MikeEdwards~enwikinews
Welcome
editMikeEdwards, welcome to Wikinews! I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are a few good links for newcomers:
Our key policies - if you read anything, read these!
- Wikinews:Neutral point of view - tell every side to a story in a fair and balanced way
- Wikinews:Cite sources - everything in a Wikinews article must be sourced
Here a few pointers to help you get to know Wikinews:
- Wikinews:Introduction - overview of the site
- Wikinews:Writing an article - how to write and publish a complete article
- Wikinews:Content guide - what's suitable for Wikinews
- Wikinews:Style guide - how articles should look before publishing
- Wikinews:Contents - the contents page.
There are always things to do on Wikinews:
- Existing articles need expanding and checking for spelling and mistakes
- The front page lead articles often need updating
- Developing stories need finishing and publishing
- Discussions need your input
- Audio Wikinews could always use more contributors
- And of course, stories need writing!
By the way, you can sign your name on Talk pages using four tildes (~~~~), which produces your name and the current date. If you have any questions, you can ask them at the water cooler or to anyone on the Welcommittee, or ask me on my Talk page. Again, welcome! -- Davodd | Talk 19:53, 13 Jan 2005 (UTC)
Cheers on the article, Mike
editAs you can see it's a bit quiet round these parts in these early days, so thanks for contributing! I hope you enjoy working on Wikinews (it's quite addictive, if you've come from Wikipedia it's kinda like getting to write a whole new encyclopedia entry every day!).
I also see that you followed our 'how to write an article' stuff. I wrote a lot of that but I'm always looking for feedback; did you find any shortcomings with it, anything that could be improved? Dan100 07:34, 15 Jan 2005 (UTC)
Please, check my article
editI would appreciate if you check my new article South American intellectuals support arrested FARC leader, at least a fast check. Off course case you can and are not too occupied with something else. The article is polemic since the source is Cuban Comunist Party newspaper Granma, which is POV. I think the news can be published because the information is unbiased and it is not vilification, although the newspaper is POV. Anyway I think this case demands other opinions and is another reason why I am inviting you. I think the news is important because it shows the opinions of some groups in South America. Thank you very much. -- 02:49, 19 Jan 2005 (UTC)
Please check
editI added some text to the Brazilian President meets President of Colombia after the Washington Post quote. Please check and see if it is ok. -- Carlosar 01:05, 22 Jan 2005 (UTC)
Workspace War!
editWhat's your opinion on how the Workspace should, er, work? Amgine wants all stories to be listed at once on the front page, so other people start editing them. When we last tried that I found people were clicking red links and beginning to write articles I was already writing from scratch, just hadn't finished (so not saved) yet. This gave biiig edit conflicts. What's your opinion? Dan100 (Talk) 11:02, 23 Jan 2005 (UTC)
logo
editHave you seen the discussion about the process on the watercooler? I'm keen to keep the ball rolling towards getting rid of our current (imo) ugly logo, but I'm unclear as to where people think we should go next. I'd appreciate your input! Dan100 (Talk) 19:34, 27 Jan 2005 (UTC)
American nun murdered in Brazil
editI put some comments on the page. I hope this can help. Unfortunately I have not found too much information about the PDS. --Carlosar 17:24, 15 Feb 2005 (UTC)
Genetics and foods, human genetics
editHi, those are pretty nice graphics. A few suggestions: maybe drop the text from both (it will make them more versatile if they do not have their own headings), and increase the size of the DNA (it gets a little small when it is scaled down). But they look really great, either way, thank you! --Fastfission 06:47, 18 Feb 2005 (UTC)
Are you dead?
editJust noticed that you haven't edited - since February! Dan100 (Talk) 21:05, 13 May 2005 (UTC)
Your account will be renamed
editHello,
The developer team at Wikimedia is making some changes to how accounts work, as part of our on-going efforts to provide new and better tools for our users like cross-wiki notifications. These changes will mean you have the same account name everywhere. This will let us give you new features that will help you edit and discuss better, and allow more flexible user permissions for tools. One of the side-effects of this is that user accounts will now have to be unique across all 900 Wikimedia wikis. See the announcement for more information.
Unfortunately, your account clashes with another account also called MikeEdwards. To make sure that both of you can use all Wikimedia projects in future, we have reserved the name MikeEdwards~enwikinews that only you will have. If you like it, you don't have to do anything. If you do not like it, you can pick out a different name.
Your account will still work as before, and you will be credited for all your edits made so far, but you will have to use the new account name when you log in.
Sorry for the inconvenience.
Yours,
Keegan Peterzell
