Problematic article choice

edit

I suggest it would be best not to include the 'China ends retaliation' article here.

That article was published in violation of policy, without being properly reviewed. If I'd been thinking as fast as I should have at the time, I'd have depublished it immediately; but since I didn't do so immediately, I'm just going to have to vet it thoroughly (when I get to it), and whatever problems I find will have to be dealt with by a {{correction}} notice. (Until this unpleasant incident, we hadn't issued one of those in many months.)

Had I already vetted that article, we could incorporate any corrections into the brief. --Pi zero (talk) 12:08, 6 April 2012 (UTC)Reply

Brazzaville audio

edit

Pi, I would like to tack this portion of my interview with Dr. Kalu on to the end with a link to the Brazzaville article. I would rerecord the opener to set the interview into the context of the show. This is a new initiative: To introduce other speakers into the program, reporters or guests.Crtew (talk) 17:38, 7 April 2012 (UTC)Reply

I'll be adding the transcript, if it is ok'd.Crtew (talk) 17:49, 7 April 2012 (UTC)Reply

Well, some thoughts.
  • The quality of the audio (Dr. Kalu's side) is pretty low, so certainly a transcript would be wanted to go with it.
  • I'm willing to see this included.
  • One wonders how much of a change to the article this would entail. A change to the lede, surely. Probably an OR tag. At the extreme, should the headline change? (I don't have an answer for that one, hence the question mark.) I haven't been making the briefs leads, but I wonder about what this would become.

RSS Feed

edit

Pi, The audience figures are growing slowly, but I would like to suggest that we put the RSS feed button on this page to see if we can't use that technique to grow a dedicated following. Do you agree? Crtew (talk) 17:38, 7 April 2012 (UTC)Reply

I lack the expertise to answer well. --Pi zero (talk) 20:01, 7 April 2012 (UTC)Reply

Question

edit

We didn't have a photo of the Japanese ship in the original article. I placed it here. But I wanted to ask you about the Wikimedia Commons discussion of the photo. What is our policy when there is a dispute? Crtew (talk) 17:41, 7 April 2012 (UTC)Reply

My first recommendation would be to ask... various people who aren't around to ask atm.
My second would be to omit the image. It's attached to a script after all; the audio is the primary product here, with the script in a support role. We don't like in any case to use an image that's likely to be deleted, and if we wanted to do so the question would be whether we could claim fair use, of the idiosyncratic Wikinews variety, and upload it locally (preferably, I think, before Commons finished deciding to delete it, though I'd ruther leave rants about Commons treatment of Wikinews to someone whose knowledge is more first-hand). Nor am I enough into that stuff to easily address the merits or demerits of the case for deleting the particular image on Commons. --Pi zero (talk) 18:22, 7 April 2012 (UTC)Reply

Original and notes to the reviewer

edit

I interviewed Dr. Kelechi Kalu, director, Center for African Studies, The Ohio State University on March 29, 2012. I used a quote from the interview and background within the Brazzaville article. This portion of the audio I saved for just such an occasion as extra material.Crtew (talk) 03:39, 8 April 2012 (UTC)Reply
