Welcome edit

Shunpiker, welcome to Wikinews! I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are a few good links for newcomers:

Our key policies - if you read anything, read these!

Here a few pointers to help you get to know Wikinews:

There are always things to do on Wikinews:

By the way, you can sign your name on Talk pages using four tildes (~~~~), which produces your name and the current date. If you have any questions, you can ask them at the water cooler or to anyone on the Welcommittee, or ask me on my Talk page. Again, welcome! Jason Safoutin 02:16, 28 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

El Salvador elects leftist president Funes edit

Hi and thanks for your contribution of this article. It has now been published. One comment, I would like to make, is don't add as many sources as you can find. Add only those that you use. It doesn't add much to the credibility of the story and only makes the reviewer's job harder. Cheers, I hope to see more articles from you. --SVTCobra 23:43, 16 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

The template says 2-3 days. Thats why sorry,! But if you want to still get this published it maybe a bit late09akoguc (talk) 19:59, 30 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

Source requiring registration [1]? edit

Are you sure it requires registration? I can read the full NYT article, and I'm not subscribed. Tempodivalse [talk] 19:22, 15 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

Yes, but I don't even have an account with NYT - never did. You mean to say you can't even read the article? That's strange. I can read the whole thing. Tempodivalse [talk] 19:48, 15 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

That is very odd. I've never had such issues when citing that website before. Strange. Tempodivalse [talk] 20:00, 15 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

Replies to your questions edit

1) Is there something I can do in-line to bring attention to assertions in an article which I cannot trace to the sources?

There isn't any specific template for it, like WP does. However, you can simply make a note of what you could not verify on the article's talk page, and fail the review, marking the article with {{tasks|re-review}}.

2) How much cleanup can you do on an article before you disqualify yourself as an "uninvolved" reviewer?

There's no written rule on this, it's really up to the reviewer's judgement. If you only do copyediting (i.e. grammar fixes, formatting, etc.) then you can probably still count as an uninvolved editor. If you significantly add to the story's content, though (like adding paragraph or two), that might already disqualify you from reviewing the article.

Hope this helped. Tempodivalse [talk] 19:48, 15 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

Thanks, just the kind of guidance I was looking for. --Shunpiker (talk) 19:59, 15 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

privs edit

Busy elsewhere? We understand, but this is a notice of privilege expiry!

Note! Your privileges on English Wikinews have been reduced.

Under the Privilege expiry policy (enacted October 13, 2012) the rights held by your user account have been reduced due to inactivity, or lack of privilege use. You can view your user rights log here.
Point 4 of the Privilege expiry policy provides for fast-tracking reacquisition of privileges. We all understand that real-life commitments can severely curtail the level of commitment you can give to Wikinews; the privilege reduction is in no way intended as a reflection on your past work, or to imply you are unwelcome. The aim in curtailing privileges is to address security risks, and concern that a long period of inactivity means you may not be up-to-date with current policy and practices.
