Wikinews:Arbitration Committee/Elections July 2008/Nominations

Please note: Of the present members of ArbCom, Bawolff has stated that re-election will not be sought.

  • Nobody seems to want to put names forward, I would prefer to see the process move forward with people nominating those they feel are best suited to the position. As one of those with an expiring term I will put myself forward as a self-nomination, with the proviso that someone seconds this. --Brian McNeil / talk 14:30, 29 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Nomination seconded. --Skenmy(tcw) 18:05, 29 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
TUFKAAP do you accept the nomination?
Nomination accepted, I was planning to be the first person to run, but I wasn't too sure, but I'm glad to run. --TUFKAAP (talk) 00:03, 30 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I will endorse Skenmy's nomination, but not second it as this might seem like being a cabal that supports itself. I feel he could do a good job in the position (he ran for board and didn't come last), but what we all really want is for the ArbCom to never be needed. --Brian McNeil / talk 21:45, 29 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Nomination seconded. --TUFKAAP (talk) 00:03, 30 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
This is a nomination I would be happy to second. Blood Red Sandman, do you accept? --Brian McNeil / talk 15:38, 30 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I accept. Thanks for your support and trust. Blood Red Sandman (Talk) (Contribs) 17:29, 30 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I nominate Cirt as he is a trusted user who has proven himself as a good contributor who is able to resolve issues calmly and without argument. I thereofore think he wil be good for the Arbitration committee.Anonymous101 (talk) 14:58, 30 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Second nomination. Another level-headed contributor who works for the good of the project.
Cirt, do you accept? --Brian McNeil / talk 15:39, 30 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I accept, thanks much for the nomination and I am honored by your comments. Cirt (talk) 20:49, 30 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I nominate Chris Mann, an Admin and all-around solid Wikinewsie, who deserves consideration for this position. It would also be good to have representation from down-under. --SVTCobra 17:09, 30 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Oops, Chris Mann is not an Admin. Yet, I stand by this nomination. --SVTCobra 01:56, 1 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Do you accept this nomination?
I'm a what now? Seriously, I accept the nomination. Chris Mann (Say hi!|Stalk me!) 01:42, 1 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I nominate Cspurrier, an Admin, Bureaucrat and Steward. Cspurrier has served on ArbCom and has Checkuser privileges already. --SVTCobra 17:09, 30 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Do you accept this nomination?
I accept, thanks. --Cspurrier (talk) 19:28, 30 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I nominate Stevenfruitsmaak, an Admin and all-around solid Wikinewsie, who deserves consideration for this position. Stevenfruitsmaak had expressed interest in running for ArbCom in January 2008. --SVTCobra 17:09, 30 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Do you accept this nomination?
Wouldn't it be pretty easy to find someone else to count the votes if he wants to run? --SVTCobra 17:49, 30 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
As I definitely do not want to run, I don't mind counting votes if Stevenfruitsmaak (talk · contribs) wants to stand Anonymous101 (talk) 21:13, 30 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • It's nice to have SVTCobra nominate me, but I have to decline. As some of you might have noticed my contributions have dropped recently and will probably continue to be slow in the future, as I've partially shifted my attention back to Wikipedia's WikiProject Medicine and I'm starting another busy year in my medical training. I deliberately chose to be on the election committee because I knew I wouldn't be running. --Steven Fruitsmaak (Reply) 18:53, 6 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I nominate myself, SVTCobra, an Admin and all-around pain-in-the-ass, who wishes to be considered for this position. SVTCobra finished fourth in the ArbCom elections in July 2007 in a race for three seats. --SVTCobra 17:09, 30 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Can I get a second for this nomination?
I second your nomination. You are an excellent contributer who I completely trust to be on the Arbitration Committee Anonymous101 (talk) 17:50, 30 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I nominate Doldrums (talk · contribs), a current sitting member of the Arbitration Committee. Doldrums' successful RfA for admin in 2006 concluded with unanimous support. I think Doldrums would continue to serve as a valued member of the Arbitration Committee if elected. Cirt (talk) 21:11, 30 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Do you accept this nomination?
thank you for ur confidence in me, but i'd prefer to decline the nomination this time. there're many contributors here more active than me who'd make fine arbitrators. good luck to them! –Doldrums(talk) 04:40, 6 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I nominate IlyaHaykinson (talk · contribs), a current sitting member of the Arbitration Committee. IlyaHaykinson (talk · contribs) has served as an administrator on Wikinews since January 2005, and he is also a bureaucrat. He had already gained the trust of the community and I believe will continue to serve the community well in this position. Cirt (talk) 21:21, 30 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

While I really appreciate the nomination, and the continued trust that this implies, I no longer am as involved in the day-to-day at WN as I used to be. While some may feel this can make me a better/more impartial candidate for the ArbCom, I think that ArbCom should be filled by more active and more recent community members. Thus, I respectfully decline. -- IlyaHaykinson (talk) 18:08, 2 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I have served on Arbcom since January 2007. I will put myself forward as a self-nomination, with the proviso that someone seconds this (much like Brian's above). Without bragging, at the moment on Wikinews I am a accredited contributor, Administrator, Arbitrator, Checkuser, Oversight and Bureaucrat, and feel that I can still serve the community well in this position. Brian | (Talk) | New Zealand Portal 09:55, 1 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I second the other Brian's nom. He's level-headed and I can't ever remember him getting embroiled in a dispute. --Brian McNeil / talk 09:57, 1 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Deprifry (talk · contribs) is an administrator and a former member of the Arbitration Committee. Deprifry contributes positively to this project and I think would serve well on the Arbitration Committee. Cirt (talk) 22:12, 4 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you, but I have to decline. --+Deprifry+ 19:46, 5 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I would like to put myself forward for self-nomination with a seconder, much like the two Brian's did before me ;). --Nzgabriel | Talk 09:27, 5 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Seconded. A contributor since May 2006, successful RfA in August 2006, Nzgabriel (talk · contribs) would make a fine addition to ArbCom. Cirt (talk) 17:07, 5 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
