Welcome edit

Theo Assen, welcome to Wikinews! I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are a few good links for newcomers:

Our key policies - if you read anything, read these!

Here a few pointers to help you get to know Wikinews:

There are always things to do on Wikinews:

By the way, you can sign your name on Talk pages using four tildes (~~~~), which produces your name and the current date. If you have any questions, you can ask them at the water cooler or to anyone on the Welcommittee, or ask me on my Talk page. Again, welcome! --Skenmy(tcw) 18:44, 15 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Re: Question about sources edit

Welcome! It is permissable to use dutch language sources, just so long as you use more than one. We don't normally allow articles that are based on a single source unless they are accompanied by Original Reporting, or are a Breaking News story, in which case details are posted on the talk page. Try use Google News (http://news.google.com/ or http://news.google.nl/) to find other sources. --Skenmy(tcw) 18:53, 15 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Ok, thanks a lot for the info. Theo Assen - (talk) 18:54, 15 February 2008 (UTC)Reply
Also, as a sidenote, it is not generally advisable to {{publish}} your own work. Tag it as {{ready}} and another editor will review it, check for NPOV, styling, formatting, etc, and publish it :) --Skenmy(tcw) 18:55, 15 February 2008 (UTC)Reply
Oh, ok, I think the Wikinews:Writing an article page is in error then, it states: "Once your article meets all the above requirements, replace the {{Develop}} tag with the {{Publish}} tag to "publish" your article. This will automatically list your article on the Main Page." Theo Assen - (talk) 18:58, 15 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Your article edit

Okay, thanks for clearing that up. Skenmy (talk · contribs) seems to have dealt with all of my concerns, so there is no problem. Your article has been published. Have a nice day. --GW_SimulationsUser Page | Talk 22:12, 15 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Thanks! Theo Assen - (talk) 22:13, 15 February 2008 (UTC)Reply
Goed werk!

Operett(e/a) edit

Oh, no problem. In fact, you'll find that "operette" and "operetta" are homophones anyway, probably why we changed spellings. :) Also, what does "raus" mean in "Heesters Raus"? TheCustomOfLife - (talk) 09:09, 16 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Okay, I asked someone else as well and they said the same thing. I figured it'd be useful to English speakers to have the translation as well, and I added it to the article. TheCustomOfLife - (talk) 09:15, 16 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Demonstrations in Belgrade edit

May you come to IRC, I am close to the area of demonstrations in Belgrade. --millosh (talk) 19:36, 21 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

My gtalk/jabber is millosh@gmail.com. Under influence of tear gas (low, but still constant) I am not so able to write well in English about events. So, I need someone's help and I see that you are interested... If you have some other messenger client, I may use it. --millosh (talk) 19:44, 21 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

I am ok, but it is obvious that I am confused... I answered on my talk page. So, my screen name on yahoo is "millosh". --millosh (talk) 19:55, 21 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

I would like to thank our users who have helped increase our level of Original Reporting content. Some users who I think have been especially helpful are Leila Monaghan (talk · contribs) who has got interviews despite being a very new user and BrockF5 (talk · contribs) who has continued to provide us with excellent reports and images. In addition, Brianmc (talk · contribs) has been helpful in combatting vandalism. --Anonymous101 (talk · contribs) 19:47, 19 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Editor's note

In the last few months activity on Wikinews has continued to decrease to an incredibly low level. There are hardly any new contributers joining and one of our best users, DragonFire1024 (talk · contribs) has gone on Wikibreak. However, some excellent articles are continuing to be written.
