Blocked
editBrianmc...Please explain your block to me as I do not understand it. Was not aware it was against poliy to make comments on WN:ALERT. Jason Safoutin 18:51, 1 May 2006 (UTC)
- You're encouraging Neutralizer to make war. I reviewed his edit history since his block was up, and he was deliberately provoking a fight. You kept taking the "bait" and answering him in a provocative manner. Do not give him an excuse to post oblique attacks on other editors and promote a hostile environment. --Brian McNeil / talk 19:03, 1 May 2006 (UTC)
- IMO, he is provoking every user on this WIki. If you do not want anyone to comment on his behavior, then maybe comments on the alert page need to ONLY be made by ADMINS. I was commenting. Sorry if you do not agree but there IMO is not disruption. If cmnments are disruption, then eliminate talk pages. Jason Safoutin 19:43, 1 May 2006 (UTC)
Request for interview from candidate for US senate
editHi DragonFire1024... I'm bringing this to your attention because you have recently contributed to an article related to US politics. There is a request for interview up from Pete Ashdown, a candidate for the US Senate. Any Wikinews contributor is welcome to conduct the interview, if they think it is worthwhile. There is a discussion area on the request an interview page. I thought you may be interested.... - Borofkin 01:02, 2 May 2006 (UTC)
A first step to sort out the reasons and initiators of the 24 hours block of me (international)
editI like to now about your part of the dicussion on irc #wikinews-en when the subject of blocking me was discussed. The discussions resulted in Messedrockers block of me 01:38, 2 May 2006. Messedrocker acted as a neutral part based on the information and concensus (?) on the irc and didnt checked up the fact himself. Did you propagated for blocking me or did you encourage Messedrocker to block me? international 23:38, 3 May 2006 (UTC)
- Hi Jason, I've been stepping through 'recent changes' and noticed International made the same post here that was made on Amgine's talk page...
- ... so, I'll repeat here the follow up comment I made to International's post to Amgine:
- I'd like to add, I've been noticing weighty edits pop-up that seems to based on something occurring elsewhere. I really have no objection to IRC. I don't use it much because I find that it divides my attention. But if it is being used to discuss issues of concern, and policy interest of the entire community, then it misses it's audience.

Your concern about Cowicide
edit- Ok, I just adjusted the entire edit. Is that ok now? Neutralizer 01:50, 4 May 2006 (UTC)

editThanks so much for that link. I really appreciate it as the topic is of great interest to me. I will examine that info thoroughly after work. Thanks again:)) Neutralizer 13:53, 4 May 2006 (UTC)
Mediation
editI just not you that I have asked for a mediation with you involved. Please look at WN:MA international 18:27, 4 May 2006 (UTC)
I'll copy and paste here what I posted to Cartman02au's talk page because I'm interested in your opinion, as one who has consistently supported MrM:
Cartman, as you are one of the bringers of the case, my concern for you and other editors is the refusal by MrM to deal with the issues raised. What is sought by the dispute resolution process is a change in MrM's behavior. If he is allowed to not respond by labelling them as "attacks", and refuses to respond, then no opportunity is afforded you, as a disputant, to receive the relief you sought.
Are you satisfied with the heightened awareness of etiquette as enough of a response.
Personally, I am not. I maintain that it a responsibility to respond to the community. Failure to do so is one of the highest breeches of etiqette, because it ignores another's concerns. Where to ignore someone belittles them.
I have thoughts to proceed by asking ArbCom to either force MrM to answer to the dispute, or that he, or by precident any other editor, would leave the community if they refuse to answer to disputes that have merit.
Thoughts? -Edbrown05 01:32, 5 May 2006 (UTC)
Synopsis of helicopter crash
editHi, pardon the anon number; that's me but I keep getting unlogged somehow. I think it's better to include both sides opinion in the synopsis or else no reference to the cause at all. Doesn't that seem reasonable? Some people only read the synopsis. Neutralizer 14:20, 6 May 2006 (UTC)
- Sure, find a way to make it less than 4 sentences as the lead synopsis should only be 2 sentences...as it states above where you enter it. However, your edits to the article are misleading, as its taken from a quote. Jason Safoutin 14:25, 6 May 2006 (UTC)
- Hi, I wanted to say you did a good job of preparing the story and it is a good lead story. Sorry I had to go to work and couldn't address your point about "no proof" which was a good point. After many decades of observing the way government spokespeople of the USA twist words to misrepresent situations; I would like to show you what I mean. For example, Clinton said "I did not have sex with that woman". Remember this was before Monica's dress with his sperm on it showed up. So he was saying something which in the future he could back away from as he did by claiming that oral sex is not really sex. Clinton was referred to admirably as a "wordsmith". Now when it comes to war; almost all spokespeople are supposed to put their side's spin or propaganda on every event. In this case, it is better for the morale of US troops to present it as an accident...just as it was better to present the football star's death as being from hostile fire rather than friendly fire....but here are the clues. If this was an accident; they would come right out and say it was an accident. When she uses the phraseology I have made bold, it gives her an out similar to Clinton's out should it be proven tomorrow that the helicopter was shot down; it is kindof nasty that she is saying the other "crews" "confirmed" that the enemy didn't do it because this way she can blame the error on the "crews" if shown it was hostile fire and, obviously if the "crews" could confirm what did not happen, they must be able to confirm what did happen; yet she is not saying there is any confirmation as to what did happen.
- "The remains of all the 10 soldiers have been found and there are no survivors. There is no indication that the helicopter came down due to some enemy action. Additional aircraft and crews were also at the landing zone and confirmed that enemy forces did not cause the crash," said Lt. Tamara D. Lawrence.
- "We have no indication that that happened," said Lawrence in response to Hanif's claim. "The crash occurred in a very mountainous terrain and the landing zone was very difficult. It was a mountain-top landing zone. There were various weather factors that could have come into play ... There were high winds. We are investigating any possible causes for the accident but there were no enemy actions detected at the scene," she added.
- Just be aware that when reporting based on military spokespeople's words that it doesn't hurt to disect their words like a surgeon because they are reading press releases written by "wordsmiths" like Clinton. Neutralizer 00:03, 7 May 2006 (UTC)
- Excuse me? No. It is NOT alright to disect any quotes from any person. I don't know how you write stories, but thats not the right way. Jason Safoutin 00:24, 7 May 2006 (UTC)

You've been TEA'D!
editConspiracy
editI just saw the first section. Thanks so much. I will watch the rest asap. I totally believe that proven facts show the government of the United States of America has been hijacked by a coalition of elitists; most of whom belong to weirdo cults. Here is the book which covers almost everything and some info about the author.
The sad thing is that if Bush and Kerry belonged to the KKK everyone would be really pissed off. The S&B is much worse than the KKK, but few people will take a few hours to research the S&B.
The book is available at many large libraries. Again, thanks so much for the link to the documentary, Jason. Neutralizer 13:08, 8 May 2006 (UTC)
News ticker
editI am interested in a 'ticker' or a "more soon" box/template for the front page. It would show a synopsis of a "Breaking News" story that is not yet published or ready to be...aka no sources or something that is likely to change by the second. BBC does it with three stories, ABC does it when they only have a sentence to report on.
I think this would boost readertship and I would welcome any inpuit to this. Remember one thing, I have only the idea and someone(s) else would have to "build" it :) Jason Safoutin 15:32, 9 May 2006 (UTC)

WN:E
editHi Jason... statements such as "I am now referring you to WN:E. Please read over it" will only increase tension during a conflict. I suspect that everyone involved in these content disputes know WN:E back-to-front, as they so often use it as a weapon. There is nothing wrong with refering to WN:E, but you should always explain in detail how WN:E has been violated, and how the user should behave differently. - Borofkin 04:28, 11 May 2006 (UTC)
re: Audio Wikinews
editT´anks very much indeed for your encouragement! :-)
My "quest", or like I´d rather put it, "my aim" :) is to get a kind of regularity into wikinews, since I do think, it is a "well-worth" idea to support. I do hope that - as long as I have the time - I manage to - whenever possible - produce one newsbriefs contribution per day (apart from articles read). Hopefully more people join in (allow me to move your eyes, or shall I write: your ears? :), to a very talented new reader (Will Jenkins) of wikinews. I think he is highly gifted concerning "reading news".)
Thanks again, "and enjoy the rest of your day" ;) Gumboyaya 14:02, 11 May 2006 (UTC)

Neutralizer and other users
editHi Jason, As you already know I happen to respect your opinion when it comes to WN related issues so I thought I would ask what you think about the current disputes between Brianmc, MrM and Neutralizer. What can we do to resolve this as a community - Cartman02au (Talk)(AU Portal) 08:29, 14 May 2006 (UTC)
- I know that you dont have any issues with MrM, but as someone who I respect on this site I value your input with this issue. The fact of the matter is we can not continue to go down the road we are, the infighting will eventually kill this site - Cartman02au (Talk)(AU Portal) 00:26, 16 May 2006 (UTC)

Writing contest - jokers
editI added your stories to the log. They apearently got overlooked (sorry). You may wish to edit meta:International Wikinews Writing Contest 2/log directly, to make sure that it doesn't get overlooked again. You currently have 4 jokers and you're in second place behind Cartman02Au who has 5 jokers. Archive page in main namespace
editHi Jason... do you realise that DragonFire1024/April06Archive is in the main namespace? - Borofkin 03:53, 18 May 2006 (UTC)
- Umm yes? Whats wrong with that? if there is somethign wrong...how can I fix it? Sorry thought it was right. Please help then :) Jason Safoutin 11:50, 18 May 2006 (UTC)
- I fixed it by adding User_talk: to the front of the name, and deleting the redirect. Nyarlathotep 13:21, 18 May 2006 (UTC)
- Hi Jason... sorry I didn't see your response. The main namespace should contain articles only. Your archive page was showing up in the "Developing stories" list on the Main page. It's an easy mistake to make - I've done it myself a couple of times. The way to fix it is to move the contents back to your User: (or User_talk:) namespace, and then add the {{delete}} tag to the page in the main namespace, and an Admin will come along and delete it. For the record, I don't think something like this has any bearing on whether a person is suitable to be an administrator. - Borofkin 04:32, 22 May 2006 (UTC)

Your RfA.
editThe voting period for your RfA ended as of 18 May 2006, so I moved the request to the archives. I just thought I should let you know that the page had been moved, so as to avoid any possible confusion later. The final tally was 8 support, 8 oppose and 1 abstain. Unfortunately it appears consensus was not reached. Better luck next time. PVJ 14:16, 21 May 2006 (UTC)

editThanks for finding the time to vote on my RfA. I agree I am still young here, but I have full confidence in my abilities to use Administrative tools (if they are granted to me) in the best interests of Wikinews. Hopefully, later on, I will enjoy your support. PVJ (Talk) 02:42, 25 May 2006 (UTC)

Blocked for disruption?
editIf thats the case, then I want Eloquence blocked for the personal attack on the WN:A talk page. Calling users trolls is unacceptable. Jason Safoutin 15:40, 27 May 2006 (UTC)

Rfda's
editPlease note that Amgine decided to abuse admin poewrs and deleted the Rfda's page without concensus. Also note that Eloquence attacked me on the talk page of WN:A and I have yet to see a block. Also note that the users who voted on an Rfda just had their votes thrown out. What a good way to get users to stay and contribute. Jason Safoutin 16:01, 27 May 2006 (UTC)
- Here is the attack by Eloquence: [2]
Notice how he/she got away with it?? 16:27, 27 May 2006 (UTC)
Jason Safoutin, I'm glad you're not a big fan of the singular they, either. I don't know what the policy is for requesting for de-adminship. I'd like an explaination of why the add/delete, myself. I'd think consensus would be required for adding or deleting such a large list on for de-adminship. So I imagine if any user can add to it without consensus, Amgine should be able to remove from it. There really should be some general guidelines. Karen 23:11, 27 May 2006 (UTC)
- I think (in my humble opinion) that the main issue wan't that you put them up there, but that you but 20 up there at once. re-confirm, may be a good thing, but twenty on their at once is a recipe for disaster. (and is just annoying to look into each one and vote on them. I myself would want to look into each ones contributations before voting, and I wouldn't have the time to do 20 at once) How about one at a time (Note this is my un-knowing opinion, I could be wrong, and others proably disagree with me).Bawolff ☺☻ 23:21, 27 May 2006 (UTC)
- Jason, what I want to know is why did you put then up for de-Administratorship instead of re-confirmation? PVJ (Talk) 07:00, 28 May 2006 (UTC)
Jason, we've been through this de-admin stuff before - it is the reason why the Arbcom was created. Please look at this page from December 2005, where Neutralizer is trying to have Amgine de-admined, for what he called "abuse of administrative authority". By persisting with these activities on WN:A you are placing yourself in league with users such as Neutralizer. - Borofkin 00:00, 29 May 2006 (UTC)

Recently posted editorials
editHi Jason... remember when dealing with new users to assume good faith. More often than not they are confused or just don't know our policies, as opposed to disruption and vandalism, which are deliberate attempts to harm Wikinews. If we show a little patience to new users, even those who are annoying, they may just turn into productive contributors. Good job keeping keeping on the editorials, by the way. Such articles certainly cannot be allowed to be published. - Borofkin 02:21, 6 June 2006 (UTC)

IWWC- three finalists
editWe're down to the last three finalists in the IWWC. Normally, the contest would end, and prizes would be awarded, but with only one prize, I suggest we keep the contest going, and do the following:
- 1st Place: 33.30 euros
- 2nd Place: 22.20 euros
- 3rd Place: 11.10 euros
Any objections? Ral315 (talk) 00:16, 7 June 2006 (UTC)

On blocking
editI've lost some track on where the conversation is at concerning a user using two or more identities emanating from one person. What do you think? If a user is blocked on one identity, does it extend to another of their's? -Edbrown05 03:08, 8 June 2006 (UTC)
- Absolutely. I have said that a block is a block. If you have another screen name you use after you have been blocked, that IMO is block evasion, no matter how good you are editing. Jason Safoutin 13:12, 8 June 2006 (UTC)

OK, I'm in class reading the article, and the girl next to me thinks whoever wrote the article is an idiot for having the American flag with an "American flag" caption on it. Really, do we need a picture of the Earth there too? Or the solar system? 159.247.237.3 17:56, 8 June 2006 (UTC) (w:User:Audacity)
- Both being in the article are NPOV. they are both related to the article. Regardless of English or french or whatever language you speak believe it or not there are people out there who do not know what either of the symbols mean. As for an idiot, please use WN:E when speaking to users. Calling people "idiots" can be considered a personal attack. Jason Safoutin 18:00, 8 June 2006 (UTC)
- Sorry about my "etiquette." I don't think the person is an idiot, and neither does the girl - that was just the impression that the article gave. And as I said, I didn't remove the image on NPOV concerns, but because it is almost patronizing in its obviousness. If you start to include pictures for any relevant subject, no matter how well-known the subject is, you will end up with pictures of the solar system on every article. Take a fresh look at the article, and I think you will see how patently ridiculous the flag is. 159.247.237.3 18:07, 8 June 2006 (UTC)(w:User:Audacity)
- I have looked. I added them...it may be your personal opinion that it looks "ridiculous" but it represents NPOV to have both and not just one or the other. Planets stars and whatever else in space has nothing to do with this article. Jason Safoutin 18:36, 8 June 2006 (UTC)
- The article takes place on Earth, no? So therefore, it represents NPOV to not have a picture of Earth as well, huh? In fact, if I didn't feel a need to not make disruptivepoints, I'd add picures of a man and a woman ("The bill would define marriage as between a man and a woman") to "illustrate" the article for anyone who doesn't know what a man or a woman is.

editHi Jason.... this is unhelpful. Remember that Ealturner is a relatively new user. He has been actively participating on the talk page, and going to great lengths to try and explain his position. Throwing policy-links at him is only going to increase the level of tension. - Borofkin 00:41, 9 June 2006 (UTC)
- I will not be threatened by him. I will not be intimidated by him. This user may be new, but has done nothing but threaten and insult users. - If you have changes you'd like on the hello template, the correct way to request them is to put a diff or some other form of proposal on the talk page (for example, use a {{quote}} template to show before/after) and bring it up on WN:ALERT. I think it might be a good idea having a hello template and a helloIP template, as long as the welcomittee page was also updated to point to this. --Brian McNeil / talk 18:45, 11 June 2006 (UTC)

- The hello template should be substituted, so that changes don't effect users, and one they click edit, it doesn't confuse new users, that they're not editing their own page. I don't think its neccesessary to go through so many hoops to edit it. What happened to be bold (as in get an admin to be bold for you), the revert button is in easy reach if someone doesn't like what you put. Bawolff ☺☻ 20:48, 11 June 2006 (UTC)
ALERT
editAs was mentioned by Amgine, you are not supposed to debate over articles on the Administrative Action Alert page, as the latter is meant to draw the attention of Administrators (like me) to issues which might the attention of such trusted users. Since you have been around here for so long, I believe you are aware of the fact that there are talk pages for sorting out disagreements about articles. So please stop taking such disputes to the Alert page to attract attention to what you have to say. PVJ (Talk) 11:48, 12 June 2006 (UTC)
- Maybe when help is needed users should not be ignored by either the user he/she is in dispute with, use Ediquetter, and Not be ignored by Administraters, all of which were more than happy to reply once a 1. request for mediation was made and 2. when the alert was posted. As I said before, I was ignored...period and told my concerns were "straggling." If I am ignored on the talk page...then where to? Maybe more attention needs to be paid around here. editI noticed that in about 48 hours, you will stop editing Wikinews for an extended period of time. I think I speak for more than myself when I say that we'll miss you and your wonderful articles about petty squabbles in corrupt northeastern cities in spoiled countries... Anyways, what I was wondering is if I could maintain your IWWC page while you're gone, so it can still be up-to-date about your status in the contest. I won't drop out for you, but I'll be sure to note each day and all that. Let me know on my talk page. —THIS IS MESSED OCKER (TALK) 01:49, 14 June 2006 (UTC)
cartoons
editI don't think you will see me any time soon giving up on the idea of cartoons here at Wikinews. I did find one link to a water cooler topic on cartoons :WikiTOONS.
There was another slightly more drawn out discussion on the water cooler that I can't find after looking for a while. The point is, I think there is interest in this, only its execution is hard to achieve.
So, expect to revisit the topic another day. Good luck on your moving and best regards :) Edbrown05 04:43, 15 June 2006 (UTC)

Renamed article hay fever tablets
editDear DragonFire1024,
thx for moving the article, I like the title. Now that you have mentioned it, the title was indeed POV. I didn't notice because of my English: I thought "hailed" implied some sence of skepticism about the fact that it's being hailed, but that might have just been a strange twist in my mind. Anyway, thank you for the title change. Your doing a great job keeping the standards high around here.
Thanks!

confused about what needs to be changed in Hubble article
editHi. I was just wondering what needed to be cleaned up in the "Hubble Finds 16 New Planets" article. I would like to correct as soon as possible.
Please take care
editNowhere in that article did it say that North Korea said it would fire a nuclear missile at the U.S. As the North Koreans have reiterated that they would not do a first strike attack (which would just be suicidal, anyway, especially given that neither their missiles nor their nuclear warheads seem to work), it is a bit more likely that they meant as a test. At the very least, don't extrapolate in such sensationalistic ways if you can help it. --Fastfission 00:43, 11 October 2006 (UTC)
