I think this article should also discuss security at all airports around the world, not just on high-risk passengers. Benny the mascot (talk) 03:01, 4 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

I have changed the article to reflect world changes in airport security Cocoaguytalkcontribs 04:00, 4 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

BAA aren't the British Airport Authority. They are a private company, BAA Limited, which only operate a number of the busiest airports in the UK. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 80.176.227.174 (talk) 13:33, 6 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

What the IP said above was correct (though note Wikipedia says BAA sold off all its possessions but Heathrow by 2012, and is now Heathrow Airport Holdings). I think "airport authority of the United Kingdom" suggests a government regulator overseeing all airports (interestingly, Wikipedia says BAA was a government entity, British Airports Authority, until Thatcher privatized it). Perhaps a correction is necessary? Heavy Water (talk) 16:10, 20 July 2023 (UTC)Reply
Yeah, this is problematic and not an easy fix. SVTCobra 23:04, 30 December 2023 (UTC)Reply
Hi Heavy Water a correction may be needed. asked here here 😊 Gryllida (talk) 07:32, 5 December 2024 (UTC)Reply
What is now called "Heathrow Airport Holdings" (HAH) was still part of BAA plc in 2010, the date of the news item. BAA was bought in 2006 by Ferrovial, which now owns HAH as well as the operators of the Gatwick, Stansted, Southampton, Aberdeen, Glasgow and Edinburgh airports. I don't think it is correct that BAA sold off all its possessions. The split of BAA into separate airport operators, some still owned by Ferrovial, probably occurred after 2010, but since HAH was formed in 2012 no later than 2012. Just replace "the airport authority of the United Kingdom" by "which operates six major airports in the United Kingdom". 2A02:A46B:971E:1:6963:E504:E80A:255D (talk) 08:59, 5 December 2024 (UTC)Reply
Can you say this again considering only what was the status at time of publishing, and ignore the future of it, please? Gryllida (talk) 10:01, 5 December 2024 (UTC)Reply
BAA plc was bought by Ferrovial in 2006. At that moment it operated the Heathrow, Gatwick, Southampton, Stansted, Edinburgh, Glasgow and Aberdeen airports. By 2010, Gatwick had been sold off, leaving six airports under BAA ownership at the date of publication. (Wikipedia states that Stansted was sold in 2009, but that is incorrect. It was only sold in 2013, when the airport was acquired by Manchester Airports Group.) 2A02:A46B:971E:1:B4A8:D975:CBF1:200 (talk) 03:33, 6 December 2024 (UTC)Reply
maybe correction
"The article previously included a note that BAA is British Airports Authority, which is incorrect. BAA is private company "BAA Limited" and is not a governmental organization." Gryllida (talk) 10:41, 17 December 2024 (UTC)Reply
