After calling the PM's wife "corrupt," Spain expects an apology

Full story: Following Argentina's president's claim that the Spanish prime minister's wife is "corrupt," Spain has requested a public apology.
Javier Milei mentioned Begoña Gómez, the wife of Pedro Sánchez, the prime minister of Spain, at a far-right political gathering in Madrid without naming her.
Last month, prosecutors demanded the dismissal of a preliminary investigation into Ms. Gómez on charges of corruption, claiming the accusations were unfounded.
However, a minister in Argentina has insisted that Spain apologize for previous comments made regarding Mr. Milei, and the government has not offered an apology.
Speaking in Madrid, Mr. Milei attacked "global elites," the perils of socialism, and "the type of people clinging to power and the level of abuse that generates." The event was hosted by Spain's far-right Vox party.
"Let's say it gets dirty when you have a corrupt wife," Mr. Milei said in reference to Ms. Gómez.
A Spanish court began a preliminary investigation into Ms. Gómez in April due to accusations of influence peddling made by an opposition party.
The right-wing anti-corruption group that originated the claims has now admitted that they might not be true, but she has not been prosecuted with anything related to them.
José Manuel Albares, Spain's foreign minister, called out Argentina's ambassador, claiming that Mr. Milei had denigrated Spain and its leader.
He threatened to sever diplomatic ties between Spain and Argentina if no apology was given.
But according to Argentina's Interior Minister Guillermo Francos, "there is no apology" and the Spanish government should take responsibility for the remarks made about Mr. Milei in the past.
Following the election of the far-right government of Argentina, ties between the two nations have cooled, leading to this most recent diplomatic spat.
A Spanish official made allegations earlier this month that the president of Argentina was a drug user. In retaliation, Mr. Milei denounced the "slander and insults" and criticized Pedro Sánchez, the socialist prime minister of Spain, for his policies.
Mr. Milei has a history of altercations with foreign leaders.
He has labeled Andrés Manuel López Obrador, the president of Mexico, as "ignorant" and Inacio Lula da Silva, the president of Brazil, as a "angry communist".

Not sure how stringent our anti-rumoring is, but the thread associated with https://github.com/ventoy/Ventoy/issues/2795#issuecomment-2408830395 is great cause for concern. Moderators have deemed the account probably impersonation, and last actions in known accounts were on June 8: [1] [2]. The latter forum account also shows him visiting the site yesterday. In response to notorious XZ utils backdoor with HongKonger Jia Tan discovered 6 months earlier, members found that Ventoy had open-source but compiled submodules within and asked for them to be normal submodules. Two days ago, the Lemmy account was created and issued a statement that showed no understanding whatsoever of the issue and just blabbered.

Overview of snowstorms in Ashtabula, Ohio
editAshtabula, Ohio, located along the shores of Lake Erie, experiences a variety of winter weather patterns, including significant snowstorms. These storms can profoundly impact the local community, infrastructure, and economy.
Historical Context Ashtabula has a history of winter storms due to its geographical location, which subjects it to lake-effect snow. This phenomenon occurs when cold air moves over the warmer waters of Lake Erie, picking up moisture and depositing it as snow when it reaches the colder land areas.
Notable Snowstorms One of the most significant snowstorms in Ashtabula's history occurred in February 2015, when the region experienced heavy snowfall that led to travel disruptions, school closures, and challenges for emergency services. Snow accumulations reached over 20 inches in some areas, causing power outages and hazardous driving conditions.
Impacts Snowstorms in Ashtabula can lead to various impacts, including:
Transportation Disruptions: Snow-covered roads can make travel dangerous, leading to accidents and delays. Community Services: Snow removal operations are critical during and after a storm to ensure access to essential services. Economic Effects: Local businesses may experience reduced foot traffic during severe weather, impacting sales. Response and Preparedness The city of Ashtabula, along with local agencies, typically prepares for winter storms by:
Monitoring weather forecasts and issuing warnings to residents. Mobilizing snowplows and salt trucks to clear roads. Providing resources and information for residents on how to stay safe during severe weather.
