Welcome to Wikinews

A nice cup of coffee for you while you get started

Getting started as a contributor
How to write an article
  1. Pick something current?
  2. Use two independent sources?
  3. Read your sources before writing the story in your own words?. Do choose a unique title? before you start.
  4. Follow Wikinews' structure? for articles, answering as many of who what when where why and how? as you can; summarised in a short, two- or three-sentence opening paragraph. Once complete, your article must be three or more paragraphs.
  5. If you need help, you can add {{helpme}} to your talkpage, along with a question, or alternatively, just ask?

  • Use this tab to enter your title and get a basic article template.
[RECOMMENDED. Starts your article through the semi-automated {{develop}}—>{{review}}—>{{publish}} collaboration process.]

Welcome! Thank you for joining Wikinews; we'd love for you to stick around and get more involved. To help you get started we have an essay that will guide you through the process of writing your first full article. There are many other things you can do on the project, but its lifeblood is new, current, stories written neutrally.
As you get more involved, you will need to look into key project policies and other discussions you can participate in; so, keep this message on this page and refer to the other links in it when you want to learn more, or have any problems.

All Wikimedia projects have rules. Here are ours.

Listed here are the official policies of the project, you may be referred to some of them if your early attempts at writing articles don't follow them. Don't let this discourage you, we all had to start somewhere.

The rules and guides laid out here are intended to keep content to high standards and meet certain rules the Wikimedia Foundation applies to all projects. It may seem like a lot to read, but you do not have to go through it all in one sitting, or know them all before you can start contributing.

Remember, you should enjoy contributing to the project. If you're really stuck come chat with the regulars. There's usually someone in chat who will be happy to help, but they may not respond instantly.

The core policies
Places to go, people to meet

Wiki projects work because a sense of community forms around the project. Although writing news is far more individualistic than contributing to Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia, people often need minor help with things like spelling and copyediting. If a story isn't too old you might be able to expand it, or if it is disputed you may be able to find some more sources and rescue it before it is listed for deletion.

There are always discussions going on about how the site could be improved, and your input is of value. Check the links here to see where you can give input to the running of the Wikinews project.

Should this user be unblocked?
Should this user be unblocked?

unblock ip please i made a mistake... apoligies. has reviewed Tribuneman2018's request to be unblocked, and the result was declined.
The reason given by unblock ip please i made a mistake... apoligies. was: {{{2}}}.
Further debate can proceed here, however, the administrator's decision may be final, and the result of administrative consensus.

If I may comment, saying "I have right to advertise" -- that is, by itself wrong, the username suggests they are here just for the sake of advertisement, which we do not permit, and if the user really wants to be unblocked, that is, if they are here for some serious contribution, first get the account renamed so that it does not appear a role account.

I think this unblock request already expired. I'm formally declining it to remove it from the queue of unblock requests. If this is a mistake, please re-open it and leave me a message. Gryllida (talk) 00:41, 2 July 2018 (UTC)Reply

Go for global rename, you aren't blocked globally.

Please consider unblocking edit

Account creation from this IP address (74.124.128.224) has been blocked by Pi zero.

The reason given by Pi zero is Autoblocked because your IP address has been recently used by "Tribuneman2018". The reason given for Tribuneman2018's block is "advertising/spam (also WN:ROLE)"

Should this user be unblocked?

SVTCobra has reviewed Tribuneman2018's request to be unblocked, and the result was approved. The reason given by SVTCobra was: Unblocking I.P. so user can create new user name. This name remains blocked..
You should now be able to edit pages as normal.

Request global rename here
•–• 23:05, 22 May 2018 (UTC)Reply

Tribuneman2018, I am reviewing your request to be unblocked, or rather have the block changed so the underlying IP address is not blocked, allowing you to create a new username in accordance with WN:U and WN:ROLE. You were seen to be promoting Wikitribune in a somewhat spammy way, but one that also indicated that you feel Wikitribune is a superior news outlet to Wikinews. Given this sentiment, one can wonder why you want to contribute to Wikinews. So, I will ask you, what could we expect your contributions to be when you promise to act "in a fair way"? Cheers, --SVTCobra 14:05, 23 May 2018 (UTC)Reply

A fair way edit

Never to advertise WikiTribune again. Contribute to WikiNews only. Never to spam or advertise anything. Sorry again SVTCobra PiZero Aga and others of wikinews sorry apoligies. Tribuneman2018 (talk) 17:53, 23 May 2018 (UTC)Reply

Well, that goes almost without saying, because spamming or advertising would result in another block that would likely remain in force permanently. Can you elaborate, however, on what you are interested in doing here? Writing synthesis articles? Copy-editing? Something else? --SVTCobra 18:04, 23 May 2018 (UTC)Reply
Creating news articles, and i would like to start asap please. Tribuneman2018 (talk) 18:06, 23 May 2018 (UTC)Reply
Do you realise you cannot use Wikitribune as a source? Especially not their synthesis and opinion articles. They are in a pilot stage and have yet to demonstrate their editorial control. Are you an active contributor on Wikitribune? And if so, do you see a conflict of interest? --SVTCobra 18:31, 23 May 2018 (UTC)Reply
I will not use wikitribune sources. --Tribuneman2018 (talk) 20:11, 23 May 2018 (UTC)Reply
I have lifted the restrictions. You should now be able to create a new account with a new user name. If you would be so kind, please disclose your new user name here, or mention Tribuneman2018 on your new account. Cheers and happy editing. --SVTCobra 20:22, 23 May 2018 (UTC)Reply
SVTCobra I want to thank you so much for understanding. I will prove to you all that I can contribute to wikinews correctly. Sincerly. Tribuneman2018 (talk) 20:25, 23 May 2018 (UTC)Reply

Gollum55 will be my new user name if its ok with you? Tribuneman2018 (talk) 20:28, 23 May 2018 (UTC)Reply

If it's available, it seems fine. --SVTCobra 20:29, 23 May 2018 (UTC)Reply
Thank you, will try now. Tribuneman2018 (talk) 20:31, 23 May 2018 (UTC)Reply
