Pornopedia
Regarding your comment to the pornopedia proposal, I just wanted to present you the project we are working on and ask your opinion. We would be glad to collaborate with WikiMedia Foundation. As we understand that it is difficult to reach such agreement of collaboration we will continue with our project hoping to find a common space in the near future. Visit Pornopedia and give me feedback, please!--Biris (talk) 11:18, 14 August 2009 (UTC)
Saludos
Hi there, Gopher65. Thank you ever so much for the welcoming message. It DOES feel nice to be able to talk with a real person. I wanted to let you know that you may count on me if you ever need help with Spanish or French, or Portuguese. As to me, I hardly know my way around here yet, but I believe I can see the vision behind it, and seeing it, can't help but to be entranced... and get my hands on the dough! of course I'll make blunders, and I'll get kicked a little, or a lot, but I can laugh that out ;-) Saludos, Thamus (talk) 23:43, 14 August 2009 (UTC)
Help request with unruly article.
Dear Gopher65, I didn't know I was going to be bothering you ever so frequently, but there you are. I spent the whole night writing this article, but it somehow took control and has turned into a three page monster, and there is still a couple of paragraphs to go... I wonder if you or someone, could take a look at it before I submit it. No, not worried about criticism, I never wrote journalism or anything much before so what the heck, it's more about procedure - being busy writing I did't have much time to read all the guidelines in detail... cheers.Thamus (talk) 11:21, 15 August 2009 (UTC)
Thanks again!
thanks for the suggested reading, I will ask my brother to send something over from the States. :) —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Thamus (talk • contribs)

I've been lost!
I wrote the message below a hile ago, but only posted it now, because, being raw new in WP I have been gazing around all across everywhere and... well hope it's ok. A big heartfelt thanks for your ongoing support.
So I did submit the article on the bus accident. I should have asked for your helped though, or waited until I had a little more time to read the whole procedure about citations etc. I was worried that it was no longer news - the same reason why I declined to improve the last page, which I am not at all happy with, and to give it a proper conclusion. But its main purpose was achieved when I read your explanations of your copy editing and the commentary you left at the bottom of last page. You see, I brag about my English being near native, but I thought I needed a little sobering up as to the exact scope of near in that sentence. So I guess I won't be another Joseph Conrad soon, but it's still ok for me to translate, and perhaps do a little copy editing (grammar but not style). —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Thamus (talk • contribs)

Thanks for your message re Tamil wikinews
Just wanted to thank you for your message re Tamil wikinews. --செல்வா (talk) 20:08, 19 August 2009 (UTC) (Selva)
Flopped article :(
Well, I had thought it would be indifferent but I am a little sad after all. The objections raised against it weren't many, really, but I thought they were indeed valid, I couldn't have argued and I wasn't able to meet the most important one (that it was not news anylonger).
I would be grateful if you could tell me what happens now. Did the article just get deleted or did it "go" somewere else? if so, can I know where? the reason for asking is, I might still want to use part of it for a different paper on urban popular culture I have had in my mind these many years. But I understand that by submiting it to wikinews I forfeit any rights - so, where do I stand when it gets deleted?

A constellation
Gopher, I want to award you a constellation o' barnstars! if everyone in WP were like you, or if at least there were more than a few, wow, I wonder... Actually, I didn't want the article back, I'm sorry I put you out. I have the text, my only worry was to know wether I still could use it without being sued, or worse. I really do not mind if someone else does as long as I can too. And I want to thank you very specially for EXPLAINING things to me, instead of just pointing me to the links where everything is explained in legalese. You may have noticed that HUMAN interaccion is particularly important to me. And I hope this connection may hold, as I am almost ready to move from just touring around the WP world and droping by talk pages to actual contributions. Regards, Thamus (talk) 04:58, 21 August 2009 (UTC)
- I think I ought to let you know that I don't expect to visit wikinews very often, for the same reason that I only read newspapers occasionally, and then I pick the oldest issue available. Nonetheless, I remain at your service whenever you want to have anything translated between the language pairs English-Spanish-Portuguese, any direction. French also if it's not too technical. My Spanish is better than my English and Portuguese is my native tongue. I imagine that if ever there is a request from your quarters, it will be urgent, so I will send you a phone number via e-mail later today. Saludos, Thamus (talk) 18:16, 21 August 2009 (UTC)
Formula 1 Practice
Formula 1: Rubens Barrichello fastest in first practice for European GP Formula 1: Fernando Alonso sets the pace in Valencia second practice Hi Gopher, yes - please do merge the two articles, but would like to keep the content all there, including the times - perhaps arranged under headers? Flood flag
Hi Gopher. I just wanted to suggest you use the flood flag to avoid flooding recent changes, since it looks like you're making a lot of repetitive edits. Cheers Tempodivalse [talk] 23:40, 24 August 2009 (UTC)
Language templates
Hey Gopher. It is not a very good idea to categorize redirects to the actual language templates and let the language templates have no category, because uncategorized templates will appear on Special:UncategorizedTemplates. I recommend you categorize the actual templates and write a proper introduction, like was done for Polling templates. That also saves the creation of redirects nobody uses. Let me know your thoughts. Cheers, Van der Hoorn (talk • contribs) 00:02, 25 August 2009 (UTC)
- Another FYI on templates... They're covered by FlaggedRevisions - you need to sight them. --Brian McNeil / talk 00:17, 25 August 2009 (UTC)
- I don't know a name for a category; maybe "Abbreviated language templates" or something. Instead, you could also change the direction of the redirect. So e.g. {{nl}} would redirect to {{Dutch}} instead of the other way around, so you don't have to apply a category to a redirect and as a bonus you get the nice names. Cheers, Van der Hoorn (talk • contribs) 00:18, 25 August 2009 (UTC)
- I always liked the two-letter templates. --SVTCobra 00:27, 25 August 2009 (UTC)
- Hey Gopher. Forgot to thank you yesterday for being so cooperative with the categorization stuff! :) Cheers, Van der Hoorn (talk • contribs) 12:14, 25 August 2009 (UTC)
Hi, do you know why {{es}} drops off the line, like there's a line break in there? See Wikimania 2009 held in Buenos Aires for an example. Not sure if this is happening for all language templates. Cheers, --SVTCobra 02:04, 3 September 2009 (UTC)
Target/Hit
I've no objection to your move, but the reason I chose "target" is because it seems a bit more interesting, and it is a legitimate term. –Juliancolton | Talk 01:34, 27 August 2009 (UTC)
Try not to hurt yourself with that new Gadget
Really, I mean.. It's not that hard to operate, I dont think... Anyways, I'll be adding more templates... now that bawolff has got it working. --ShakataGaNai ^_^ 04:41, 4 September 2009 (UTC)
Painless Translation Interface
Hi Gopher! I am glad to have a pretext to talk to you again. I have noticed your interest in a problem about which I have been thinking. Here is an excerpt of a conversation of mine with Rursus:
- when you log into your editor/translator account, some features become visible that are not visible to the regular user. Like, somewhere at the top of the article page, you can at a glance know into which languages it's been translated, what is the status of the translation (done/in progress/revision wanted...). Then, you can click on the >translate< button, and your window splits in two, the article on the left half, the right half blank for you to type in, and a little corner somewhere at the top with the relevant dictionaries.
I wanted to interest him in teaching me whatever programming lingo I need to learn in order to make that functional, although of course it would be a lot faster if he developed the code himself ;) .But what you suggest at the village pump is very much this, is it not? so I wanted to say that yesterday is not too soon to have it. It is a real necessity. As I told you already, I have some experience as a translator and false modesties apart, I believe I can do a pretty good job (bar limitations you know of). But things as they are now in wp are extremely off-putting for a new user. When you ask for help, people are well meaning, but they come up with jargon a new user shouldn't be expected to understand, like interwikilinks and such, and even some pages that are supposed to guide you seem to be written only for the ones who already know everything! ooof, sorry, needed a sympathetic hear to get that out of my chest. My positive imput, expanded:
after logging in as a translator, you get to see a translator toolbar at the top of every page. It contains:
- 1.search box - you type the two characters that identify language (pt, en, fr...) and you are informed wether the page (article, document, talk...)
- a)is already translated to that language,
- 1.search box - you type the two characters that identify language (pt, en, fr...) and you are informed wether the page (article, document, talk...)
- b)requires collaboration-proofreading,
- c)is being translated,
- d)has a different but equivalent page (translation not necessary/partially necessary) or
- e)it is not yet translated. For every output except c) and e) a link is given.
- 2.translate button - As above, screen splits (I'd say two vertical halves, but horizontal is fine too). Forget about the dicionaries, though. One can look for them online.
In translate mode:
- 3.List of wiki translators using that specific language pair, with a green button if they are online and choose to be available. Upon clicking on a name, a
- 4.Chat box is made available.
- 5.Save translation button - New article is automatically created on its proper wiki.
Now, I don't know wikimarkup or html, but I understand programming enough to know that all this features are eminently feasible. Can you weigh in on this? Best, -- Thamus joyfulnoise 06:44, 6 September 2009 (UTC)
hi - i want to help wikipedia with a fund-raising
Hi I use some internet website to earn "free" money .. and they really work. I'm thinking about how to use them to help wikipedia.
these sites are based on advertising .. you get paid to view advertisements. you earn also if your affiliates view these advertisements..
so what do you think if wikipedia join one of these site, and everyone who wants to help wikipedia can support it with money, doing a free-of-charge action?
here in Cosenza I use this fund raising to pay the rental of the house ( well.. a part of it ^_^ but more than 50$ )
tell me what you think about this proposal
thanks

I replied to your question on my talk page. :-) Cheers. Tempodivalse [talk] 00:21, 1 October 2009 (UTC)
Er, what were you trying to achieve? The template and includes are quite complex. --Brian McNeil / talk 14:59, 16 October 2009 (UTC)
- In this case, the imported source code is supposed to handle the use of comma or and between parameters, but the closing full stop had to be moved out of there (where only present on a free-form paramater) and conditionally added into {{develop}} after all parameters, but only if parameters were displayed. --Brian McNeil / talk 16:07, 16 October 2009 (UTC)

wikimedia strategic planning
I got you August message today and found that the related talk page was still blank... it's a pity! I think that :
1. this strategic planning is important
2. but there are much too many pages to read and the issues are in such disorder that one gets lost very quickly
3. probably because of that people do not get involved
4. I've seen not one word about it on the fr.wiki, isn't that weird?
5. where are things standing as of today? where do we find the latest follow up?
thanks anyway for contacting me and for your answers, Hope&Act3! (talk) 10:03, 28 January 2010 (UTC)

- From what Gopher says in Dendodge's talk page, it seems Tempo did not claim the prize for privacy reasons. Pmlineditor discuss 10:20, 24 April 2010 (UTC)
