Talk!

edit

By the way, you can sign your name on Talk pages using four tildes (~~~~), which produces your name and the current date. If you have any questions, you can ask them at the water cooler or to anyone on the Welcommittee, or ask me on my Talk page. Again, welcome! Hey

Thanks for your copyedits to my Health articles lately. Cirt (talk) 21:05, 16 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for fixing that article, I didn't have the time earlier. 72.154.53.153 04:55, 27 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

That's what I do :) Wikidsoup (talk) 16:53, 27 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

I award you the copyeditors barnstar for your excellent copyediting. Anonymous101 :) 06:41, 30 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Hey thanks! Nice to be recognised. Speaking of which, where are all of your barnstars?? Wikidsoup (talk) 19:04, 30 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Images

edit

I'd encourage you to make use of Commons:OTRS to ensure that the images can stay there. If you don't do that, I'd suspect that Commons will delete the images. I think it involves forwarding the e-mail you received, but I am not that familiar with OTRS. Cheers. --SVTCobra 23:56, 11 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for the heads up - I'll do that next time. Those are the first images I've uploaded, so I'm pretty unfamiliar with the process. If the images are deleted I'll see about emailing the source again using the OTRS guidelines. Wikidsoup (talk) 16:49, 12 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Grammar

edit

Hello Wikidsoup, I noticed that on a couple of occasions, you have changed references, such as "a 25-year-old man" to "a 25-year old man". I believe that to be incorrect. After a cusory search for a guide on this, I came up empty. However, I can show you some examples. Here are a BBC News article and a New York Times article, that both demonstrate the use of two hyphens in such compound phrases. Let me know if you still disagree. Cheers, --SVTCobra 22:07, 10 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Yeah, I've looked for a guide before too, unsuccessfully. I remember being taught that "25-year old" was correct in school (in Canada, if that matters), but I see use of the other one all the time, probably more often than my version. So, good point, and I'll just keep to what appears to be the norm. Best to be consistent. Thanks! Wikidsoup (talk) 23:50, 10 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Moving Articles

edit

when you moved that British hacker article you destroyed the opinions page. Thanks, the people who posted there probably didn't give a crap about it. Rekov (talk) 17:54, 31 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

First of all, sarcasm isn't very constructive. I would be sorry if I had destroyed the opinions page, however it appears to be there. Also, if you look on the collaboration page you'll see mention of a javascript bug, which may be the issue you experienced. Wikidsoup (talk) 20:31, 31 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Sighting

edit

Please remember to sight articles you publish. Otherwise they will not show up and effectively become lost. --ShakataGaNai ^_^ 20:04, 15 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

Hi Wikidsoup. In addition to your usual copyediting, do you think you have time to do a verification of the events and times in the latter part of the article. It has been suggested that what we have in our article are the times that events were scheduled and not when they occurred. Cheers, --SVTCobra 23:45, 20 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Done ... decided to just list in EST, as opposed to EST & GST as it was before. I'm no expert on time formats, so please feel free to modify if they aren't right. Wikidsoup (talk) 00:19, 21 January 2009 (UTC)Reply
Thanks so much. You are truly efficient. Cheers, --SVTCobra 00:22, 21 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Zimbabwe abandons currency

edit

Hello. Please don't forget to sight articles after you publish them, otherwise they will not appear on the main page. This article did not appear on the main page until I sighted it. Thanks,  ♪TempoDiValse♪  21:47, 29 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Thanks ... that's the second time I've done that! I even checked for it ... but there didn't seem to be the normal sighting option that there usually is ... I'll get it one of these times :) Wikidsoup (talk) 21:57, 29 January 2009 (UTC)Reply
Do you know why it doesn't automatically sight, like it does for most changes? Wikidsoup (talk) 21:58, 29 January 2009 (UTC)Reply
I'm not sure why it doesn't auto-sight ... something to ask at the water cooler, perhaps?  ♪TempoDiValse♪  22:15, 29 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

How dare you!

edit

You have removed the mainstream medical view from the lead of my article, and replaced it with nothing. I provided four background sources, but was tiold they were unnecessary,. then you come along and turn an accurate description of homeopathy - criticism of it appears in EVERY. SINGLE. SOURCE. into soe fact-free statement that it's merely a form of alternative medicine.

This was my first article, and if this isn't fixed, shall be my last. Adam Cuerden (talk) 20:10, 8 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

I replaced your description of homeopathy as 'quackery' by using the term 'controversial'. Only one of the sources for the article used the term 'quackery', and that article didn't seem to mention homeopathy. Furthermore, it is not our job to perpetuate a POV just because it's in one of our sources. Wikidsoup (talk) 21:12, 8 May 2009 (UTC)Reply
Aha, a source has been added now. Much better. Wikidsoup (talk) 21:35, 8 May 2009 (UTC)Reply
The sources were there originally, I was told that background sources should be removed. Ah, well, it would appear this was all just a big misunderstanding, so never mind. Adam Cuerden (talk) 21:53, 8 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

Busy elsewhere? We understand, but this is a notice of privilege expiry!

Note! Your privileges on English Wikinews have been reduced.

Under the Privilege expiry policy (enacted October 13, 2012) the rights held by your user account have been reduced due to inactivity, or lack of privilege use. You can view your user rights log here.
Point 4 of the Privilege expiry policy provides for fast-tracking reacquisition of privileges. We all understand that real-life commitments can severely curtail the level of commitment you can give to Wikinews; the privilege reduction is in no way intended as a reflection on your past work, or to imply you are unwelcome. The aim in curtailing privileges is to address security risks, and concern that a long period of inactivity means you may not be up-to-date with current policy and practices.
