Welcome edit

Kingjeff/Archives1, welcome to Wikinews! I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are a few good links for newcomers:

Our key policies - if you read anything, read these!

Here a few pointers to help you get to know Wikinews:

There are always things to do on Wikinews:

By the way, you can sign your name on Talk pages using four tildes (~~~~), which produces your name and the current date. If you have any questions, you can ask them at the water cooler or to anyone on the Welcommittee, or ask me on my Talk page. Again, welcome!--SVTCobra 00:58, 13 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Welcome Kingjeff, good to see you over at Wikinews! It's always great to see another person with such a keen interest in football grace Wikinews :) Rather than 'template' you, see here for the message. Cheers, Daniel 05:24, 11 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

You got templated anyways :) Cheers, Daniel 00:47, 13 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

UEFA edit

Yes i am aware of UEFA living in the UK but this still does not matter as our policies require multiple sources. Thanks for adding another. --MarkTalk to me 20:16, 12 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hi Kingjeff, I made some updates to your article. Initially, I made a mess of things (particularly with the Notes page). Please be aware that the use of note-subpages has been replaced with putting notes on the collaboration page. You can find more information at WN:OR. Also, please see Talk:2007 FIFA U20 World Cup: Austria, Czech Republic, Spain and US make it to quarters for more information on what I did and why. Cheers and happy editing. --SVTCobra 00:37, 13 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Oh, I take full credit for "templating" you. Hadn't read Daniel's note.--SVTCobra 00:58, 13 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Kingjeff, this article is dated July 20. You are adding sources after that date. This should not be done. If you want to write about new developments (investigation, consequences, whatever), please start a new article. Thank you. --SVTCobra 16:38, 24 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hi Kingjeff, I thought your article on Beckham was very interesting. Though it was overall well made, I noticed that you had copied two sentences (perhaps more), from the source that you cited. Please try always to reword/rearrange sentences so that they do not appear to be copied. See the Wikinews:Content guide for more on that. I have fixed those sentences, and added some background information about Beckham. Cheers. -- JayH t-wp 04:45, 5 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Beckham debut edit

I watched the LA Galaxy vs. D.C. United game in which Beckham debuted. What are your thoughts? Might make a good article. -- JayH t-wp 23:31, 10 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Champs Lge Article edit

I beat you to it. UEFA Champions League 2007/08: Group Stage Draw. Could we possibly merge the two together? Celticfan383 17:02, 30 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Yea mine's done. I sat watching it and updating it throughout. There's another one too. Celticfan383 17:05, 30 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Football Result Template edit

Please may you use Template:Footballbox for the results. Celticfan383 17:15, 30 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

I saw your article on the U-17's and it uses the wrong match result template. Celticfan383 17:19, 30 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Reports edit

Of course I can. I will be applying these to all the match reports. It's a new scheme for a new look portal! Celticfan383 10:28, 1 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Well I'll apply them to some of them. Celticfan383 18:08, 1 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

My Template?! edit

This is the official Wikipedia template. You can check for yourself.

It's very user friendly. It tells people everything at a glance.

What are your complaints?!

If you have a personal complaint I'm happy to listen to it otherwise why can't you use the new one?! Celticfan383 08:52, 4 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

re man utd v roma edit

Whoops, I didn't notice them...thanks for telling me! The lineups and statistics should be correct now - Pilchard 01:01, 3 October 2007 (UTC).Reply

Football summary? edit

Hi Kingjeff, have you ever considered publishing an entire day's worth of results as one article. The stats by themselves aren't publishable, and usually the articles don't include anything more than just the stats. But a few different games' stats all together would be very publishable. So thus, you'd have articles like "2007/08 UEFA Cup: October 4 results". -- Zanimum 16:33, 5 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

WN:SD articles recommended for speedy edit

Hi, as of this writing, all of the articles in this category marked speedy are preps for future matches. I deleted a few of them, perhaps unwisely. User:Kingjeff needs to put those to be saved in WN:SP and User:Jurock shouldn't add these to WN:SD (speedy) without consulting the author (Kingjeff in this case). Story preparation is useful and should be used for events known to happen at certain time/eventually, but they shouldn't be floating about in WN:MAIN, the mainspace. --SVTCobra 02:18, 18 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

Sorry for the inconvenient, but they should have been at WN:SP/article_name from the very start... Sorry anyway for not consulting with you. - Jurock (reply here) 20:34, 18 October 2007 (UTC)Reply
hi, i've restored 2007/08 Bundesliga: Borussia Dortmund vs. Bayern Munich and 2007/08 UEFA Champions League: Celtic vs. AC Milan as well. sorry about the hasty delete. best, –Doldrums(talk) 08:06, 19 October 2007 (UTC)Reply
I've put {{prepared}} on all of them. Although technically not the correct process for prepared stories, it gets them off the developing stories list. Happy editing. Bawolff 05:29, 21 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

All articles edit

Hi,

Your footie results article wasn't showing up on the front page because you missed the date template. I fixed that, thanks for the article. --Brian McNeil / talk 22:27, 3 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

Football portal edit

Hi, could you take a look at this user's edits Abc183 contribs, and make sure the football portal isn't being messed up. Also, the user seems to be adding content dating back to September. Cheers, --SVTCobra 00:57, 10 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Translation help needed edit

Hi, Kingjeff! Currently we are translating some articles from foreign language wikinews to German to get more input for de.wikinews. Franz started with a translation of the article Djekanovic to Whitecaps; O'Brien to Earthquakes written by you. Unfortunately, there is a small problem with the translation of the last sentence in the article. None of the users at de.wikinews seems to be able to translate this sentence. It would be very nice if you explained this sentence to us such that we could finish the corresponding article at de.wikinews. Greetings, --Angela H. - (talk) 16:30, 6 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for your help at Talk:Djekanovic to Whitecaps; O'Brien to Earthquakes. --Angela H. - (talk) 12:28, 16 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Bayern Munich v Getafe edit

Hi there! I've noticed your a Bayern fan and write alot of articles on them. I was just wondering if your planning on doing a report for their UEFA Cup match against Getafe which took place today. I'm doing a full round-up of the matches today, so if you are I'll link your match report to it. Lemme know :) thanks m8 Dark_Squall - (talk) 23:31, 3 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Match Templates edit

Yes I'm aware they are quite handy, but the setup and time it takes to do them is well..agonizing. If you feel like adding them to the roundups i write feel free, but I will only be filling out the templates on individual match reports. Thanks Dark_Squall - (talk) 03:23, 11 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Sources for articles edit

I left a similar note for Dark Squall (talk · contribs) - do you think it'd be possible from now on, on these sorts of sports articles, to use 2 or more sources instead of just one ? Cirt - (talk) 01:07, 30 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

For example, 2007/08 Bundesliga: Wolfsburg vs. Bayern Munich has only one source. Cirt - (talk) 00:56, 11 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Ah I see. In that case the match report in the template should also be listed as a source in the Sources section. (Same for other future similar articles.) Cirt - (talk) 05:16, 11 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Project Wikinews edit

I like the project, but I know for a fact that Wikipedia does not accept Wikinews as a reliable source. But I wish you luck with the project ... and if you can think of any specific instance where I can be of help, feel free to ask. Cheers, --SVTCobra 01:15, 30 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

This discussion, which includes statements from Jimbo, highlights some of these difficulties. See: I want to help. Cheers, --SVTCobra 01:40, 30 April 2008 (UTC)Reply
Suggestions

An interesting idea. A different approach which I would highly recommend for this WikiProject - would be to foster more inter-wiki participation between Wikinews/Wikipedia. For example, we could always use more contributors to Wikinews who already know their way around a wiki from another project, but just need a little experience with the Wikinews way. And also at Wikipedia, we could always use more links to relevant Wikinews articles in the External links or See also section of Wikipedia articles, using w:Template:Wikinews or another similar template like w:Template:Wikinewshas. Cirt - (talk) 05:14, 30 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

User pages edit

Hi Kingjeff, if you want User:Kingjeff/UEFA Competitions/UEFA Intertoto Cup deleted, I think it would be better to add {{delete|reason}} instead of {{abandoned}}. This way, the first admin that sees it can speedy delete it. Replace reason with "user space deletion requested by user" or even something shorter. As long as you are logged in when making such requests, they should occur rather quickly. Cheers, --SVTCobra 22:11, 14 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Russian Premier League edit

Hey, sorry for my inactivity recently, i've been a bit busy (and I have exams from Monday-Friday).

There's nothing in English but I did find this: http://www.rfpl.org/

--ńăŧħăń - ŧĕẍŧ 08:12, 18 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Sorry, in the midst of working on an article and infobox stuff. But I did notice you need to add a Sources section. Cirt (talk) 01:21, 19 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Ah, I usually do research and work on sourcing first. Cirt (talk) 01:23, 19 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Re: Contest edit

So far as I can tell it doesn't actually require it, no, but I'd advise it so that points can easily be tallied and verified. I think it was done before on the contest page, but that would make it very clutterd and overly long IMO. Blood Red Sandman (Talk) (Contribs) 19:06, 25 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Yes, I'd agree with you there. I guess we just have to use our own judgement and common sense. Blood Red Sandman (Talk) (Contribs) 09:53, 26 May 2008 (UTC)Reply
To me it's Africa, Asia and Central & South America. Oceania contains Australia, and there's often war stuff going on in the Middle East, so I wouldn't count those two. I'd keep an eye out, though, to see what others are doing. Blood Red Sandman (Talk) (Contribs) 12:04, 27 May 2008 (UTC)Reply
Looking at the talk page now, I see Cirt counts them. I guess we'll have to wait for Brian himself to clarify, it being essentially his contest. Blood Red Sandman (Talk) (Contribs) 12:06, 27 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

OR edit

Plesase remeber to add OR notes, explaining the nature of the OR to the talk page of your OR article. Anonymous101 :) 19:01, 31 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

To add OR notes just go to this talk page and explain the Original reporting. Anonymous101 :) 19:14, 31 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Also, could you say which parts of the article were original reporting in the OR notes. Anonymous101 :) 19:16, 31 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Ok so as Euro 2008 is around the corner ńăŧħăń is back to help! I'd like to cover Sweden + Poland for definite. ńăŧħăń - ŧĕẍŧ 23:46, 31 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Yah, I remember the process. I take it we're using the template I installed (used for Celtic vs Spartak Moscow). Add me to MSN: nathan@celticfan.fsnet.co.uk, thanks. ńăŧħăń - ŧĕẍŧ 00:39, 1 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

FIFA and European Union are set to collide edit

You still have to put the sources in chrono order from most recent to oldest, recent at the top. Cirt (talk) 06:36, 1 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

New categories edit

Good idea, it'll be easy to find articles if the categorised like this! ńăŧħăń - ŧĕẍŧ 19:34, 1 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

RE: UK study highlights child abuse by humanitarian workers edit

Hah, thanks. When I said I'd be willing to discuss scoring disputes, I was expecting something more likely to cost me points than gain them. Still, looks like I'm running a distant third at the moment. Chris Mann (Say hi!|Stalk me!) 03:38, 2 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Your question from 28th April 2008 edit

Hi,

and thanks for your question!

But, alas!, at the moment and - as you could probably see - for the last months I hadn´t had, and I do not have the time to work with and for the wiki-project.

Sorry, and good luck with the German buerau. regards gumboyaya —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Gumboyaya (talkcontribs)

I suppose I could fill in with regional representation in Baden-Württemberg /Stuttgart (I live nearby) and in Munich (most of my customers are there, so I partly work in the area), but not the rest of Bavaria. And some general german political news, especially when it's about German EUropean politics. I might have to be poked sometimes, though, off this site (email, IM or somesuch) --Gwyndon (talk) 00:18, 15 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

recent articles edit

Hi Kingjeff. I realize that you are taking part in the User:Brian/Contest, I hope that is not the reason that your articles are devoid of wiki-links. Quality should not be sacrificed. --SVTCobra 23:03, 4 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Norwegian Premier League edit

Hi! What kind of reports and news do you want. Got any examples for me to follow?--Kjello (talk) 00:48, 10 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Euro 2008 edit

I was gonna say that: We should do a round-up with all the match reports in one article. So Matchday 1 for all the games finishing with Greece vs Sweden (HEJA SVERIGE) and Matchday 2 starts tomorrow. :) ńăŧħăń - ŧĕẍŧ 19:56, 10 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Who's writing what (or together?). What a goal by Ibrahimovic. And, are you Russian? ńăŧħăń - ŧĕẍŧ 16:09, 11 June 2008 (UTC)Reply
So if you start writing an article about Euro 2008 Matchday 1, you cover Groups A+B and I'll cover Groups C+D. I thought you were Russian because you were looking for Russian Premier League articles. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Celticfan383 (talkcontribs)
