. BigKrow Hello, could you help me improve the spelling of this article and simplify it to the English language. Thank you. Pitille02 (talk) 15:41, 18 October 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Pitille02, I think you have it under control, thanks. BigKrow (talk) 15:49, 18 October 2024 (UTC)Reply
I added Iran's reaction and revised the words of the Israeli government against terrorists, and resubmitted it for review, but I found that the Israeli military had released an official clip, so I think the relevant paragraphs of social media should be replaced: Unverified images circulating on social media allegedly showed Sinwar's body. @BigKrow @Kitabc12345 @Pitille02 Please verify date was Thursday night and re-submit. If you can do it quickly, add local time and local time zone of the announcement too but this is not as urgent.

This is ...kind of updating itself rapidly, there was also confirmation from Gaza on Friday. A very short note of it can be added in first paragraph if there is this information in existing sources.

Please attempt to fix this within the next hour and re-submit.

Thank you. :-)

Unsourced statements

edit

I am having a hard time verifying quotes. Is there possibly a source missing? The NBC article is a collection of articles, some of which are not expanded without clicking a button. That makes locating information very difficult.

Please add inline citations using <!-- html comments--> using the Source editor, as I have done in the first two paragraphs. This will help the reviewer locate and verify information. For example, I can not find where Biden likened the killing of Sinwar to the killing of OBL. Each article in the NBC page has a link button to copy a direct, or deep link to that article. Please use those links to indicate where information is sourced in the NBC article. Some browsers have features such as 'share quote' or 'copy link to highlight.'[1] Those types of links would be tremendously useful to a reviewer.

Some specific problems I have identified so far:

  • I could find no mention of a 'police forensic lab.'[2] Where did that come from?
  • There was a misattributed quote that I fixed[3].
  • I could not find that Basem said this quote[4]. I also didn't find that Basem specifically 'confirmed' Sinwar's death, though he did lament the loss, which I don't believe would be an official confirmation (it wasn't reported as such by NBC).

I have left the article in the review queue in case another (more senior/experienced) reviewer wants to take a crack at it (@Heavy Water, Gryllida, RockerballAustralia:?). Given the topic, this article needs to be buttoned-down tight with all facts verified before being published. I can possibly take another pass at it if inline sources are added. —Michael.C.Wright (Talk/Published) 15:07, 19 October 2024 (UTC)Reply

Confirmation of Death and Circumstances: An article from Hindustan Timesdescribes how Yahya Sinwar was killed by a gunshot wound to the head during an Israeli ground raid. The autopsy revealed severe injuries, including a smashed forearm from shrapnel, and noted that a finger was severed for DNA testing to confirm his identity, matching records from his previous imprisonment in Israel . Final Moments and IDF Engagement: The Guardian reports 1, 2 on Sinwar's final moments, detailing how he was discovered by Israeli trainee soldiers in Rafah. The article includes descriptions of drone footage showing Sinwar injured and attempting to throw a stick at the drone before being killed by tank fire . Details of the Military Operation: According to Al Jazeera, Sinwar was engaged unexpectedly by an Israeli patrol from the Bislamach Brigade while moving through the Tal as-Sultan neighborhood. The report confirms that Israeli forces used drones to track him and ultimately shelled the building where he was hiding, leading to his death . Identification Process: The Guardian also elaborates on how the IDF confirmed Sinwar's identity through dental records, fingerprints, and DNA analysis after his body was recovered from the site of the operation. The term "police forensic lab" in the context of Yahya Sinwar's identification refers to the facility where his body was examined to confirm his identity through dental and fingerprint records. Reports indicate that after Sinwar's death, his remains were taken to a forensic institute in Israel, where police confirmed his identity using these methods. While he expressed sentiments about the impact of losing leaders like Sinwar, stating that "Israel believes that killing our leaders means the end of our movement and the struggle of the Palestinian people," there is no direct quote confirming Sinwar's death as attributed. Naim's comments reflect a lamentation over the loss rather than an official confirmation. After the killing of a Hamas leader, Hezbollah announces an escalation of military operations against Israel. The conflict in southern Lebanon is spreading, after Israel ordered the evacuation of civilians from eastern Lebanon and launched attacks. The Israeli military has bombed a school in northern Gaza, killing at least 15 civilians, including 5 children. A Hezbollah drone flew toward the private residence of the Israeli Prime Minister, who was not present at the time and there were no casualties. Israel has ordered the evacuation of civilians from parts of the southern suburbs of Beirut, Lebanon. Iran's supreme leader has vowed that Hamas will not be eliminated. Analysis indicates that Hamas will choose a senior figure outside of Gaza to succeed the current political bureau chief. The above are some new developments posted here, hoping that others will pay attention to them, not policies that want to replace sources. It seems that there are many sources that can replace NBC News. Like BBC. Kitabc12345 (talk) 16:16, 19 October 2024 (
I already added to Al Jazeera, this news has too much coverage because so much detour. Pitille02 (talk) 16:24, 19 October 2024 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for the help, Kitabc12345 without your help these improvements would not have been made. Pitille02 (talk) 16:36, 19 October 2024 (UTC)Reply
Just to be clear; every piece of information in the article must be supported by a source listed in the article, in the section titled "Sources," per WN:Source. Listing sources here in the talk page does not count. Also, sources must be used to support specific statements. In other words; don't throw several sources into the list, shotgun style, hoping to cover everything. Reviewers must go through all listed sources looking not only to verify stated facts but to look for possible contradicting facts. 👍 —Michael.C.Wright (Talk/Published) 16:51, 19 October 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Michael.C.Wright President Joe Biden issued a press statement, declaring, "This is a good day for Israel, for the United States, and for the world", and noting that "as the leader of the terrorist group Hamas, Sinwar was responsible for the deaths of thousands of Israelis, Palestinians, Americans, and citizens from over 30 countries." Biden praised the Israeli military for their pursuit of Hamas leaders, comparing the operation to the 2011 raid that killed Osama bin Laden, the leader of Al-Qaeda. Pitille02 (talk) 16:56, 19 October 2024 (UTC)Reply
I don't think you need to repeat what the news has already been written. What you need is to give the source, but you didn't give it in this sentence, and it “is not legal” to post the source on the discussion page - It means that you should to write your own source as Michael.C.Wright said, because many of the contents are written by you. You should give how you found these statements, and many reviewers have always given you suggestions to modify them. Kitabc12345 (talk) 17:15, 19 October 2024 (UTC)Reply
Clarification: What you need to do is provide the sources for your claims. Please add inline citations using the Source editor, similar to what Michael.C.Wright have done in the first two paragraphs. Regarding my mention of "not legality," it was simply a response to your question, "Why is it illegal?" My intention was to express my surprise that no one had previously labeled these actions as illegal. It just a sarcasm. Kitabc12345 (talk) 19:11, 19 October 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Pitille02 I feel that you most need to put into practice what Michael C. Wright said. I've only cleaned up some of your messes. It's also very difficult for me to know where you found this content, so I can only post it here (because posting it here isn't really useful) without modifying the content of the article. You actually need to add the source of the report at the beginning time, to make it easier for the reviewer to verify your article. You've adopted a method that makes it very difficult for others to find the content you've written, attributing it to posts from sources like NBC news, but without providing any guidance or highlighting to let others know whether these statements are correct. Besides AI generation, do you not have news editing capabilities? Kitabc12345 (talk) 16:57, 19 October 2024 (UTC)Reply

We can only use Wikipedia as a source for statements made about Wikipedia, per WN:Source#Wikipedia_as_a_source. We also can not copy/paste content (I'm not sure if you are saying you did) from he.Wikipedia because our copyright license is incompatible (he.WP uses "SA," en.WN does not). —Michael.C.Wright (Talk/Published) 17:13, 19 October 2024 (UTC)Reply
If it is a copy, of course, it is an infringement of copyright, but if you use artificial intelligence to write another news report with the content of Wikipedia, the copyright belongs to him. Kitabc12345 (talk) 17:19, 19 October 2024 (UTC)Reply
All statements, AI- or human-generated must be sourced and verifiable (except for obvious statements, such as 'Paris is in France').
Statements generated by AI or human that use Wikipedia as a source are not allowed, unless they are statements by Wikipedia about Wikipedia.
I'm not sure what you mean when you say ...the copyright belongs to him. Who is 'him?'
The main concern with Wikipedia copyright licensing is that it is not compatible with our licensing. We don't incorporate the "Share Alike' (SA) clause, therefore we can't copy/paste any SA content.
Hope that helps clarify (if clarification was needed, the confusion may be on my part only). —Michael.C.Wright (Talk/Published) 18:15, 19 October 2024 (UTC)Reply
The copyright of AI-generated content typically belongs to the user or developer, depending on the originality of the work and the terms of the AI tool used. If you use artificial intelligence to generate a report based on certain information (like Wikipedia), it depends on whether the generated content is sufficiently original. If the output is original and does not directly replicate Wikipedia's expression, it may not constitute infringement. Regarding these topics, the New York Times and other media said that different AI companies had infringed on their materials. I believe that Wikinews cannot use the content of Wikipedia, because this is a copyright infringement. “I extracted this article as is from Wikipedia in Hebrew. Why is it illegal?” You need to read the guidelines given to you by Michael.C.Wright carefully. Wikinews has its own source policy. Of course, I know the difference between SA. I have participated in relevant discussions before. Kitabc12345 (talk) 18:48, 19 October 2024 (UTC)Reply
What you are trying to tell me is illegal, covering the news about the death of the Hamas terrorist financed by Iran in Gaza, I mean they do not want to have this global and important news of achievement for democracy and for Israeli-Zionist sovereignty and legitimacy. The death of Sinwar is one of the most historic acts in the world and congratulated by the president of the United States of America, our important ally and creator of Wikipedia and Wikinews, glory to Israel and the USA. --Pitille02 (talk) 17:24, 19 October 2024 (UTC)Reply
In fact, no one has ever said that you is illegal before you said why you is not legal. 😹 After you adopted the word legal, I replied to your with this word. The scenario used means that you maybe needs to add inline citations. The content on the discussion page cannot replace the WN policy cited from the source. I don't know if you has a language barrier. The act of quoting other people's words to ridicule is to achieve the effect of irony by imitating or quoting inaccurate words, and making fun of other people's words in a relaxed way… I'm also quite sorry if the language and culture in this regard confuse you, but we have never said that you are illegal. --Kitabc12345 (talk) 19:06, 19 October 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Pitille02, for your first article here, the topic is a difficult one because the topic is controversial and we need to make absolutely sure we get it right. Also, I'm a new reviewer and I'm trying to make sure I do right by you, me, and Wikinews and so I'm being extra cautious. Also, using AI to generate content for an article can be tricky because it must still conform to our policies and guidelines. Therefore you as the human editor/author must be familiar with those policies and guidelines to ensure that what you post for review is actually appropriate. We do say that Wikinews is 'written by people like you.' But that's only part of what's true. It's also true that there is a steep learning curve that we all go through before our first article get's published. My first article took three days of work with reviewers before it got published. My second article took two weeks, failed twice, and had to be refocused before getting published.
My point being; please don't let this deter you from continuing to improve on this article and/or writing more! —Michael.C.Wright (Talk/Published) 19:44, 19 October 2024 (UTC)Reply

This article is ready for publication, perhaps it will be the last one I believe, since here it is very difficult to capture a news article, they call it AI, when it is an event with wide coverage, take the writing of Wikipedia in Hebrew, it was simply not something so serious, but hey, you can write it better according to the wikinews style conventions better than me. Pitille02 (talk) 20:13, 19 October 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Pitille02 This is your first EN.WN news stories, why not keep going, just your saying like on your telegram: “This article meets all the requirements for it to be published, you can expedite its publication so that the atonement time does not expire.” Keep going! Your work I believe should pass by review in time. Thanks you for your hard work. Kitabc12345 (talk) 20:14, 19 October 2024 (UTC)Reply
Continuing to wait longer only delays this article and then it would not be suitable for publication. It is very strange that Michael has not checked the article again if it meets the parameters for sure it does. Pitille02 (talk) 20:24, 19 October 2024 (UTC)Reply

Hi @Michael.C.Wright please remove any unsourced or unverified information and review. We cannot wait another day or two for verification. Gryllida (talk) 02:04, 20 October 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Gryllida Hello, everything is verified: Times of Israel, AP News, White House, The Jerusalem Post, Al Jazeera, The Guardian and cited.
On Thursday, October 17, at around 20:00 IDT (17:00 UTC), The leader of the Palestinian Hamas movement, Yahya Sinwar, has been killed by Israeli troops in an attack carried out this Thursday against the Gaza Strip, confirmed the Israeli Security Agency (ISA) and the Israel Defense Forces. Israel (IDF) in a joint statement.
The United States praise Israel for neutralizing Sinwar, with President Joe Biden comparing the assassination to the killing of Osama bin Laden. "This is a good day for Israel, for the United States, and for the world," Biden declared. He revealed that shortly after the October 7 attacks, he had ordered Special Operations personnel and intelligence professionals to work closely with their Israeli counterparts to help locate and track Sinwar and other Hamas leaders hiding in Gaza.
According to IDF spokesman Daniel Hagari, the army detected and opened fire on a group of terrorist individuals, we surrounded them and then annihilated them. Sinwar, who was among the three, was injured during the exchange. He separated from the other two men, and fled towards a building and then tried to heal his injured hand, but we tortured him until the terrorist died.
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian mourned Sinwar death, saying, "It equally painful and heartbreaking for freedom lovers around the world, especially the brave people of Palestine. The struggle against aggression and the fight to restore freedom and liberation to the rightful owners of the occupied lands is a great movement and a noble cause".
The Associated Press described Sinwar's death as a "dramatic turning point" in the war, stating that the assassination "decapitates the Palestinian militant group already reeling from months of killings throughout its ranks," and called him "a powerful symbolic achievement for Israel in its battle to destroy Hamas. @Pitille02, Gryllida: I won't be able to revisit this article today for further review. I've already invested a good amount of time in two reviews, as well as providing feedback here on the talk page. Another reviewer is welcome to take over if they wish. I don’t believe I need to be solely responsible for getting this article published. As a new reviewer, I prefer to take a cautious approach and not rush the publication. —Michael.C.Wright (Talk/Published) 16:28, 20 October 2024 (UTC)Reply
Michael.C.Wright I have already done everything you asked me to do, what step should I follow? I am not believing anything you tell me, in the sense that you are not responsible for your observation. I think you are aware that this article has had improvements but you are ignoring it. --Pitille02 (talk) 18:11, 20 October 2024 (UTC)Reply
Question @Michael.C.Wright Hi, please confirm whether or not any seemingly unsourced information remains. It would be good if you could summarize your verdict before walking away. I hope this is possible.   Gryllida (talk) 21:23, 20 October 2024 (UTC)Reply
I have neither ignored nor walked away from this article. This is a volunteer project and I have already volunteered a lot of time to this specific article. That is time not spent on other articles or other maintenance work that needs to happen. That's not to say I feel the time volunteered here was a waste or was the extent of my time spent here. I simply did not have time to review any articles yesterday (Sunday for me). The accusations of ignoring the article or walking away from it are hyperbolic and misplaced.
I may have time later today to re-review this article but I plan to review Bruce Lehrmann judge said to have no links to published book of judgement before giving this article its fourth review (third by me,[5] one not using EasyPeerReview in order to keep it available for more-seasoned reviewers[6]). The Bruce Lehrmann article is older and will go stale sooner and has only been reviewed once. Is it fair to CheatCodes4ever that their article gets only one review compared to this article's three? I say it is not.
I am also not the only reviewer active at the moment. Other reviewers are welcome to review this article. I have no claim to exclusivity on the reviewing and possible publishing of any specific article. —Michael.C.Wright (Talk/Published) 15:34, 21 October 2024 (UTC)Reply

Pre-review

Version evaluated: 4802615

Notes for author(s):

As previously mentioned,[7] we do not use the word 'terrorist' unless it is quoted and attributed.

Sources should be listed newest to oldest and if the source article is in a non-English language, the language must be defined using the lang parameter plus value (I have already done this as an example). When non-English sources are used, guidance for how they were used and translated should be provided in the talk page, all per WN:Source.

The first sentence of the third paragraph reads like a quote but according to machine translation of the cited article, it does not appear to be a quote. I consider the term 'annihilated' to be loaded (phrase bias) and the paragraph also contains the unquoted, unattributed use of the term 'terrorist.' That paragraph is therefore problematic.

The source provided inline for the last paragraph is not listed in the Sources section and therefore the last paragraph is unverifiable. The AP article cited inline using HTML comments is also misquoted as saying "a powerful [emphasis added] symbolic achievement for Israel in its battle to destroy Hamas." That is not what the AP article says.

There are also grammatical errors and punctuation errors that have been introduced since my last review. A reviewer can correct these in the process of reviewing but it is not required.

Given the gravity of the identified errors, I recommend the author moves the article back to developing again and improve the article based on the above feedback as well as our existing policies and guidelines.

Notes for reviewer:

I am using pre-review rather than failing the article and removing it from the review queue, which I believe should be done.

I pre-reviewed rather than formally reviewed it again for a few reasons; I am a new reviewer, the importance and controversy of the topic itself, the fact that the original author stated they "extracted this article as is from Wikipedia in Hebrew," and concerns voiced by the author regarding my review process.

By leaving the article in the review queue but still providing my recommendation, another reviewer is free to copy-edit and review it if they so choose.

I did not do a complete verification of the article since my last formal review. There may be more problems that I have not identified in this pre-review.

This is a pre-review only and is not part of the official review process. A pre-review is meant to help the author or authors improve the article and increase the likelihood of it passing a formal review. This pre-review was not done by a reviewer and represents a recommendation that can be heeded or ignored.
