adds two square brackets and makes the inside text in bold if the {{w}} can be converted into hardlinks (I find it more effective that green underlining programme) and for external links, it adds a grey background.

@DannyS712: It looks, from the revision history of the page, as if resourceloader was being systematically added to certain gadgets and not others. There's even one it was removed from. I'm hoping to remember what that was about. What do you know about the history of resourceloader? Do gadgets not run at all without that... and if not, why would we deliberately not have it on some of them? --Pi zero (talk) 12:30, 23 October 2019 (UTC)

Hi, I don't see broken gadgets here. However, there are some gadgets here that have been disabled since 2017. I guess you're asking for these to be re-enabled. I don't feel comfortable doing that as I'm not familiar with the JavaScript I would be deploying to users of this wiki. I would expect a local gadget developer (either sysop or interface admin) to look at individual gadgets's code and based on what users of the wiki are interested in, upgrade them as needed and then enable them. @DannyS712: Off hand, I remember there was a wiktionary-related gadget that didn't work and looked unlikely to be fixable. Probably the hover thing. That may be typical of gadgets that don't have the ResourceLoader thing. Did you have specific gadgets in mind? --Pi zero (talk) 01:56, 24 October 2019 (UTC)

@DannyS712: Re MediaWiki:Gadget-edittop.js. Appears to have been copied here in 2008 by Cirt from meta. That sort of thing has been controversial on en.wn since (afaik) sometime before I arrived, over the license discrepancy. Some fixes were applied in 2015. But meanwhile, the version at meta was modified in 2013 to simply load the en.wp version. And the en.wp version is very different by now. I have no clue whether the gadget would even work, at this point, let alone what bugs there might be in it. Possible actions at this point:

• Leave it disabled.
• Try enabling it, and see if it works.
• Set it up to load from a version somewhere else, as the meta version now does. And then trying enabling it, and see if it works.

I'm not even going to list the option of copying from some other project, because I generally prefer to simply not open that can of worms. --Pi zero (talk) 02:48, 24 October 2019 (UTC)
