Accreditation request edit

I noticed you closed my accreditation request and moved it to the archive. However, I am not listed at Wikinews:Credential verification yet. Could you either put me up there or move my accreditation request back to Wikinews:Accreditation requests? Thanks! Van der Hoorn (talk) 09:11, 16 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

Could you please respond? Thanks. Cheers, Van der Hoorn (talk) 09:02, 22 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

A penny for your thoughts edit

Okay, not really, but I am requesting your participation in the following Water Cooler Discussion: OR and Broadcast report. The discussion involves the need for specific policy concerning how Original Reporting relates to information recieved from a broadcast report of an event. This can include both news-style reports and non-news reports, such as a sporting event. Thanks and again, please share your thoughts on this so we can get as many people involved as possible, especially since this relates to an important topic such as OR. —Calebrw (talk) 05:18, 27 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

Re:Translations edit

Well, I retracted my offer to help translate the other day at the WC, as you might have noticed, because I didn't think I would have enough time to translate. However, I might be able to translate a portion of the story (but certainly not the whole thing). I'll see if I can have a go at a few paragraphs. Also, where do you want the translation draft to be? In a subpage of Wikinews:Story preparation/Past Eurovision contestants give advice to this year's performers, speculate on who will win? Tempodivalse [talk] 18:35, 8 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

OK, I'm working on a draft here: Wikinews:Story preparation/Past Eurovision contestants give advice to this year's performers, speculate on who will win/ru. I'm working on translating the interview questions. Tempodivalse [talk] 19:02, 8 May 2009 (UTC)Reply
Well, I've translated all of the interview questions, and it looks like that's about all I can do. I don't think I'll have enough energy or time to do the interviewee answers. Hope I helped. Cheers, Tempodivalse [talk] 19:10, 8 May 2009 (UTC)Reply
You missed a couple of the final questions on each person. Is there any way you can go back and do those? Mike Halterman (talk) 21:57, 8 May 2009 (UTC)Reply
Yep, I just got around to translating the rest of the questions, and left a note at TarzanASG (talk · contribs)'s talk page notifying him where the translation draft is taking place. Glad I could help. Cheers, Tempodivalse [talk] 22:17, 8 May 2009 (UTC)Reply
On a side note, how did you know I spoke Russian, if you didn't see my note at the WC? I don't have any babel boxes on my user page. Tempodivalse [talk] 22:19, 8 May 2009 (UTC)Reply
Ah, that's right. I must have removed the babel boxes while tidying my user page. Tempodivalse [talk] 23:54, 8 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

You blocked this user without warning first. Just wondering, isn't it the custom to warn users using the {{vandal warning}} template before applying a block? Cheers, Tempodivalse [talk] 01:45, 10 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

No problem.   Tempodivalse [talk] 02:08, 10 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

Eurovision interviews edit

That's really a great job. I rarely come here and I didn't imagine this place to look so professional. You might want to take a look at a slightly related news I'm reporting. Since it's my first report and I'm not very familiar with the way things run here, you could help me out. Admiral Norton (talk) 10:59, 10 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

Re: The block edit

Oops. I must not have read the unblock request thoroughly if I didn't see that insult. I was a bit preoccupied with some other matter at the time and wasn't paying full attention. My apologies, it appears Brianmc has now blocked the user again. Tempodivalse [talk] 18:17, 12 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

Translation edit

Hi, I found youer massage on Serbian IRC. Sorry I am late, but here is the translation:

In a special interview for Wikinews, this Serbian representative, Marko Kon, give his comment of first semifinal night.

  • Wikinews: The first semifinal competition of 54th Eurovision Song Contest is tonight, which is the first time held in Moscow. What you think about opening?

Marko Kon: The opening was glamurous, such as competition and fitting. It was the right show kitsch, Kempe and chaos characteristics. I enjoyed myself. (My comment:I am not sure what he meant with this)

  • Wikinews:Competition rules require that ten of the eighteen countries go further. Are you surprised with results.

Marko Kon: I have to admit that I did not pay much attention for the first semifinal night. Only thing what was a bit surprise for me that Montenegro did not make a position for the final.

  • Wikinews:So far, 14 are known songs that will compete in Saturday's final. Did you see yourself as potencionalnog competitor?

Marko Kon: Competition is not something what worry me. I am just douing my job (laughter). (My comment (Also):I am not sure what he meant with this)

Before each competitors came out on scene there were collage postcards with motifs of the national state from which the representative is. All motives are ended on hairdo of Ksenija Suhinova , the current Miss of the World, from Russia. Eurovision Song Contest, on average, has been seen by 100 to 150 million viewers around the world. In addition to European countries, the Eurovision Song Contest is spread in some parts of Asia, Africa, USA and Australia.

This is a best what I could pull out from those sentences in short time. Regards--Laslovarga (talk) 02:34, 16 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

Lead bumping edit

Whoops, I did it again. [1]   Sorry for bumping the eurovision story off the main page, I was intending to move it to the lead with the shorts, but forgot. Cheers, Tempodivalse [talk] 03:26, 16 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

NASA edit

Alas, Jason doesn't live in Florida or I'd suggest sending him, do we have any other Florida contributors other than you?

Anyway, what I'm wittering on about is getting some OR on NASA launches or similar. Wikinews covers an awful lot of what they do, generally favourably, and there might be scope to get site and people access.

Are they too far away for you to get to them? Would it bore you to tears doing sciencey stuff? --Brian McNeil / talk 07:19, 17 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

Will you please knock some sense into the guy who recreated this and claims you did the interview? --Brian McNeil / talk 08:39, 3 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

Re: contributing edit

My main focus is Wikipedia... I have lurked around Wikinews but it normally doesn't fit my style of contribution. This case was similar to most times I've ended up on Wikinews, in that the report was linked from a Wikipedia page - in this case it was relating to something that had been removed from the Wikipedia article for well and truly failing that project's far more detailed policies. Of course it often happens that this is entirely appropriate (for it to be removed from there but remain here), but it was obvious in this case that it didn't belong here either.

I may contribute more in future, but at this point Wikipedia really takes up the time I'm willing to spend on contributing to the wiki projects. -- Rob.au (talk) 11:36, 8 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

  1. Replied to your comment on my Talk page.
  2. Added "original journalism statement" in the article's Talk page, as recommended in the beginner's guide.
  3. Now added photographic documentation.

What next?

WikiVoices edit

Lead article 2 edit

Hi. I reverted your edits to {{Lead article 2}}.

  • We had a water cooler discussion a while back about parenthetical party/state tags, and decided they shouldn't be used.
  • The extra sentence was information not in the article (well, except the part about the 9-year-old, I believe). We also, BTW, have a policy in place now that articles cannot be substantively changed more than 24 hours after publication, so further developments to that story would need a new article.

--Pi zero (talk) 21:17, 9 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

I know what the rules are. I've been here for over four years. As far as I was aware, there wasn't a rule about when you could and could not update the wording in the article templates. Needless to say I have my own magazine to run so I won't be here a whole lot, but it definitely doesn't make me want to try cosmetic changes. I'll just let it look bad next time. Mike Halterman (talk) 07:03, 12 January 2011 (UTC)Reply
Your cosmetic changes to {{Lead article 3}} were excellent, and appreciated; it was the edits to the other that I reverted. I noticed you were a long-time Wikinewsie who had been away for about a year, so I specified the outcomes of related policy discussions during the interim. Certainly no offense was meant. --Pi zero (talk) 16:29, 12 January 2011 (UTC)Reply
Okay. Sorry I was testy. Mike Halterman (talk) 17:47, 19 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

Old prepared stories edit

Two OR-tagged pages of yours are included in a current mass RFD of old prepared stories:

If you want either of them, just ask and we'll move them to your user space (whether before or after the RFD closes). --Pi zero (talk) 01:58, 1 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

(Lol, I forgot you're an admin. Okay, would you believe... just ask and you'll move them to your user space? No, that doesn't quite scan. Well, anyway, so's you know we're discussing them. :-) --Pi zero (talk) 02:03, 1 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

WN:PeP edit

I feel silly applying the policy haphazardly, just because I haven't gotten a chance to apply it wholesale. Sorry about that, chief. --Pi zero (talk) 20:07, 26 November 2012 (UTC)Reply

Busy elsewhere? We understand, but this is a notice of privilege expiry!

Note! Your privileges on English Wikinews have been reduced.

Under the Privilege expiry policy (enacted October 13, 2012) the rights held by your user account have been reduced due to inactivity, or lack of privilege use. You can view your user rights log here.
Point 4 of the Privilege expiry policy provides for fast-tracking reacquisition of privileges. We all understand that real-life commitments can severely curtail the level of commitment you can give to Wikinews; the privilege reduction is in no way intended as a reflection on your past work, or to imply you are unwelcome. The aim in curtailing privileges is to address security risks, and concern that a long period of inactivity means you may not be up-to-date with current policy and practices.

Wikinews Writing contest 2013 is here. :) Please sign up to participate? edit

We've created the Wikinews:Writing contest 2013, which will start on April 1 and end on June 1. It is modeled on the successful 2010 contest. It would be a really great time for you, as a Wikinews accredited reporter, to do some original reporting and conduct interviews. People should be around to interview to prevent a backlog, and several reviewers have access to scoop to make it easier to review any original reporting you do. If you are interested in signing up, please do so on Wikinews:Writing contest 2013/entrants. There is at least one prize on offer for the winner along with the opportunity to earn some barn stars as a way of thanking you for your participation. :D --LauraHale (talk) 10:18, 25 March 2013 (UTC)Reply
