California WikiBureau

edit

Hello Bastique!
Are you from California? You should join the newly revived WikiBureau California! What is the Bureau for? It is there to help bring editors together to work together on writing similar articles. I hope you'll stop by, take a look around, and hopefully sign up (It costs nothing, just put your name down on the page). Thanks! will all articles need the date in the title now? 72.87.59.221 02:02, 23 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

See my edit summaries on the move. If we want to have articles spidered on Google news, yes, or we have to find another way. I'm just proposing this temporarily... Cary Bass (talk) 02:04, 23 September 2008 (UTC)Reply
No...this is just a test. DragonFire1024 (Talk to the Dragon) 02:04, 23 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Re: Decline of image deletion request: new section

edit

Hi Bastique! I wonder if you would be kind enough to explain the reason for declining my image deletion request of the G8 logo for Gleneagles 2005 please? After reviewing the templates on the page, i concluded that as it still hadn't got a fair usage rationale, despite one being requested, it was, as per the 3rd template down, eligible for speedy deletion. This is the text I based that assumption on:

"This non-free image is claimed to be used under fair use but has no explanation on why it is permitted under our fair use policy. Non-free images are not permitted on Wikimedia Foundation projects without fair use rationales. Please supply a detailed rationale for each use of this image in all of the articles that it is used in, and remove this template when that has been done. Images without valid rationales are eligible for speedy deletion."

Could you please explain the correct procedure (which I thought I had followed)? I would appreciate it! Cheers! Iceflow (talk) 01:01, 7 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for archiving

edit

Thanks for tackling the the archiving backlog. However, I wouldn't have let a sentence that started "On the opposite way of two weekends" go by. What does that even mean? (from 2007 Taipei IT Month exposed problems on traffic jams). Even the title is bad English. Cheers, --SVTCobra 03:04, 22 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

The issue is that it was already published that way. Please feel free to correct it! Cary Bass (talk) 03:05, 22 November 2008 (UTC)Reply
OK, but then we might as well let a bot do the archiving, which incidentally has been suggested numerous times and always rejected. Have you talked to Brianmc about this? He pretty much wrote WN:ARCHIVE. Cheers,--SVTCobra 03:17, 22 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

Thousands protest PM Harper in Toronto

Wow, that's quite interesting, that a former CBCer is now a contributor to Wikinews. Did you get in contact with her thru Sue, or did she email it to OTRS? Quite curious about this good news. -- Zanimum (talk) 18:21, 9 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

I met her at a conference Networked Politics recently and talked Wikinews up. I wanted to show her how we are doing with citizen journalism. Let's hope that she (or her compatriots) decide to continue to use us! (We had a lot of hits with this article, incidentally :) ) Cary Bass (talk) 04:19, 10 December 2008 (UTC)Reply
Very cool. It would be good if word spread among the journo community. -- Zanimum (talk) 17:05, 10 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

Paranoia on safety vis-a-vis dire attempts on Obama

edit
Thanks, Sir. I deeply understand that too many sources do have review disadvantages for the Wiki peer reviewer. But, I just want to be sure, that, a particular important fact or detail has back up. This article is not a legal but motoring news article and is highly technical. In the past, when I had created articles on disasters and accidents, I could'nt find just 2 or 3 articles which contain all critical facts. So, I had to have tons of sources. Further, in one or 2 difficult articles I wrote, an editor marked these as Failed and I asked for another review after putting updated back-ups. Talk:Cadillac unveils Obama's 'Beast', the 2009 Presidential State Car
So, sir, this is the marked difference between my Wiki created news articles and ordinary news reports we find in Google or BBC: my created article is SYNTHESIS of almost all past and updated reports, such that the reader will find all chunks like in a delicious hamburger. I know that Wiki editors might have some fear seeing tons of sources, but it is good for reliability. The reader must be safe with sure sources. And thanks for the comment; please feel free to delete, revise, modify etc. this, due to our COLLABORATION, I just being the CREATOR. A final WARNING though: PARANOIA - this truck car which is ASTEROID free, is built due to DIRE PROPHECIES about OBAMA's not finishing his term. Remember 2 articles in Wikipedia about 2 assassination attempts on Obama plus many DIRE omen. So, I want this article to be PARANOID too like in the car with sure sources. Just sayin. This car is eerie.--Florentino Floro (talk) 06:38, 17 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

A penny for your thoughts

edit

Okay, not really, but I am requesting your participation in the following Water Cooler Discussion: OR and Broadcast report. The discussion involves the need for specific policy concerning how Original Reporting relates to information recieved from a broadcast report of an event. This can include both news-style reports and non-news reports, such as a sporting event. Thanks and again, please share your thoughts on this so we can get as many people involved as possible, especially since this relates to an important topic such as OR. —Calebrw (talk) 05:10, 27 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

Question for a Wikinews Administrator

edit

Dear Bastique: I know that you're an admin on WP, so I figure you can route this correctly to someone at WMF. If you look carefully at this site, I believe they are using the Wikinews mark next to the words "Special Report." Even though I know it's ad-spam, and came up on my machine quite unexpectedly, if I were Wikinews, I'd want to know about this because unauthorize use of the mark could dilute it. Best regards, Saebvn. Please, if additional information is needed, contact me at my WP:EN talk page, user name "Saebvn." Thanks. Saebvn (talk) 19:13, 20 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

Busy elsewhere? We understand, but this is a notice of privilege expiry!

Note! Your privileges on English Wikinews have been reduced.

Under the Privilege expiry policy (enacted October 13, 2012) the rights held by your user account have been reduced due to inactivity, or lack of privilege use. You can view your user rights log here.
Point 4 of the Privilege expiry policy provides for fast-tracking reacquisition of privileges. We all understand that real-life commitments can severely curtail the level of commitment you can give to Wikinews; the privilege reduction is in no way intended as a reflection on your past work, or to imply you are unwelcome. The aim in curtailing privileges is to address security risks, and concern that a long period of inactivity means you may not be up-to-date with current policy and practices.

Being bothered by User:Pi zero

edit

He is bothering me with rubbish each edit. He is never contributing. He deletes articles comments sites here, although the article is existing. Articles under development are clean up articles. I might not write about RB Leipzig. My started articles have interest and he says that other archived articles are which from amateur clubs, university clubs or something else. He wants to rename my name here and is not rename me. My articles are written after the style such as about other proven football match reports. He is psychic unable to name reasons. Please remove him from the board! He neither productive nor socially competent or educated, for a globally representative on public free sites. --Nikebrand (talk) 21:40, 6 October 2014 (UTC)Reply
