- The Wikinewsie Group News
There is less to report, as the group spent time focusing on behind-the-scenes aspects of obtaining thematic organization recognition.
- Aff-Comm application status updates
- The Wikinewsie Group answered several questions from the Affiliations Committee at Talk:The Wikinewsie Group/Bylaws.
- Education and GLAM
- Members are working to create educational materials to use at training workshops in English and Spanish. Current print training materials include a one page guide to original sport reporting on English English Wikinews, a one page guide to conducting multilingual interviews, a guide to getting photo essays published and a guide to writing for English Wikinews.
- The University of Wollongong class participation on English Wikinews wound up as the semester ended, and a new class has started with the new semester. The instructor has created a presentation about the class on Wikinews that can be found at StudentsInWikinews.
- A member of The Wikinewsie Group met with a GLAM partner about the value of English Wikinews and Wikinoticias for freely sharing knowledge about culture.
- Technical updates
- Pi zero has moved to a new phase in the development of an improved reviewing tool for English Wikinews.
- Gryllida is working on the development of a tool to make translating material from one project to another easier. The new beta wmtrans translation tool here, which you can use to translate Wikipedia and Wikinews articles from one language to another. Its difference from the Meta translation tools is include the the ability to translate an article as a whole, per-paragraph, and add new paragraphs if desired; a dictionary box for you to look up geographical names without loading entire Wikipedia pages; and whole-page translation philosophy instead of translating by parts. The tool also features a multilingual interface; you can add new sections to data.ini to add your own. You are encouraged to send them, and bug reports, to Gryllida.
- Discussions have been going on behind the scenes about the potential for The Wikinewsie Group to support the technical aspects for Wikinews project development following suggestions on Wikimedia-l that this would be a place chapters could demonstrate leadership potential and work with the Foundation. There are currently a number of developers active in the Wikinews community.
- Research
- Given feedback by a member of the Wikimedia Foundation Board (Samuel Klien) that the English language project should consider content import from other free news sources as a way of increasing community participation, content output and traffic, research was done inside the community using another language project as a baseline to determine the potential impact in terms of achieving those goals. A copy of this research can be found at Research:Wikinews Content Import Analysis. In a nutshell, the findings are: content import did not result in increased community output or increased community size. Content import also resulted in fewer page views per published article. Content import was not successful at achieving a positive community or traffic related impact.
- A tiny piece of research done examining relative article popularity by year on English Wikinews can found at Article rank and article date. More in-depth research along these lines may produce interesting results.
- Across the languages
- Over on Italian Wikinews on July 25, they hit 30,000 total pages.
- English Wikinews completed elections for their Arbitration Committee. Brian McNeil, Pi zero, Mikemoral, LauraHale, RockerballAustralia, and William S. Saturn were elected to the one year position.
- Content work
- Laura Hale wrote a report : A report on the coverage of Spanish athletes at the 2013 IPC Athletic World Championship. The chance to interview athletes came about because of successfully covering the IPC Alpine Skiing World Championship earlier in the year.
- Brian McNeil — currently at the Edinburgh Fringe — is sharing a variety of video clips via English Wikinews' Facebook page. Copyright restrictions prevent most of these media files being uploaded to Commons; fair-use on Wikinews itself requires legal advice beforehand.
- Clips:
- Georgina Gordon at The Pear Tree
- Georgina Gordon at The Pear Tree
- Roy Henderson at The Pear Tree
- Roy Henderson at The Pear Tree
- Australian street artist, playing with fire, in Edinburgh's Grassmarket (Could go on Commons — if not for the fact that the 720p theora version of the clip exceeds the upload limit by 50%).
- Other news
- Two members of the The Wikinewsie Group provisional board attend the IRC meeting on July 26 for the Program Evaluation and Design as the board begins to think about and conducts its own evaluation of efforts to increase content and increase community participation. They observed the August 1 metrics meeting.

Review tool issues
Hi Pi zero, I saw your comment at https://en.wikinews.org/wiki/Wikinews:Water_cooler#HTTPS_for_users_with_an_account about the "review tool not creating the talk page" but could not find an Edit link there on the Water cooler page itself, hence commenting here. Are there steps to reproduce that I could follow, and what exactly is the "review tool" in this context? Thanks in advance, AKlapper (WMF) (talk) 21:02, 21 August 2013 (UTC)
Pi, HELLO! Email me all about WikiNews!
Pi, email me all about WikiNews, I am a creative writer (fashion journalist) from India, previously Mumbai and now in Calcutta, covered/attended Wikimania HK and interviewed the sweet Sue and Jimmy. I am completely technologically challenged, as most of the top fashion editors of India are/choose to be. Do let me know how to contribute in creative (non-technical) way in WikiNews. Also, the fashion articles about India, wow! Look at them, I wish we could both work on it and make them readable for the fashion fraternity! I see your immense contribution in WikiNews, congratulations for the same. Cheers from India (a creative Hello) from Sou Boyy :)
Re: my privs reduced
Wasn't sure what you meant at my talk page when you said my privileges were reduced, I had self-revoked my administrator privileges and blocked all my bot accounts a few months before you posted that message.. just curious if you could give some specifics. (→Zachary) 07:17, 25 August 2013 (UTC)
Is there an Wizard for Contributing Articles?
Pi, Great to hear from you. Is there an Wizard for Contributing Articles, I mean an easier process for non-technical creative people, especially little bit of Indian creative standards. Because the words used and the techniques are fit for IT guys from anywhere (especially very westernized, non Indian-friendly), and even a senior editor of the most-widely read English daily which is based in India, will find it difficult to publish an article here. And if you wish, do edit the stories published/written by me/us. I sincerely wish, that the Indian fashion fraternity, the likes of fashion editors, photographers, fashion bloggers, models, fashion designers, and the likes starts reading readable Indian fashion articles in wikipedia too. The Indian fashion articles need a lot of editing, especially because I guess the process to upload the articles are "too technical" for any conventional Indian writer/journalist. I am still giving my best to improve the quality of Indian fashion articles, since you are a veteran/expert, and technologically advanced, we should do it together. Thanks. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Sou Boyy (talk • contribs) 13:01, 25 August 2013
- We've been working for several years now to create an interactive article wizard, but is requires us to develop a bunch of software, and we're not there yet.
- There is a non-interactive "article wizard" we created a while back. You could take a look at that, and there are some other pages you could try.
- There are some technical aspects to writing news, that probably can't be avoided (and Wikinewsies tend to be people who are okay with that); but we can try to help you. --Pi zero (talk) 13:16, 25 August 2013 (UTC)
Pi, if you edit an article of a fashion writer, like a true Fashion Editor, there will be a lot more contribution, but if you delete and force an Indian writer to obey you and write in western way, you will have such fashion contents on indian fashion, which will be unreadable! And fashion writing is never news, fashion news are features write-ups, any journalist, fashion editor (not news/technical editor) or a fashion writer should know this, a fashion news does not follow inverted pyramid. You can read Vogue, Elle, Grazia, Cosmo and learn it for yourself. The need for the day, is simple way what wordpress or blogger uses for Indian writers on wikipedia, and then you should have more participation and more Indian fashion readers. Either, you can change the way and make it more user-friendly, or you will shun away many good writers who are Indian and not so comfortable/interested in becoming technologically advanced. And probably, you can speak to Indian Wikipedians and see for yourself that in a country, where electricity is not there in many parts, expecting "technical aspects" is too much. And "Wikinewsies tend to be people who are okay with that", I guess you mean people who are using computers for over 20 years in their nation. India is using computers for hardly past 5 years in houses, so you got to make it more Indian-user friendly for Indian Wiki writers and readers. Many Thanks.
Barnstar for Pi!
Pi, I wish to award you with a You deserve it for your contributions.
My very best, Sourendra.Das@gmail.com

Please do not bite the newcomers says Jimbo Wales. Wikipedia and WikiNews Needs to Expand. Thanks :)
Wikipedia articles are improved through the hard work of regular editors, but also through numerous contributions made by newcomers. Remember: all of us were new editors at Wikipedia once, and in some ways (such as when editing an article on a topic outside our usual scope) even the most experienced among us are still newcomers.
New members are prospective contributors and are therefore Wikipedia's most valuable resource. We must treat newcomers with kindness and patience—nothing scares potentially valuable contributors away faster than hostility. It is very unlikely for a newcomer to be completely familiar with all of the policies, guidelines, and community standards of Wikipedia when they start editing. Even the most experienced editors may need a gentle reminder from time to time. Thanks. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Sou Boyy (talk • contribs) 17:50, 25 August 2013
A Good Editor edits and publishes not put tags! Thanks.
Dear Pi (may I call you that?), A Good Editor should edit and publish and not just put tags. If you ever work in a newspaper, any Editor who sends back a copy to the writer will be considered a horrible/terrible editor. Next time, do remove water-mark or any other changes yourself. All my edits, I have taken responsibility in making changes, never put tags in other people's write-ups. And for a professional journalist, it takes a lot of time to do Wiki writing. Appreciate that. I congratulate that you have done lots of work in Wiki, all I wish is that "DO EDIT", simply do not put tags and vanish. Let's work it out together and improve the quality of the Indian fashion articles in Wiki, make them more readable. Thanks. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Sou Boyy (talk • contribs) 17:51, 25 August 2013
- We are different from a traditional newspaper, necessarily because we are a wiki. We are different from a Wikipedia-style wiki, necessarily because we are a news site.
- Our review process is not like editing at a traditional newspaper. No-one here is allowed to self-publish; in order to publish an article, the reviewer must remain independent of the article, which basically means they mustn't have made such extensive changes that they become a coauthor. Occasionally a reviewer chooses to make big improvements to an article even though it disqualifies them from review; but this can only produce a published article if some other reviewer then comes along and puts in the effort to review the resulting article, which can be problematic if (as is often the case) we have a very limited pool of available reviewers at the time. --Pi zero (talk) 18:10, 25 August 2013 (UTC)

I missed to reply and thank you for your work in the review of my article. I think that the best tip you said is to put little html comments in the source indicating which source each bit of information came from. May be I saw one or two articles that uses this technique, but without understanding the motivation. Be sure that the next time I will write an article sources comments will be included. Thank you again! Ciao --Trek00 (talk) 20:59, 28 August 2013 (UTC)

Something came to mind
re: article assistant tools. I always seem to be reaching for new ways to format my articles. I seem to end up with 1 photo at top left and then my little 3 paragraphs. I like the fact that we've seen more photo essays here (and other variants). You know how there's that little widget for reviewers, whenever we ready an article??? .......to set the number of sentences in the teaser that appears on Mains...? I like that. I wish we had a button (buttons?) that would show various templates for how our finished article might be formatted. That would be super cool! --Bddpaux (talk) 18:29, 9 September 2013 (UTC)
- Interesting thought. I'll try to keep that in mind, when attempting to assemble an interactive article wizard. --Pi zero (talk) 04:21, 11 September 2013 (UTC)
Table
With the above comment in mind, I did the table as an attempt to "spice up" my usual predictable format. I did, however, feel like I was stretching credulity just bit, though....seeing as how I only listed about 4% of all the attractions in Texas for this year! I wonder, though: how might such a table be kosher for an article (any old article, really......just wondering). --Bddpaux (talk) 14:20, 12 September 2013 (UTC)
Vaterite
Today's word is,... Vaterite.
If you could possibly scan the vaterite article for understandability with a possible publish tomorrow that'd be appreciated. Blood Red Sandman (Talk) (Contribs) 18:34, 12 September 2013 (UTC)
- On first reading it seemed pretty much okay, though I'd a feeling there might have been some subtle point that sat oddly. I'll read it again in a while. --Pi zero (talk) 21:55, 12 September 2013 (UTC)
Inter-wiki linking
don't use w: for wikilinks, use {{w}} instead ; + wikilinks I was having trouble with this. Sometimes it was linking to Wikipedia, and sometimes to Wikinews. I had a particular problem with the link to the 2004 Summer Paralympics, which was linking to a non-existent Wikinews page instead of going to Wikipedia, although it seems okay now.
- Taking a wild guess, based partly on the sorts of mistakes I make with {{w}} myself, maybe you used square brackets instead of curly braces? [[w|Australia]] would produce Australia, a link to non-existent Wikinews page w. Template {{w}} wouldn't produce a link to a non-existent local page; it explicitly checks for a local target, and if the local target doesn't exist it links to Wikipedia (or wherever) instead. --Pi zero (talk) 02:11, 20 September 2013 (UTC)

- There has been some talk[3] about reviving the Sister Projects Committee. Wikinewsies are encouraged to become involved.
- Research
- Wikinews original reporting value as a measure of news events was published. This is the first in a series of research pieces looking at the cost of original reporting done by Wikinews journalists.
- The second piece of research about Wikinews reporting was published, Itemizing the cost of Wikinews reporting. It was not published on the research namespace on meta because it has little application for chapters and thematic organizations as a whole, except possibly in trying to determine how to evaluate budgets submitted by Wikinews reporters for the purposes of grant making.
- Education
- On English Wikinews, supporters of The Wikinewsie Group requested the installation of the Education Program extension. This will facilitate having university courses participate on the project and make it easier for TWG to work with other groups like the Wiki Education Foundation.[4][5] The extension was installed and as an example and way to engage new contributors,a course for new reporters was created. Feedback on the course or anyone interested in running a high school or university course on Wikinews is encouraged to get in touch with The Wikinewsie Group.
- Original reporting
- Media accreditation has been attained for the 2014 Winter Paralympics. Planning is underway to insure the success of the original reporting event[6] and build on the success of the 2012 Summer Paralympics.[7] Success at the 2014 Winter Paralympics will go a long way towards helping The Wikinewsie Group secure accreditation for the 2016 Summer Olympics. If any individuals, chapters or thematic organizations are interested in assisting us with this and integrating it into existing outreach efforts to people with disabilities, please get in touch Laura Hale.
- Outreach
- A discussion took place on IRC about how Wikinews's definitions of journalism are very much tied into the workflow for Wikinews. [8] Thus, for many Wikinewsies, it is difficult to discuss the concept of what journalism is in a project context without it being seen as a fundamental discussion on project workflow. When people come in from the outside and offer advice, they are often seen as fundamentally criticizing the project's workflow without having any conceptualization they are doing that while fundamentally acting in good faith. In working with outsiders who are offering assistance, there needs to be a better method of articulating that the two, definition or journalism and Wikinews workflow, are one and the same. This could theoretically assist in less hostility, and enabling greater shared understanding that will allow participants to talk with each other instead of past each other.
- Wikimetrics may be useful for assisting people in measuring education program impact, GLAM related programming and other outreach endeavors. For projects with flagged revisions or where articles are deleted/userified if they do not get published, the only really useable current available metric is pages created. Any analysis using this tool should wait until all content has been delete/userified because of too many false positives that suggest content was published when it was not. Additional information can be found at Programs:Resources.
- Several language Wikinews projects which tweet out links other than to their news archives have started tagging their articles with the local language word for Wikinews. This makes it easier to find their reporting content, and for others to retweet their content. The Wikinewsie Group Twitter account made this request to better promote the work being done by local projects.
- Technical
- Wikinewsie.org e-mail is being cleaned up. All e-mail boxes which are 100% full have been deleted. Users who have set their accounts to forward to "untrustworthy" sites have been cautioned against doing so or those rules have been modified and reset with random values by the server administrator for them. People are reminded they should not be forwarding their e-mails to Google or Yahoo accounts. A strong possibility exists that this implementation may have been overly zealous so if a user is experiencing difficulties, please get in touch.[9]
- Three potential technical projects for Wikinews were listed on the possible projects for mentorship programs on Mediawiki. They include a request for a mobile reporting tool, a mobile Wikinews application, and a machine assisted translation tool. [10]
- Server upgrades and fixes continue for the Wikinewsie server. Details available here.
- The wmtran tool has a new interface translation, to German, thanks to Huon.
- For reporters
- Reporters are encouraged to get an orcid, which can be displayed on their userpage. (Example) This could be useful in improving chances of getting grants, getting recognition for your reporting and promoting your work.
- The Wikinewsie Group is looking for New York City based Wikimedia contributors who would be interested in getting published on Wikinews with the goal of getting media accreditation to the United Nations.[11] Please get in touch with Laura Hale or pi zero if you would like more information.
All original reporting done across Wikinews between September 1 and October 1, 2013. If this list is incomplete, please report that to Gryllida. Thank you to all Wikinews reporters and translators who have done original reporting. Please continue your good work.

That's one of those puzzlers — namely, this being a 'transcontinental country'. It may-well be the case that (back in the dim and distant past) we had these 'edge cases' (pun intended) listed under two continents. It's hardly a critical point to address; but, what are your thoughts on handling the few countries that do span more than one continent? --Brian McNeil / talk 11:12, 16 October 2013 (UTC)
- I always figured if a country spans more than one continent, it should belong to both (well, all if there were a three-continent case). The two currently implemented cases I know of are Turkey in both Europe and Asia, and Egypt in both Africa and the Middle East. I'm aware that some people would put both of those in the Middle East, and in fact the map we use for the Middle East does so (an annoyance; we should have a map that accurately shows what we do). Other cases:
- Afghanistan articles were, when I first checked, pretty much uniformly randomly distributed into Asia, or Middle East, or both. I attribute this largely to Amerikans who don't know geography (except perhaps that Mexico and Canada are on the border of the US, which does suggest a neat solution to the problem of Mexican immigrants: just let them go directly from Mexico to Canada without passing through the US). Anyway, I've been slowly migrating those articles out of Middle East (unless they also involve a Middle Eastern country) and into Asia.
- Russia really needs to be added to Asia; it's now only in Europe, which is right iirc for Russia proper but not for the Russian Federation, which is what our category covers. I haven't done it yet because it's such a dauntingly large task.
- East Timor is near Oceania. I suspect it does belong in Asia. But Oceania, like the Middle East, seems a touch subjective. Indonesia is in Asia, Papua New Guinea is in Oceania. A bunch of ASEAN countries are in Oceania. I see no particular harm in leaving East Timor out of the Oceania category but listing the Oceania countries on its portal.

- Project news
- The Wikinewsie Group/Local Wikinews policies is the start of a guide that explains local Wikinews project policies with the goal of making it easier to recognise credentials across project, build on accumulated reputation from one project to another and facilitate translation work.
- Historical Czech Wikinews experiment is a blog entry by Okino that looks at the community impact of allowing writers to write Wikinews articles from a past perspective, IE writing a story about a historical battle as if you were a journalist writing that article the day after it happened. The purpose was to attempt to make Wikinews more collaborative in nature and avoid the time constraints of the immediacy of news reporting. Okino shows that while the reaction to the idea was positive, the true interest in writing the articles of this type was small as the vast majority of them were written by him.
- A conversation is taking place on Wikinoticias about allowing CC-BY-NC images to be locally uploaded.[12]
- A conversation is taking place on English Wikinews with a WMF staff member about the future of search and potential special search features for Wikinews projects.[13]
- Training materials
- A one page guide and a screencast were created that explain how to avoid plagiarism on Wikinews. Available data suggests this is somewhat of an issue for new and student reporters on English Wikinews, with roughly 10 to 20% of all submitted articles having some sort of copyright issue.
- Training materials were created to better support new reporters wanting to produce photo essays. They can be found at Photo Essays for Wikinews, Photojournalist worksheet, and Wikinews Photo Essay Formatting. Assistance is requested in translating these to other languages and localizing them to local project requirements. This would be very helpful ahead of the Sochi Paralympic Games, where there are expected to be a number of photo essays produced.
- Given the difficulty of new reporters being unable to get their first article published on Wikinews, a video was created to encourage these writers to stick with it. It can be found at The first time writing for Wikinews good.ogv. It is somewhat tongue in cheek, and tries to address the emotional implications of a not ready review. The problem of getting new reporters who are unsuccessful at getting their article published has been identified as a major area for work. It has a large impact on reporter retention.
- Of interest for journalists
- Copyright's Role in a Free Press is an article by Terry Hart of the copyright alliance on the issue of funding important investigative journalism.
- Education
- Provisional Chairperson LauraHale is made a presentation at the EduWiki Conference 2013 in Cardiff, Wales about educational efforts on English Wikinews. Findings she included that changes in reviewing practices between semester 1 and semester 2 for one university course saw similar improvements for new reporters. What is good for students is good for the whole community.
- With the Education Extension[14] installed successfully on English Wikinews, a portal was started at WN:EDU[15] to encourage and provide training for educators to use Wikinews in their coursework. This is something The Wikinewsie Group is hoping to expand upon in the future, and plans to try to get translated into other languages. Plans are also underway to create a student portal to provide training for students. Many things to Sage Ross for his assistance in setting up the educator portal.
- GLAM
- The major GLAM work being done by a Wikinewsie at the moment is a Wikimedian in Residency with the Comité Paralímpico Español. A report was created this month for CPE based on interviews done in August. It can be found here.
- Paralympic work being done with the US Olympic Committee is progressing.
- Original reporting - summary
Between May 1 and October 31, when The Wikinewsie Group Newsletter first began tracking original reporting taking place across all projects, 227 stories have been published by 78 reporters 14 different language Wikinews projects. The projects with the greatest number of reporters engaged in original reporting were English with 15, Russian with 14, Polish with 13 and French with 10. Beyond these, original there were one or more journalists engaging in original reporting on Catalan, Chinese, Esperanto, German, Italian, Norwegian, Portuguese, Serbian, Spanish and Ukrainian. The peak month for reporting across all projects was May with 52 articles. It was followed by June with 49, August with 44, September with 43 and July with 39.
In the past four months, Spanish, Polish, French, Ukrainian, Russian and English have all produced over 20 total pieces of original reporting, with Russian Wikinews publishing 41 stories and English Wikinews publishing 60 stories.
LauraHale, RockerballAustralia, Antanana, Agamitsudo, Dmitry Rozhkov, Plogi, Krassotkin, Schekinov Alexey Victorovich, and MadriCR have each produced 5 or more pieces of original reporting in the past four months. Another group of users, Joan301009, Bddpaux, Computron, Laslovarga, Fed4ev and Yakudza, have produced four articles each.
For September, only three pieces of 43 original reports produced were translated from one language to another. They were Wikinews interviews specialists on China, Iran, Russia support for al-Assad, Wikinews interviews Dr Thomas Scotto and Dr Steve Hewitt about potential US military intervention in Syria, Atlético de Madrid defeats Real Madrid 1-0 in 2013 derby and Tokio gana la sede de los Juegos Olímpicos 2020. Original reporting is a major strength of Wikinews. It is one we should be playing to. The Wikinewsie Group would like to encourage everyone to assist translating Wikinews work into another language, or finding a local reporter to assist with translating a work from where it was originally published into that language. This will benefit all languages, promote more cooperation between projects, and expand news reach for our reporting which we can leverage to provide more opportunities for reporters.

Technically, Bddmagic shouldn't even exist here. That's actually my WP handle and sometimes, while jumping back and forth I'll forget to sign out/in. I like having different handles on different projects, but that gets (case in point) a little weird sometimes. --Bddpaux (talk) 16:56, 15 November 2013 (UTC)

Strange deletion
[16]: Are you sure this was right? As far as I see, this user is a constructive editor from the German language Wikipedia and the linked webpage is not really advertising. It just contains some additional information about the contributor himself. Thanks for reconsideration, Vogone (talk) 15:42, 17 November 2013 (UTC)
- Are they on German Wikipedia? I couldn't readily tell, since the tool is packing up. (I always did feel it was a bad idea to depend on an external toolserver to make up for inadequacies in the design of the wiki software; that's also one of the two mainreasons I dislike bots... but I digress.)
- We generally have very low tolerance on en.wn for external links on user pages, with some leeway granted if someone has actually become an active contributor here. For someone who's active on another sister, I really should leave a note on their user talk page, though. <goes to do that> --Pi zero (talk) 15:50, 17 November 2013 (UTC)

Tutoring??
Well, I wonder where/how I can learn what the scope of the Admin. bit covers?--Bddpaux (talk) 20:06, 20 November 2013 (UTC)
- Most of it is additional controls that appear because you have the privs. When you look at a page history, or at Special:RecentChanges, each user listing has, in addition to user page, talk page, and contributions, also a link for blocking them. When you rename a page, there's a box you can check to not leave a redirect. When viewing any page there are additional controls (either on a drop-down menu, or as separate tabs, depending on which skin you use) for changing the page protection and for deleting the page. And so on.
- In other words, there are more buttons for you to be careful not to accidently click! --Pi zero (talk) 21:03, 20 November 2013 (UTC)
Hmmmmm......
Well, I tried to delete this (as deletion is well past due)Obama may have been informed of Angela Merkel phone tapping.....but I think I did it wrong.....hmmmmmmmm. --Bddpaux (talk) 19:49, 22 November 2013 (UTC)
- Yeah, looks like something went awry. RecentChanges says the visibility of a revision was changed.
- What skin are you using? Vector? --Pi zero (talk) 19:52, 22 November 2013 (UTC)
Yes, I think so. My "Tools" list has certainly gotten longer. Let's change angles here......when you go to an article, and you intend to delete it. Where do you go/what do you see first? --Bddpaux (talk) 21:54, 22 November 2013 (UTC)
- Well, that's why I asked about skins. The default skin is Vector, and if you don't know you're using a different skin, you're presumably using Vector. The thing is, I prefer Monobook, which was the default skin when I first registered a wikimedia account (something like seven years ago). So ordinarily, when I look at an article, the tabs I see across the top of the page are article, collaboration, opinions, edit this page, history, delete, rename, change protection, watch, and (if the article has been submitted) review. But if I switch to Vector (using Special:Preferences — it's under Appearance), I see instead two sets of tabs: on the left, Article, Collaboration, and Opinions, and on the right, Read, Edit, View history, a star (for watching the page), and a down-arrow for a drop-down menu of additional options. The options on the drop-down menu (since I'm an admin and reviewer) are Delete, Rename, Protect, and (if submitted) Review.
- To delete the page, select the Delete option from that drop-down menu.
- There are controls on the history page to change visibility of particular revisions. --Pi zero (talk) 23:22, 22 November 2013 (UTC)
- Well, see......there you go....Monobook makes things nice and tidy, doesn't it?? That was just the ticket! --Bddpaux (talk) 03:35, 23 November 2013 (UTC)
H Pi Zero I followed your suggestions in Review of revision 2159786 [Not ready] Since 2 days now I the article has been submitted for t\review. Can you please look at it? Thanks --Rahulkepapa (talk) 06:05, 23 November 2013 (UTC)
- Rahulkepapa: I noticed you'd resubmitted. In the past couple of days I wasn't able to do as much reviewing as I'd hoped, and then there were some other articles competing for reviewer time. I hope to get to your article in the next few hours (it's morning where I am). --Pi zero (talk) 13:26, 23 November 2013 (UTC)
Well......
utilizing my shiny new mop, I did this. Did I do it right?? --Bddpaux (talk) 00:36, 25 November 2013 (UTC)
- Somehow you didn't move the talk page along with the article (I reunited them). On the renaming page, apparently you did check the box to not leave a redirect, but somehow the box to move the talk page must have gotten unchecked in the process. --Pi zero (talk) 04:07, 25 November 2013 (UTC)
Hi Pi zero
I'm having a hard time finding a place to respond to other users that have commented on the article that I have tried to write. One was from a Russian article that was translated into English and it looked pretty bad. That was the one from the Siberian Times. People Magazine will have an article of Sofia tomorrow (Monday). If I'm not successful with this article I may have to pass it on to someone else that will like to do it. I'm not a writer, nor am I good at it. I can only fix the grammar of bad English that has been translated from other languages. So if I continue with this I will need a lot of help with this project.
About me and how I know Sofia, I met her off of Facebook and there are a number of groups mostly Moms trying to find whys to bring her back to where she belongs. Her Russian is not to good since she has been there for only 2 1/2 years. The only way for an anglophone to be able to learn Russian is to take a 5 year extensive course in Russian to speak the language fluently. This is not what Sofia is able to do. So the only option left is to come back home or secondly is to apply for a visa to live in an English speaking country.
I'm trying to get the article started for her, it's very rough, and I don't know how to smooth it out.
Thank you for your time, Lauire

Sorry
I didn't mean to put a publish tag in the Bangkok article. I seem to have swept it up when I copied the categories from another article. Sorry. :( Hawkeye7 (talk) 04:36, 29 November 2013 (UTC)
- Ah. On the one hand, these things happen. On the other, this particular sort of goof is especially to be avoided. --Pi zero (talk) 13:17, 29 November 2013 (UTC)
