  • don't put ur name into articles
  • sources don't say she was fired

Welcome edit

Thelilnewsdude, welcome to Wikinews! I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are a few good links for newcomers:

Our key policies - if you read anything, read these!

Here a few pointers to help you get to know Wikinews:

There are always things to do on Wikinews:

By the way, you can sign your name on Talk pages using four tildes (~~~~), which produces your name and the current date. If you have any questions, you can ask them at the water cooler or to anyone on the Welcommittee, or ask me on my Talk page. Again, welcome!–Doldrums(talk) 21:36, 11 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

where did you get it from? if it available online, it is better to link to the publisher's website than upload a copy here on Wikinews.

Lady Bird edit

Please slow down, you are creating edit conflicts. THIS IS FROM CNN does not count as a source, and and ading information like that will get you blocked. Thank you for breaking this story. --Wpktsfs 21:57, 11 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

MSNBC is a source and will be used, also, we do not promote other news agencies. --Wpktsfs 22:01, 11 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

MSNBC is where I got it from, the Johnson family did not call you so it is not original reporting. Please slow down. --Wpktsfs 22:04, 11 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

It is not your article, it is in the mainspace, it is owned by everyone that contributes, period. Articles are not owned. Also, I have been able to back it up, one source is better than none. Please sign your comments. --Wpktsfs 22:07, 11 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Wikinews readers rely on being able to verify news stories by checking the sources we list. so we make an effort to use sources which are easy to access. "Thelilnewsdude saw it on CNN" is not easy to access or verify, so we prefer to use the many online news sources that've now started to report on this story. if there is info you added to the article that is not stated in the sources added, feel free to add other sources that do state the info, or in the worst case remove the info if an adequate source is not found.
more broadly, i appreciate your enthusiasm in contributing to wikinews, but i also strongly urge you to take a little while to read the introductory links above, look at a few published articles to get the hang of how we do things here - not all of it is obvious or unneccessary.
Wikinews is a collaborative project and we need to work together to make it go well. u getting pissed off for being reverted all the time or me getting pissed off because articles are published you think are ok but i know fail our policies will not help. best, –Doldrums(talk) 22:10, 11 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

I would like to apologize for the fact that we got in a little edit war. I am very happy that you broke the news to me, before I even got my CNN message on my mobile. Perhaps I did not explain policy clear enough during the timeframe of our discussion. We are not here to bash one another, but rather to create a free news source and learn from one another. I would like to start fresh, and look forward to editing other articles with you in the future. Wishes, --Wpktsfs 22:27, 11 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

any more reverts edit

and u can spend the nextfew hours blocked to give you time to familiarize urself reading policies and guidelines with Wikinews. –Doldrums(talk) 22:12, 11 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Titles edit

Adding comments like "finally" to article titles is not serious. I understand that because we are possibly all overwhelming you with these you might feel offended, but cool down and try to be serious our you will be re-blocked. Read WN:NPOV and WN:SG before making more changes, they are key policies here. --Steven Fruitsmaak (Reply) 22:20, 11 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Our guidelines on headlines state that you shouldn't use camelcase, but downstyle capitalisation (not Chicago Transit Authority Announces Blue and Red Line Repairs but Chicago Transit Authority announces Blue and Red Line repairs). --Steven Fruitsmaak (Reply) 23:40, 11 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Image:Amyjacobson.jpg edit

Hi,

if you want to use images, we need:

  1. A link to where you found the image
  2. A reason why this image, if copyrighted, should constitute fair use and not be a copyright violation

If not the policies allow us to delete it without further warning.

Some more advise edit

Hi again,

you're new, so please try to avoid {{publish}}ing things that might not be ready. You can just add {{ready}}, and a friendly user with more experience on this wiki will come along, make some finishing touches and publish the article in an acceptable fashion. There's no point: they will be unpublished if not ready, they appear below on the main page even without a {{publish}}, and you'll put stories that aren't ready yet on the main page.

See also: Wikinews:Publish checklist.

--Steven Fruitsmaak (Reply) 23:45, 11 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

I rolled back your edits. Not sure why you removed the wiki-links, but the old projects do not belong in the story. --SVTCobra 23:47, 11 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Why are you reverting my edits? If you want to re-add certain information, or change the picture back, fine. But don't do so by overwriting other peoples contributions. --SVTCobra 23:54, 11 July 2007 (UTC)Reply
This is Wikinews, you do not own the article. Your section on "slow zones" is hard to understand. The terminology is unfamiliar to me and I am sure it is to most readers. And what is the source for this information? If it is unsourced I will have to remove it again. --SVTCobra 02:18, 12 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hi again. I wish you would pay a little more respect to the editorial process and not re-publish articles until all of the issues have been addressed. Thanks, --SVTCobra 01:13, 13 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

What I mean is this: This article was tagged for cleanup, with several reasons listed. You took it upon yourself to republish this article and removing the tag after fixing only one thing. The process is if an editor says the article is unpublishable for reasons x,y, and z; then x, y, and z should be fixed before republishing. If you feel that one or more of x, y, and z are not valid reasons, then it needs to be discussed on the collaboration page. OK? P.S. don't forget to sign your comments. --SVTCobra 16:49, 13 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Images edit

We cannot use images from other news organisations per WN:FU, such images can be deleted on-sight by administrators. Adambro 16:39, 13 July 2007 (UTC)Reply
