Wikidata edit

Hi,

Thanks for your contributions to Wikinews,

So that in Wikidata we can attribute you as the author of your articles, I have created an entry for you there.

I have been careful to only use information you already have on your userpage but just wanted to give you a heads-up so you don't have a surprise moment :-)

Former U.S. first lady Rosalynn Carter dies at 96 edit

Hi Ash, would you mind please replacing any non-English sources here that can be replaced while maintaining verifiability with English sources (I suspect that would be all, given the subject)? WN:CS says the use of non-English sources "should be restricted to those absolutely essential, such as where there is only a single English source and the non-English source is required to corroborate the story and avoid potential copyright issues." They really lengthen the amount of time review takes if the reviewer doesn't understand the source language, like with me in this case (since reviewers are advised not to use just unreliable machine translation to read the sources).

I get translating articles across Wikinews editions helps you practice your skills with that language and improves cross-edition collaboration, but in this case... Thanks, Heavy Water (talk) 00:20, 23 November 2023 (UTC)Reply

Done! The reason I chose to do a translation rather than synthesise an article from scratch is because I noticed nothing had been published for a month and I wanted to get some form of longer article out. I'm currently very busy with university so I haven't had the time to write anything "proper", so when I saw de.wikinews had published something I just thought I'd translate it to get us something new. Amidst all things....... edit

Your help/contributions around here are appreciated. Please let me know what I can do to help you.--Bddpaux (talk) 19:28, 22 March 2024 (UTC)Reply

I'm a bit directionless at the moment in terms of what I can/should work on. I have press tickets to the Insomnia gaming festival here in Birmingham next weekend, so I'll do some OR for that. Another other piece of my OR, an interview with the runner up of Ireland's Eurovision national final, is currently still stuck in the review queue, it's been there for 2 months now. The original event is beyond stale, but the article can definitely be reframed further around the interview I did. I'm going to have to find alternate sources for some things because I'd imagine the original broadcast they had on the RTÉ website has been taken off now. IIRC they keep them for 30 days. A.S. Eurovision article edit

Please see my review.--Bddpaux (talk) 15:45, 27 March 2024 (UTC)Reply

Hiya,
I'll be able to Gatwick it next week. I'm having a bad health week, unfortunately! A.S. Thawley (talk) (calendar) 22:25, 29 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
This week's been equally bad for my health. Fingers crossed for next week. Chronic illness is a real headache haha. A.S. Thawley (talk) (calendar) 13:28, 10 April 2024 (UTC)Reply
The article is essentially about an award being granted AND your interview. In it's current state, this article will not be published. You might want to grab the interview text and throw it into a sandbox for later use.... I do believe this stands a chance, if gatwicked properly, but I am failing and deleting this article very soon. I will give you a bit of time to grab the text and copy it over if you wish to do so.--Bddpaux (talk) 15:29, 15 April 2024 (UTC)Reply
The interview is already stored in my emails so if you want to delete the article you can, I can restart it when I'm feeling better.
I'm currently suffering a complete collapse of my ability to function, I've been wheelchaired everywhere the last couple of weeks because I just cannot get my brain or body to cooperate with me. I'm just saying this because I don't want this inactivity to reflect poorly on me and my commitment to the project: my commitment to my health remains my first priority and I have to take some time to mentally and physically recover before I can work on this to a standard I'd want to publish.
I completely agree that the existing article isn't publishable. I was already flaring up when I wrote the original and the last few months have been rocky, to say the least. I'll work on a new article focussing more on AILSHA herself (because she's been doing more things since I interviewed her) once I'm in the right physical and mental space to sit down and write it. Cheers! A.S. Thawley (talk) (calendar) 18:17, 15 April 2024 (UTC)Reply
