Ironiridis, welcome to Wikinews! Thank you for your contributions; I hope you like the place and decide to stay! If you haven't done so already, you may want to create an account.

Our key policies - if you read anything, read these!

Here a few pointers to help you get to know Wikinews:

There are always things to do on Wikinews:

By the way, you can sign your name on Talk pages using four tildes (~~~~), which produces your name and the current date. If you have any questions, you can ask them at the water cooler or to anyone on the Welcommittee, or ask me on my Talk page. Again, welcome! --Brian McNeil / talk 20:57, 2 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

Your custom babel

Wikinews does not have user templates, because they are divisive and are often offensive. Please do not use the babel field template to create a "fake" user template. - Amgine | talk en.WN 00:56, 4 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

Though I will comply due to your standing with the community, I fail to see how my artificial template (which is limited to my user page) would be divisive and offensive. Could you elaborate? ironiridis 01:20, 4 March 2006 (UTC)Reply
And, speaking of which, why would a babel that said I can't speak any languages other than English due to my nationality be offensive (considering this is a common case for many people), while an implication that President Bush is a dog fucker isn't? --ironiridis (forgot to sign ironiridis 03:18, 4 March 2006 (UTC))Reply
I'm restoring my content. Here's why:
  • User:Mrmiscellanious has what appears to be custom templates along the same vein, added at this revision of his user page.
  • His support of a militant organization is arguably more divisive and offensive.
  • As far as I can see, nobody, including you, has made similar requests to him (I am assuming his sex because of his handle and his name, Jake Novak).
Considering these things, I don't think it's fair to label my edits "divisive and offensive". If you have any other points, let me know. ironiridis 03:24, 5 March 2006 (UTC)Reply
I understand your position. I was not aware of Mrmiscellanious's user templates; I don't visit his pages. I will ask him to remove his user templates as well, for the same reasons. I will also be removing the babel templating system. - Amgine | talk en.WN 04:05, 5 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

Wikinews desperately needs more reporters; please give the project as much time as you can spare. Neutralizer 02:39, 4 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

Thanks a lot!  :) --MrMiscellanious (talk) – 13:18, 5 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

"extreme political bias" or not, contributions such as this [1] are welcome, well, at least by me. Doldrums 16:09, 5 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

be assured: complimentary. and a belated welcome to wikinews. Doldrums 17:31, 5 March 2006 (UTC)Reply
have also added a corroborating (if not independent) source to address the concern u raised. Doldrums 17:35, 5 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

I'm sorry, it was not my intention to indicate you were the instigator. Yours was merely the first I had noticed. I will modify my statement. - Amgine | talk en.WN 18:37, 5 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

Hi Ironiridis - i've replied to your comments here Talk:Ian Thorpe starts to recover from chest pains. → CGorman (Talk) 19:53, 5 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

Ok i've stated on my site that the articles are released into the Public Domain ([2]). I hope this is sufficent. My site is still relatively new, so I still have'nt gotten round to adding a T&T or other legal part to it, but I will do so once I get time. Thanks. → CGorman (Talk) 20:42, 6 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

So you are saying the userboxes do not support the mission or goals of Wikinews. Then there is no basis for argument against their removal. - Amgine | talk en.WN 16:46, 6 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

Just so you're completely aware, put myself up for RfAr for policy violation in this incident, and withdrew it only on request of others after someone else brought an RfAr regarding it.
I am aware of how helpful userboxes are for community. Not at all. - Amgine | talk en.WN 17:05, 6 March 2006 (UTC)Reply
WN:NOT, the same policy as on Wikipedia: "Wikinews is not a free wiki host or webspace provider. You may not host your own website or blog at Wikinews." - Amgine | talk en.WN 17:12, 6 March 2006 (UTC)Reply
That would be your point, not mine. - Amgine | talk en.WN 17:19, 6 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

Amgine's activities

Once Amgine used this phrase in regard to Vonbergm; "I have no reason to believe you are not a troll" I feel comfortable in mentally trying out that same sentence in regard to Amgine. Once I did that, everything he does makes perfect sense. Amgine is enigma spelled backwards, btw, which sort of fits into my little "what if" theory. Neutralizer 17:31, 6 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

<grin> A minor correction, but I said I had no reason to believe he was not a sockpuppet. - Amgine | talk en.WN 17:37, 6 March 2006 (UTC)Reply
Oh, I stand corrected; it was me who Amgine said was a wiki-troll. thanks. Neutralizer 17:39, 6 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

Already had... Thanks! and np - Amgine | talk en.WN 18:03, 6 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

That article is news...

and affects everyone. How do you know that Trump isn't going to build a nuclear weapon production plant there? (preceding unsigned comment made by

about Jason

Yes, it was wrong. I red his statement as he was going to remowe that text. I was little frustrated and first when I published my answer I saw I missunderstand it. I instant deleted it.

"Yes but it has nothing to do with the prison closing. IMO it was added to have a reson to add prisoner pictures. I see no relevance to this, but I am not gponig to remove it. Jason Safoutin 23:16, 10 March 2006 (UTC)"Reply

Sometimes its not easy to communicate with Jason and in combination with lot of editconflicts like it was at that time on the talkpage I went ballistic when I thougt he was going to delete that text. A 'not' can be missed and my readingskills was at that time low. Think my accusation earlier come in an interesting view now :/ International 19:12, 12 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

:hi, its important not to make assumptions. that's a big problem for me; dealing with assumptors. i was pretty clear in my opinion i think; its to do with the time period and that's all its to do with, and btw, why in the heck does anyone care if they don't get to be a janitor? Neutralizer 05:20, 20 March 2006 (UTC) ::I did not know you were nominated until afterwards; this is my point exactly, it is really hard to deal with assumptions because a person has to waste so much f___ing time denying the ones that are wrong...and if you don't believe me, that's not a damn thing I can do about it; so assume whatever you want. Neutralizer 05:32, 20 March 2006 (UTC) Reply

You are absolutely correct. Thanks. Neutralizer 05:40, 20 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

real McCoy

I happen to have a respect for anon IP posts. I have no doubt you know as much as anyone about Wikinews. I noticed your Admin request withdrawal.

I have no idea, other than an appreciation for your sensitivity, why I am posting here. -Edbrown05 06:01, 21 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

Mammoth Apology offered here

I want to offer my sincerest apology for the reference to "sockpuppet" I made. My apology is unconditional and my actions were absolutely inexcuseable. Only as a possible way that you might be able to forgive me for that, I want to explain exactly where I was coming from regarding that completely inappropriate comment. If you've been watching, I receive suggestions to leave wikinews from three editors on a regular basis; likely about 5 such suggestions from each of them. Your "take a break" edit on my talk page (so soon after we had had a little skirmish) came across in that context however well meaning your comment was. My duplication of an infamous Amgine sockpuppet comment was also meant just as a retaliation to your accusing me of voting against your admin because of your edits. That accusation really hurt my feelings as it was insulting to my integrity, imo, so I tried to do a "comeback" that was supposed to get under your skin like the "dissapointing" comment got under mine. I couldn't even stand my own comment so I changed it to a triple negative which basically negated the literal meaning of the damn thing. The bottom line is, it wasn't meant to be taken as anything more than a silly comeback comment. Obviously it was stupid and wrong for me to make that comment so I hope you'll allow me to work with you in the future as I think we've worked well on articles up til now. But that decision is now in your hands; and as I say, that reference to sockpuppet was and is completely,100%, inexcusable; and I'm very sorry I made that comment. Apology Accepted

I accept your apology to me, irid:t and Thanks for it; I just noticed a possible MyLai type massacre by US marines story popping up everywhere except US based media outlets. Perhaps you can help me get this story out in a NPOV fashion? Let's go to work! Neutralizer 21:30, 21 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

Ironiridis, help us!

The first time I listened to the spoken Wikinews (which was only a few days ago - I can read faster than they talk), I was concerned that the quality of the recording wasn't worth the bandwidth. I recalled how Vorbis had created Speex for the sort of thing that spoken Wikinews is doing and wondered why Oog was being used instead. The recording I heard was poor, recorded in a "Golf Announcer" voice at a whisper level. Please, someone do better! Karen 23:13, 22 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

Ironiridis, the "Queensland braces for category 5 cyclone" reading was the first story (and so far the only one) I've heard - and you're the one who recorded it! The RMS level is -37 dB. The maximum level is -15 dB. C'mon, a sock puppet can talk louder than that!

As for Speex, Maybe the Wiki Media people will consider it. I don't know why they'd use Oog for voice-only, but it'd be nice to be able to download on dialup at a reasonable quality/speed trade-off. Karen 01:47, 23 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

I come in peace. What have I done now? Ironiridis' picture really did remind me of the My Name is Earl show, which I enjoy immensely. Karen 01:52, 29 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

Hi, ironiridis. I noticed that you finally passed the 30-day mark, so I thought I'd nominate you again. Hopefully, they will accept you this time. Good luck! WN:A ReporterFromAfar3136 20:59, 3 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

Archiving my talk page

Yes, I'm afraid I've been too lazy to archive my talk page properly here! I've been using a nice archive on Wikipedia since someone asked me to do it to get their vote on my RfA over there :-), but never set one up on Wikinews.

I'd be very much obliged if you could set up an archive for me - possibly similar to the one I use on WP? I've also always marked where I've cleared my talk page with an edit summary of "Clear-out", so that should make it a bit easier. Thanks! Dan100 (Talk) 10:09, 7 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

Wow, nice job, thanks :-) I won't make any changes, it's great as it is! Dan100 (Talk) 06:39, 9 April 2006 (UTC)Reply
