OR notes edit

Significant personal accounts with pizero comes from our discussion that happened over IRC. I will be sharing that with reviewer via wn-reporters or IRC whichever method is fine.

Messages for Pi edit

I was sorry to hear about this. Pi zero and I may have had disagreements, but I respected their work and dedication to the projects and their loss will be felt. DannyS712 (talk) 16:34, 26 February 2021 (UTC)Reply

Courtesy note - crosswiki translation made edit

Hi all, just a courtesy note that I partially translated this article to eo.WN - I did not have time to translate everything, but it contains all the key information: wikilink. I'm saddened to hear of John's passing. Audrey (talk) 15:32, 27 February 2021 (UTC)Reply

Punctuation and grammar questions edit

1. Shouldn't there be a second comma? - His mother, Elsie Shutt[,] had called 9-1-1 emergency services[...].
2. By the time the ambulance came, Dr Shutt was unconscious. - Why not "had been unconcious"?
3. Ms Barbara Shutt also added the doctors operated on him for two hours[...] - Why not "had been operating"? The action mentioned had happened clearly before the speaker's remark.--Adûnâi (talk) 17:48, 2 March 2021 (UTC)Reply

1. there should be no comma, see wn:appositive' 2. and 3. in newsspeak, it is well-known the events took place before the speaker's remarks, so we don't complicate the tenses. This may seem odd to people who aren't used to news writing, but each style of writing has their conventions.

Sad edit

I am so deeply saddened by this. Dude was an absolute ROCK on this project. Outsiders would never truly know the degree to which he was the glue around here......seriously. I'm probably just speaking too quickly.......but not quite sure about my continuing involvement here. Frankly, I find many people in the Wiki-verse to be deeply annoying......truly.....but: not him. He (whether he knew it, or not) was a profound mentor for me on this project. RIP, John.....you made a lasting impression on me, sir.....I mean that. --Bddpaux (talk) 19:04, 3 March 2021 (UTC)Reply

(from WB) I concur, he was a great mentor for me as well. It seems like it only was a day ago when Pi zero left me a message on my talk page in regards to a Wikijunior book I started in early 2015. It only got better from there as his unique insight was nothing short of eye-opening (to see for yourself, see here for his views on AGF). An absolute pillar of both the Wikibooks and Wikinews community... and as Justin puts it: It really isn't a terrible exaggeration to say that he was single-handedly leading both projects' development (see discussion on WB in regards to John's death). Life has been absolutely chaotic the last 3 years, especially since the pandemic... hearing this didn't make it any better. Atcovi (talk) 18:52, 4 March 2021 (UTC)Reply

Condolences edit

I added a condolences section on his talk page. Check it out. TheFurreterPress (talk) 16:58, 11 March 2021 (UTC)Reply

Good bye edit

I have been inactive on wikimedia for a while, but when I checked in and looked up old friends... Well, suffice to say you'll be missed. Thenub314 (talk) 20:28, 31 August 2021 (UTC)Reply

Edit edit

{{editprotected}} Ouch. Perhaps a {{correction}} is needed: see his user rights log, which makes clear he became a reviewer in August 2009 (as one would expect since no one on en.wn has ever become an admin before becoming a reviewer while modern peer review existed). Heavy Water (talk) 23:12, 24 April 2023 (UTC)Reply

@Heavy Water: I think I have written that. From the review log, it seems that he made his first review action in August 2009. Maybe a veteran could lighten us up about this. The request is valid. - Xbspiro (talk) 01:25, 25 April 2023 (UTC)Reply
