Carleson continues to be in the news: Wall street Journal, ny times and MSNBC reports suggest that Fox may have wanted him out because he was a drag on the company’s bottom line and not because of what happened in the Dominion trial.
Some news snippets I have watched on TV said that the ad revenue for his show was not as large as some thought it was since most of it came from one source: the pillow guy. Apparently Carleson was too controversial for most large advertisers. There is also talk of allegations of a toxic workplace environment on his show, which may bring about more lawsuits against Fox.
If the above is true, it may mean that Fox will continue to pursue the same kind of narrative they have pursued in the past, and will wipe out speculation that Fox intends to shift reporting more to the center and away from fringe right, thereby opening up business opportunities for other fringe right media
Eh, Carlson drove ratings up by stirring up fake outrage. Fox News made tons of money running ads on his show. I do agree that the upcoming lawsuits are more of a factor than the settled Dominion case. In the end, however, I think it is the text messages about how he didn't believe anything he was saying on his show which caused Rupert Murdoch to descend from high above to force him out. Wait, maybe Murdoch ascended from Down Under to do it. Either way, my gut feeling is Murdoch got tired of Carlson and said bye-bye.
