I'm a mathematics postdoc at the University of Manchester, England, but visiting Universite Paris 7. My research area is model theoretic algebra (specifically group theory). I'm spend most of my time doing research & trying to learn French, but I find a bit of time for drinking and wikinews.  ;)

I consider myself a transhumanist. I do not consider myself "left wing", as I adore Peter Singer's definition of the left, i.e. those who care about reducing suffering, but I just don't feel this is an "eternal" moral principle. I even see memetic evolutionary success as the only basis for any such "eternal" principle. In practice, you will find me quite far left on cultural issues, but not necissarily on economic ones, although I'm strongly anti-monopolist and anti-intellectual property.
