Thank you very much for that, it is a fascinating read from someone who knows the political landscape of Thailand very well. He is quite accurate that TRT was populist, but there is no mention of what the policies were that proved popular to the rural poor. Dynamic navigation template

Hi,

can you tell me why Template:Dynamic navigation noncentered doesn't work on Wikiversity? http://en.wikiversity.org/wiki/Template:Dynamic_navigation_noncentered

Does it require some css file, or other templates to work?

It works for me, I get a Collapse/Expand button at the top. It is inconsistent here (wikinews), it works in Firefox, but not IE unless you add wikinews to your trusted sites. On wikipedia similar navigation seems to work in all browsers.

The problem is likely somewhere in Special:allmessages on Wikiversity, but I don't know if the problem is CSS or Javascript. --Brian McNeil / ^talk 07:54, 1 October 2006 (UTC)

Hubble story questions

How do you cite sources if they are simply interviews? None of my sources are internet stories, as this just came up and the embargo was just lifted. I'm new at this, and I want to clean this up and get it to stay.

Also, did your comment mean that I need to put those notes in my own talk page, like this one for you? I just clicked on a link for where to put them. I appologize for putting them in the inappropriate place.

Correction to block message

There is a problem with the block message when you view the source of a page.

I consider many of the things written by Neutralizer to be severe attacks on a wide segment of the Wikinews community. If labelling everyone who used the Journowiki site as a sandbox a member of some cabal bent on the destruction of Wikinews isn't a delusion, I don't know what is. Have you looked at the site at all? See here and click the link at the bottom. The domain has expired, a domain parking service has it in the hope they can either (a) make money from adverts on it, or (b) get extra cash selling it on if Amgine ever decides he wants it again. What does Neutralizer think? He thinks Amgine is now profiting from links to the site from Wikinews. Then there's the rant about me calling some of his edits "crap", I give an example above. Just how many countries are there that don't have an "innocent until proven guilty" judicial system? And how many of them have widespread Internet access as well? You might also look at the dates on that edit, it was a deliberate attempt to get that into a story where very few editors might catch it.

Now, if you want to dig through my past edits, you'll find that I have indeed insulted Neutralizer several times in the past. Go beyond that and you'll see I earlier had tried to mediate when he had disputes with other contributors, appealed for lesser penalties, and tried to explain how he could contribute constructively with less conflict. Now, last thing is to look up Neutralizer's edit history, and see that the vast majority of his edits are to talk and policy pages. He's a POV warrior, his ideology is more important than the project's goal of producing timely news. I simply gave up on him, he has to change - not the wiki. Question about DPL

If I were to put a DPL on my talk page (for example, [[Category:Wikinewsies looking for help]]) would I get a "You have a new message" message every time it was updated, or would it not be an edit? Thunderhead(talk) 19:32, 29 October 2006 (UTC)

Question about blocking users

Hi,

I've just done my first blocks, two inapropriate usernames. But I was somewhat confused over the "account creation" prevention: should be unchecked in these cases, no?

Also, shouldn't that box appear unchecked when you open a page, I mean it shouldn't be the standard option, right?

The account creation block is, if I recall correctly, a 24 hour block on the same IP address creating a new account. I've never fully investigated all the intricacies of the blocking mechanisms. --Brian McNeil / ^talk 19:50, 30 October 2006 (UTC)

Typhoon Cimaron

I have a couple questions about the article, Deadly Typhoon Cimaron makes landfall in Luzon. Am I allowed to update this anymore? Appartently, 16 people died, and 6 died from flooding, not 5. Re:Article standards

I wasn't aware of the 2 sources policy till recently, but will try and implement in as much as possible. I was under the impression that editors were supposed to use whichever date format they were most familiar with, which is why I used date/month/year. I note your request to claim your username on Wikiquote. The only way to do this is to get Kalki, the only Bureaucrat on Wikiquote, to move the existing Brianmc to another name and then allow you to create the user again. Wikipedia doesn't allow 'usurpation' of usernames, although their rules don't necessarily apply on Wikiquote. Fys 22:42, 2 November 2006 (UTC)

Blanking references section

I noticed you blanked the references section for article Free Software Foundation announces release of gNewSense version 1.0. I have seen this done to other articles. My question is why? OK, like what? Lori Brown wrote the article after attending the press conference, asking questions, and reviewing all the press packet materials. It's what any reporter does. I then helped her with the editing. That strikes us as sufficient. But she and I are both new to WikiNews and learning how to do it. So if you know something we don't, can you be more specific? (And, please, don't direct us to a long file of instructions. A simple answer will do.)

That said, I can't help pointing out that it strikes me as unjustified for you, on your own initiative, to take down a posted story and throw it back into development when the story is quite fine the way it is. If it needs some tweaking on matters of "OR notes" (whatever OR means), just leave the story up and ask for the tweaking. We're happy to do it. As per the "only one non-english source" (this part is more important, because we will bump into this issue a number of times if I'll be reporting news from Turkey):

1. The tag you put on the page tells you that local stories are exempt (click on "show")

2. Also see this discussion where the following are documented:
