Policy on orphaned talk/collab pages

While reviewing my watch list, I noticed that the talk pages for some deleted articles still exist. Is it our policy to retain these old talk pages? When I began marking them for deletion, I observed that previous deletions often cited "only contributor was UserX" as the reason. So I wondered if we only delete the talk page if they were essentially unused.

I've marked several orphaned talk pages for deletion. If they should be kept, I can go through and undo those changes.[1], [2], [3], [4], [5], [6], [7] Michael.C.Wright (Talk/Published) 14:25, 14 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

No, we delete them, and orphaned comments pages too. "Only contributor was User foo" isn't the reason; I think it's just something MediaWiki appends whenever a page that's being deleted has only been edited by one user. Heavy Water (talk) 18:25, 14 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Additional Checkusers and maybe patrollers

We need additional Checkusers. I recently submitted a local request that was not answered. I then submitted a request to Meta, and was told the local request has to be "inactive to the extent that there is no response despite leaving a post on the checkuser's talkpage." I've emailed our two Checkusers (the request includes both named and IP accounts, hence an email) but one clearly states on their talk page they are semi-retired, leaving just one.

Also, with the new Temporary Accounts project slowly rolling out, we'll need more accounts with the ability to investigate IP:account abuse and patrollers may be a way to do so with minimal privileges added. Michael.C.Wright (Talk/Published) 13:24, 23 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

For what it's worth, I'm already a CU on species and if it were necessary, I'd be willing to be one here. —Justin (koavf)TCM 14:17, 23 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
And, further for what its worth: I've nominated myself for CU. I'd appreciate support from both of you.--Bddpaux (talk) 18:52, 23 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I would happily be a patroller, if so needed. I wouldn't be comfortable, and I doubt the community would consent to me, being a CU, given my relatively short span of activity on Wikinews. A.S. Thawley (talk) (calendar) 18:37, 24 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
