Welcome edit

Celticfan383, welcome to Wikinews! I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are a few good links for newcomers:

Our key policies - if you read anything, read these!

Here a few pointers to help you get to know Wikinews:

There are always things to do on Wikinews:

By the way, you can sign your name on Talk pages using four tildes (~~~~), which produces your name and the current date. If you have any questions, you can ask them at the water cooler or to anyone on the Welcommittee, or ask me on my Talk page. Again, welcome! Jacques Divol 20:53, 28 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Portal:Football edit

Thanks for doing the maintenance on the Football portal! In general, I don't see any reason why we couldn't have specific people keep track of specific teams, if they agree to do so. Your page structure makes sense, too, assuming they're maintained frequently enough. To make sure that they are I'd only create the pages being actively maintained by users (i.e. don't create a page for every team until someone expresses an interest in maintaining it). -- IlyaHaykinson 01:15, 29 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

I agree with Ilya here, go for it. --Brian McNeil / talk 07:58, 29 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

I should be able to help you with the portal when I have some free time. Come on the IRC channel sometime and I should be hanging around there. —Meekel 13:02, 29 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

To add: If you click 'Live chat' to the left of the page then you can access it there. —Meekel 13:15, 29 August 2007 (UTC)Reply
I like the banner! Eric Wester 04:27, 30 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Argh - sorry! I know how infuriating it can be :-). The article I've written is pretty short, so if you've got more to add, it would be great if you could do so (in the traditional wiki-way!). Thanks, Martinp23 02:18, 30 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Image:Portal Football Banner.png edit

Unfortunately the Nike logos are copyrighted. I believe you will have to use the items without the logos, but other than that, the image is fine. DragonFire1024 (Talk to the Dragon) 04:28, 30 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Logos are copyrighted. And unless the logos are used in an article about the team or company etc, they cannot be used on Wikinews. You can keep the image, just not with copyrighted logos. Sorry :( DragonFire1024 (Talk to the Dragon) 04:38, 30 August 2007 (UTC)Reply
No problem :) I do like it. DragonFire1024 (Talk to the Dragon) 04:46, 30 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hi, thanks for the message - the football portal banner is looking good. Most of my contributions here are over at Cricket, but I can help with some football stuff too - I've already updated the results/tables/fixtures on Portal:Football/UEFA Euro 2008. Pilchard 10:39, 30 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Football Portal edit

Portal is looking good, can you canvas for more contributors... Even if they're Rangers supporters. ;-) --Brian McNeil / talk 13:25, 30 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Champions League Draw edit

No you didn't. But if you're done yours we could use it. Kingjeff 17:04, 30 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Yea mine's done. I sat watching it and updating it throughout. There's another one too. Celticfan383 17:05, 30 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

To add, I personally feel it would be good to keep the tables I created. Feel free to add information on who won awards etc. from last years competition. Use the live chat to discuss further if you want. I'm on there now. —Meekel 17:07, 30 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

I think we should use my title since I think it's more accurate to say it's a reseult instead of an announcement. We could use one as a redirect. Kingjeff 17:08, 30 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

I don't mind, I just wanted to point out that there was 3 versions. Merge them all into one. But I think we should use my title because it's not a result really just Group Stage Draw sums it up. Celticfan383 17:09, 30 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Yes. But I don't understand why you put that template onto my talk page. I was refering to the draw results. Not actual match results. Kingjeff 17:17, 30 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

I'll use the template for next time. I only used this one because it was already there. Kingjeff 17:25, 30 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Football ticker edit

I've been thinking about it, and a football ticker would really liven up the page. If you are keen, i'll implement one. TheFearow 22:47, 30 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

I made it - what do you think? TheFearow 01:05, 31 August 2007 (UTC)Reply
It'll show the stuff from Portal:Football/Tickersource, which are the last 10 stories and match reports. TheFearow 21:58, 31 August 2007 (UTC)Reply
Yep. I'm working on implementing a heap of these for different pages. TheFearow 10:23, 1 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

My match reports edit

Can you change the 11 other match reports like you did to the last one? Kingjeff 00:40, 1 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

I was being sarcastic. The problem is the difference in templates aren't worthy of just overturning every single match report that has been written. Kingjeff 15:00, 1 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

I don't think we need to change the old match reports. That template isn't bad enough to go around changing them. As long as people can use the one we want in the future then it should be fine. Kingjeff 22:21, 1 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Organisation edit

Yes, that was my take on it too, lol. And whoever changed thought he was fixing typos! (he actually did that as well, but like my edit summary said, I'd rather someone slightly more compatent went looking for them). Blood Red Sandman (Talk) (Contribs) 11:42, 1 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Per that, I've redone the rest. If you have missed something, someone will pick it up fairly quickly. Blood Red Sandman (Talk) (Contribs) 11:48, 1 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

World News Quiz edit

I've edited the quiz you prepared, could you have a look? Wikinews:World News Quiz/September 2, let me know what you think. I've removed some stories because for example the Congo story was last week (unfortunately it was our only story from Africa), and some because I thought there were stories that fit the category "world news" better. I think 1 sports story is the maximum, so I left in that question. --Steven Fruitsmaak (Reply) 18:58, 1 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Your new template edit

I don't like your new template. It's not user friendly like the old one. Kingjeff 19:37, 2 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Well, I just find it more difficult to use and there are other flaws in the template. You're better off making a lineup template and use the goal and the subs things like that. 65.92.148.227 20:22, 4 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Template:English Football Categories edit

Hello Celticfan383. Shouldn't this template have more categories in it? Jcart1534 17:40, 8 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Yes. I am in the process of thinking what to do with it. I am going to apply it to the Portal:Football new page thing when it has relevent categories. You are free to add some to it. Celticfan383 08:25, 9 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Category:Archived football articles edit

I put it on WN:DR as it seemed kind of pointless to me. Please comment. Bawolff 03:05, 16 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Please add original reporting notes to the talk page of the article or the tag will be removed. Thanks. FellowWiki Newsie 18:09, 9 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

The notes are acceptable. But you cannot write the article against our NPOV policy. FellowWiki Newsie 16:53, 10 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hi, can go here to sign-up for a team of your choice. This is more for organization more then anything. If the league you want isn't there, just add it to the bottum. Kingjeff (talk) 23:36, 31 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Essentially, the title is "Euro 2008: [Insert Team 1] vs. [Insert Team 2]". Categories are the host country (Which one it's in) along with the 2 countiries competing. Kingjeff (talk) 23:54, 31 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

I have started a host of categories for the 2008 summer seasons and 2008-09 winter seasons

I also forgot to mention that I'm using the defaultsort for the above categories. Kingjeff (talk) 20:22, 1 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

EURO 2008 edit

There hasn't been any match reports so far for Euro 2008. Maybe we can do a Matchday 1 - 4 for the first set of matches for all the groups? Kingjeff (talk) 19:36, 10 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Source edit

Could you provide a source for the images of football players in the image you uploaded. Are they under a free license? Anonymous101 (talk) 16:29, 18 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Image:Portal Football Banner.png edit

This image, incorporating various different football players, is clearly made up of a number of different photographs. What is the source of each of these images? Thanks. Adambro (talk) 20:48, 21 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Sources: Pictures of Ballack, Anelka + Larsson given to me by my friend, Dan, a sports photographer. Schweinsteiger released into the public domain on player-art as a render. ńăŧħăń - ŧĕẍŧ 01:46, 22 June 2008 (UTC)Reply
Firstly, since I have your talk page on my watchlist you can reply here and I've moved your comment back here to keep this discussion in one place. After quickly looking further into this I remain concerned about the image of Schweinsteiger which appears to be from here. I see no statement releasing this into the public domain, is this stated elsewhere? Also, if you could provide the full name of your photographer friend Dan it would be helpful so that it could be confirmed that he has agreed to release the images under an appropriate license. Thanks. Adambro (talk) 08:52, 22 June 2008 (UTC)Reply
The original Larsson picture appears to be this photo, whose metadata indicates that it was taken by one Manu Fernandez of AP. --+Deprifry+ 10:27, 22 June 2008 (UTC)Reply
The mystery deepens; the photo of Ballack appears here where it is credited to Guido Manuilo/EPA. A quick Google search failed to turn up the image of Anelka. Adambro (talk) 10:43, 22 June 2008 (UTC)Reply
I will remove the banner as I have been told by my friend that they were not his pictures and he accidently mislead me. Could you then suggest what the heck you're meant to put on this banner instead then? ńăŧħăń - ŧĕẍŧ 11:57, 22 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Match Reports edit

Until we get enough editors, I think we might want to put the teams we signed up for into one article until we get enough editors to help write for several matches for a single league. Kingjeff (talk) 21:42, 22 June 2008 (UTC)Reply
