Why? edit

Why do we have him as "Kevin Johnson (politician)" when we have no other "Kevin Johnson"? Weird.--SVTCobra 03:04, 4 August 2019 (UTC)Reply

Afaics, all our articles are from when this person was mayor of Sacramento. The category was created, under its current name, in 2014 by Blood Red Sandman (who has been a major force in our category infrastructure over the years). At the time en.wp's article was called "Kevin Johnson", and remained under that name until earlier this year when it was disambiguated to Kevin Johnson (basketball). --Pi zero (talk) 04:00, 4 August 2019 (UTC)Reply
OK. But that almost makes it weirder that ours has the "(politician)" ... Unless, of course, BRS was thinking "It can't possibly be the same guy as that basketballer" which would be funny. Anyway, it doesn't really matter. Cheers, --SVTCobra 04:12, 4 August 2019 (UTC)Reply
On the flip side, I dislike Wikipedia's habit of choosing one out of a set of same-named articles to not take a disambig suffix. It builds biases into the encyclopedia. Somewhere around here we have an ancient proposed category policy, that says we should not choose between like-named geocats, but qualify both of them (such as Georgia (country) and Georgia (U.S. state)). [I think that's what it said.] --Pi zero (talk) 05:33, 4 August 2019 (UTC)Reply
Yes, I can see that. It's like picking which "John Doe" is more important. Oh, the bus driver is more important, so he can be the 'real' John Doe and you other guys can be John Doe (plumber) and John Doe (astronaut). But speaking of these weird biases, I have looked at hundreds of Wikidata pages now over the last couple of weeks, and I'm beginning to think, the lower your Q number is, the more important you are in the eyes of Wikidata. But again, that probably just boils down to the same thing as on Wikipedia: Which one was created first? And as it is all volunteer type stuff, the most famous get entered first. Yeah, it's clearly just order of creation. Idk whether they reuse numbers when some get deleted, or just keep going up. But some of the low numbers say some pretty strange things about their priorities, if you interpret them that way. --Pi zero (talk) 06:22, 4 August 2019 (UTC)Reply
I started poking around in the super-low number. Q1 is universe, Q2 is earth ... and Q13 is triskaidekaphobia, so obviously somebody had a sense of humor. Cheers, --SVTCobra 07:04, 4 August 2019 (UTC)Reply
Haha nice word.. Gryllida (talk) 10:24, 4 August 2019 (UTC)Reply
