Thanks Davodd
editThanks for your help when I first joined up. We just hit 200 million daily visits yesterday[[1]]; so I think its working on some level. All the best to you. Paulrevere2005 17:31, 25 August 2005 (UTC)
- Paul, thats not 200m daily visits - given that theres only about 1,000m intenet users it would be great if you were correct! It means that for every 1m surfers, 200 visit us. → CGorman (Talk) 19:31, 25 August 2005 (UTC)
- "Good luck to you all. I hope you prove me wrong." - We will. I, and everyone else, will miss your input hugely. When DV left I was stunned. I wanted to yell NO!!!!! YOU CAN'T DO THAT at him! I feel the same here. You are free to leave if you want, but you will not be forgotten - your impact here has been to great to disappear. Goodbye. → CGorman (Talk) 19:31, 25 August 2005 (UTC)
Thank you
editThank you for the very kind suggestions you have made to me in the past; it's Wikinewsies like you that keep this thing rolling. If there was an indcident that "blew your lid", I'd really appreciate it if you'd tell us, perhaps we can improve in that regard.
Best wishes,

Another thanks
editDavodd, it's been a pleasure working with you for the past few months. I know we didn't always see eye-to-eye on issues, but I thank you for bearing my annoyance in order to help this project along. Best wishes to the future. --Mrmiscellanious 01:06, 26 August 2005 (UTC)
Farewell / Come back soon?
editDavodd — it's been a pleasure having you on this site. Like you, I was not initially sure that this is the proper platform for creating the citizen journalism site. Indeed, I was not even convinced that a wiki for a news is appropriate. I think Wikinews is showing that the Wiki nature of the site is a great positive attribute that is missing from nearly every other news outlet. And yet the site still hasn't proven itself as a good journalism platform.
I really value your input over the many months: you've brought experience, organization, and common sense to our process. You've taught a great number of people a lot about writing, editing. Your experience as a long-time Wikipedian was also tremendously helpful: I think a fair number of Wikinewsies aren't hardcore Wikipedians.
Instead of quitting the project, I encourage you to take a different role. Try an advocacy position, or try to experiment with using credentials. Consider staying and doing administrative duties for a while. Consider sticking around but staying out of the Wikinews: pages and focusing on some topic or regional niche.
Or if you go, take more of a time-out. It is long-time, talented contributors such as you that have a chance to make amateur journalists out of news junkies that stumble onto Wikinews at random and decide to stay. If you could take another few months and see how the site develops later (maybe it's more friendly then), I think you'll find that the book isn't closed on Wikinews. -- IlyaHaykinson 06:33, August 26, 2005 (UTC)
Thanks and what they said
editDavodd, I'm really sorry to see you leave and agree with everything they've said above. The reporter-level scheme you'd just started was particularly useful in building up writers' confidence and professionalism. I hope you'll consider returning and working on the issues you have a problem with, we need you. But if you do go, thanks for what you did :) ClareWhite 08:37, 26 August 2005 (UTC)

- Well, that was just sloppy of me. -- Davodd | Talk 00:20, 15 August 2006 (UTC)
Thank you for your work on this article. It reads beautifully now. It was a bit of a hodge-podge as some paragraphs were added by different editors. It is now streamlined. I think I will edit the final sentence which reads a little akward. Sorry, if I sounded a little ticked-off in my response to your critique. Well, I guess I was, it seemed like you just blew in here after a long absence and unpublished a bunch of work that people had been working on all day. Anyway, thanks again for the great rewrite. --SVTCobra 22:11, 17 August 2006 (UTC)
Wrong
editNot sure if you will read this message since you have left this project.
This is a quote from your user page: "For a project that relies upon unpaid help, being "fun" for volunteers is vital to its future, in my opinion."
In my opinion I do find Wikinews fun. Incredible even. So I hope that I will help Wikinews to continue running well into the future. nzgabriel 08:43, 18 August 2006 (UTC)
Shooting an Elephant source?
editDavodd,
I'm updating the style guide for a different wiki I work on (Congresspedia) and was wondering where you got the six paraphrased writing tips in "Shooting an Elephant (Wikinews:Style guide#Six tips on better writing). Any help would be much appreciated. You can reach me at ckenny AT congresspedia DOT org or at my talk page. Thanks, Conor Kenny

Hi Davodd. I am sorry, I guess that I could have notified you directly on your talk page. Most people watch the articles they create, so writing on the article's talk page is usually enough to get their attention. When I raised my sourcing concerns, I had read the source, but didn't realize I had to watch the video. I also waited nearly eight hours before putting the tag on the article. Lastly, while putting the tag on the article does un-publish the article, it does show up in the newsroom as needing attention. --SVTCobra 09:43, 10 May 2007 (UTC)
- Just for old-times sake, do you remember this article, PepsiCo names Nooyi CEO as Reinemund retires? You slapped multiple dispute tags on it without contacting me on my talk page. --SVTCobra 09:55, 10 May 2007 (UTC)
- Not that they are comparable since more than one writer worked on them - and you must admit that looking at the history that the article was not up to Wikinews quality snuff. But, I do believe I did pitch in and help fix the errors and the article was, indeed published. In all, I think we all learned a lot from the process of writing that article.- -- Davodd | Talk 02:29, 18 May 2007 (UTC)
- Yes, I did learn a lot from that article (you didn't have to be so gracious as to say that you learned from it, too). It was one of my earliest contributions, and I remember the frustration that it kept getting un-published (I wish I could say they were fond memories). I think I have come a long way, and now know how to write an article in way that rarely gets disputed. I think I can properly credit you for some of that development in my writing. On that note, I am sorry that I tagged your article for unsourced statements. As I have mentioned, it came from overlooking the video link. BTW, I noticed in your user page that you are from Indiana, did you attend a school in the Mid-Con (now Summit League)? I was just wondering, because otherwise it is a pretty random article for someone like you to pop in and write. Cheers, --SVTCobra 03:02, 18 May 2007 (UTC)

I cannot believe it
editThe grease is n the spoon this is the whost day ever
The reason I didn't put this in copyvio is that they gave it to us before it was released anywhere else. That being said, they haven't provided original reporting notes so we probably will not be able to publish. Cheers, --SVTCobra 23:39, 9 April 2008 (UTC)
