Farewell / Come back soon?

Davodd — it's been a pleasure having you on this site. Like you, I was not initially sure that this is the proper platform for creating the citizen journalism site. Indeed, I was not even convinced that a wiki for a news is appropriate. I think Wikinews is showing that the Wiki nature of the site is a great positive attribute that is missing from nearly every other news outlet. And yet the site still hasn't proven itself as a good journalism platform.

I really value your input over the many months: you've brought experience, organization, and common sense to our process. You've taught a great number of people a lot about writing, editing. Your experience as a long-time Wikipedian was also tremendously helpful: I think a fair number of Wikinewsies aren't hardcore Wikipedians.

Instead of quitting the project, I encourage you to take a different role. Try an advocacy position, or try to experiment with using credentials. Consider staying and doing administrative duties for a while. Consider sticking around but staying out of the Wikinews: pages and focusing on some topic or regional niche.

Or if you go, take more of a time-out. It is long-time, talented contributors such as you that have a chance to make amateur journalists out of news junkies that stumble onto Wikinews at random and decide to stay. If you could take another few months and see how the site develops later (maybe it's more friendly then), I think you'll find that the book isn't closed on Wikinews. -- IlyaHaykinson 06:33, August 26, 2005 (UTC)

The reporter-level scheme you'd just started was particularly useful in building up writers' confidence and professionalism. PepsiCo names Nooyi CEO as Reinemund retires

Thank you for your work on this article. It reads beautifully now. It was a bit of a hodge-podge as some paragraphs were added by different editors. It is now streamlined. I think I will edit the final sentence which reads a little akward. Sorry, if I sounded a little ticked-off in my response to your critique. Well, I guess I was, it seemed like you just blew in here after a long absence and unpublished a bunch of work that people had been working on all day. NCAA Sports: Mid-Con name to be dropped in favor of Summit League

Hi Davodd. I am sorry, I guess that I could have notified you directly on your talk page. Most people watch the articles they create, so writing on the article's talk page is usually enough to get their attention. When I raised my sourcing concerns, I had read the source, but didn't realize I had to watch the video. I also waited nearly eight hours before putting the tag on the article. Lastly, while putting the tag on the article does un-publish the article, it does show up in the newsroom as needing attention. --SVTCobra 09:43, 10 May 2007 (UTC)

Not that they are comparable since more than one writer worked on them - and you must admit that looking at the history that the article was not up to Wikinews quality snuff. But, I do believe I did pitch in and help fix the errors and the article was, indeed published. Yes, I did learn a lot from that article (you didn't have to be so gracious as to say that you learned from it, too). It was one of my earliest contributions, and I remember the frustration that it kept getting un-published (I wish I could say they were fond memories). I think I have come a long way, and now know how to write an article in way that rarely gets disputed. I think I can properly credit you for some of that development in my writing. On that note, I am sorry that I tagged your article for unsourced statements. As I have mentioned, it came from overlooking the video link. BTW, I noticed in your user page that you are from Indiana, did you attend a school in the Mid-Con (now Summit League)?
