Can you please explain your reasoning behind the "cleanup" tab that you put on the article New lead in Madeleine McCann case. ATC incident article

Hi, regarding the ATC incident article that was suspected as a copyvio (since, I've now seen, discovered not to be) but replaced anyway with my rewrite by yourself, you mention that this was all per a descision made in an IRC conversation... I wonder if you could run me through the main points of how that progressed, as I'm obviously an interested party (Just a quick list, it's more curiosity than anything, don't worry about every single detail! If you've spent more than five minutes repying you've far exceeded what I require.). If not, fair dos, but if you can, that would be great and really apreciated! Questions for the Wikipedia Signpost

Hi! My name is Ral315, and I'm the editor-in-chief of the Wikipedia Signpost, a weekly newspaper on the English Wikipedia. I'm sending out an optional questionnaire that I hope you'll respond to. These questions will be published in next week's issue, and hopefully translated into many languages and copied to the Meta-Wiki prior to the election. (So, if you speak multiple languages, it'd be fantastic, though certainly not required, if you'd be willing to translate your answers into any languages you speak fluently.)

There's no word limit on any of these questions, but I suggest that brevity (maybe about 300-400 words per answer) is best. If at all possible, answers should be submitted by 16:00 UTC on Monday, June 25 (though late responses will also be accepted).

I'm posting these to your talk pages because they don't really fit well on question pages (since many will repeat questions you've already answered). You can reply to me by e-mail, or at my English Wikipedia, English Wikinews or Meta talk pages.

   The Board needs to take more interest in the smaller projects and not ignore individual project needs. I hope to change that.

   As much as possible

1. Ideally, where do you see the Wikimedia Foundation in 5 years?

   The biggest provider of free information on the web.

1. As a board member, how will you ensure a balance between openness and necessary privacy in board matters?

   By allowing Board minutes to be public whenever possible.

1. Recent discussion has centered around the Wikipedia and Wikimedia brands. How do you feel the Wikimedia brands should be used, or changed?

   We should use them in a way that we can get money for them but alos in a way that raises awareness about our organization being free to use, edit, and read.

1. Wikimedia projects in developing nations are growing in popularity, but still lag far behind the more popular projects. What steps would you suggest to improve the quality, readership, and number of editors on smaller wikis?

   We do not advertise the Wikimedia foundation enough or its individual projects. We need to raise awareness that these projects exist and they are as free as the rest of the WMF projects.

1. What do you feel should be done to increase participation on non-Wikipedia projects?

   Well for starters, more advertisement of existing projects on other existing projects. Maybe a little outside advertisement such as a YouTube video that UCLA made about the Berkeley Open Infrastructure for Network Computing, or BOINC].

1. As a board member, what strategies would you consider to raise money for the Foundation?

   Longer, more publicized fund-raisers, grant options as there are many in the US, AN EXAMPLE ONLY: adding an outside/external search engine or something that a company would pay WMF to use on their projects.

1. What else do you want to say to voters? (This is a good place to answer a question specific to your candidacy that you think should be answered)

   The board need diversity. We have lawyers and professionals already. The board has lost its touch with time and needs to be more of a "everyday people" Board. Our contributers are mostly that: everyday people with everyday lives. We (the various projects) also need to work more together as opposed to trying to compete with each other. Our goals are the same, to provide free information to the world, and I also think that means efficiently and collaboratively.

Recent image uploads

In future please upload any free images to Commons. Doing so allows them to be used on other Wikimedia projects and they can be better organised. It also makes it easier for foreign language Wikinews projects, for example, to find images to use in their stories. Uploading free images to Wikinews is deprecated, you'll note in bold text on Special:Upload it says Please upload all images under a free licence to Wikimedia Commons. I would suggest you do this. Regarding your reply on my talk page, thanks for getting back to me. I'm slightly surprised that you, as a Wikinews admin would take this approach, especially considering your Wikimedia board candidacy. It seems to me that an image is very unlikely without good reason so for you to upload your images here to try and avoid deletion seems unconstructive. Surely it would be better to address the concerns raised. Looking at your Commons talk page I notice you have been informed of at least some deletions and in those cases where you haven't you can of course discuss it with the admin responsible.

It may be useful for the purposes of this discussion if you gave me the names of some of the images deleted which prompted you to begin uploading free images here.

When I get chance, I work through the free image categories here and on other projects and move appropriate images to Commons so your recent uploads will probably end up there anyway. Adambro 16:04, 22 June 2007 (UTC)

BTW, would you agree that we need to clean up and compile the OR notes on the collaboration page for Death of Nancy Benoit rumour posted on Wikipedia hours prior to body being found? Thank you. Could you explain your stance on the image resolution? If I understand correctly, it is "Allow fair use, although free content is preferable." This basically sums it up: Let me just clarify: Not all projects are drastically or in some cases slightly changed by the resolution. It would seem that the resolution favors a few projects over others, (new addition ->) and the resolution did not take into effect it would have of some projects. It should be conformed to fit the needs of each project, it does not. The definition of free was written by a board member, which is writing "free" as he sees it, and is basically his POV of free. Deletion Request

What should we do about your images in DR? It's been quite sometime, and they're still there (I never got anything back...). Counting the bold it's looks to be keep, but adambro wants us to count comments as well... terinjokes | Talk 07:51, 9 July 2007 (UTC)

Comments are not votes IMO. these Images have been around for over a year. They didn't have a poblem then, and they shouldn't now. I know what my rights are towards them, and I am going to continue defending them. I am not going to relisence something that is a photo, taken during a public hearing/meeting, of city officials, the press, and developers and the public. And quite honestly, this debate is getting old. If they are such a significant problem, then get rid of them. I certainly am not going to sit down and take the time to write out a fiar use rational for them especially after this long. DragonFire1024 (Talk to the Dragon) 18:09, 9 July 2007 (UTC)
