Smoking Ban

Yes I do live in Ireland.

The smoking ban is respected almost everywhere. It is absolutely excellent. Public support for it is very high. I support it fully (i'm a non-smoker). Even most smokers support it! Smoking levels have fallen since the ban, and air quality is far superior to the way it was.

In France, you have a much higher smoking rate than Ireland... and French people seem to be less respectful of the government - so I doubt it would be as effective!

I think smoking in restaurants is disgusting, revolting, ignorant and very mean and unfair. I hope it is outlawed throught Europe.

Deletions.

After you deleted a couple of articles that I submitted for deletion, I don't see those deletion requests in my contributions. Somehow that does not feel right. Shouldn't the deletion requests be allowed to stand?

deletion are deletion. When you delete an article it's hidden completly except for admins. It's the way all the wikis works. A speedy deletion 'ld be done rapidly.

I don't understand you "don't feel right". Are you on wikinews to promote yourself ? Are you planning to be Admin, so you need to show you are actif on wikinews ? The best way to do that is to Write news article, not to complain because someone else take on his own time to manage deletion.

Collaboration is important for wikinews. If you don't like that others correct your work it will be difficult for you and us.

By the way, some people list their actions on their User Page. Feel free to add all your actions on this page.

I find this incredibly concerning from a legal and ethical POV. I refactored the page to remove the number but I really think it needs to be deleted. It was an "Amber Alert" picture. So anyone have duty to use this image. it can be deleted now as the girls are found, it's better. I don't think Commons manage this kind of copyright anyway... ISO norms are POV? RE

What right do we have to decide who is or is not a country or nation? I am not saying what you are doing is wrong...I am glad that someone is trying. But the way I see it is we are all the same...all humans...We don't need lables or a list of countries that rank whether or not they justify as a nation. I get labled all the time in the US. Divol, please don't make this whole Israel issue into something it's not. The views held by those nations who do not recognise Israel do not necessarily reflect my own. I personally believe that a Jewish state must exist to compensate for the suffering of the Jewish people, who are (as you mentioned) humans. The Wikipedia article about the ISO highlights certain flaws in the working of that organisation. One is the slective voting procedure, Wikipedia states that There are member bodies that are national bodies that are considered to be the most representative standards body in each country. These are the only members of ISO that have voting rights. For countries that don't have standards organizations on their own there is a membership category called correspondent members. These are informed about the work going on in ISO but are not allowed to take part in the actual standardization work. This means that certain groups and countries may not be able to express their POV during the formulation of ISO names. Secondly, ISO International Standards are not in any way binding on either governments or industry merely by virtue of being International Standards. This is to allow for situations where certain types of standards may conflict with social, cultural or legislative expectations and requirements. This also reflects the fact that national and international experts responsible for creating these standards do not always agree and not all proposals become standards by unanimous vote. The individual nations and their standards bodies remain the final arbiters., which means that just because the ISO agreed on something, it does not imply that individual governments (whose POVs we must represent to be neutral) may not have agreed to the ISO standard itself. Thus, the ISO itself is not the final authority on such matters, and we do not have the right to imply that it is. I respect your efforts to find a solution to the current standoff but unfortunately, the ISO nomenclature idea has too many flaws to be put into practice. Actually, I am not currently involved in a content dispute with this user, since I had already withdrawn myself from the Israel arguement by the time he "joined the fight". In any case, I blocked him more because he refered to Administrators who had warned him about his behaviour (you, me, Brian, Ilya, Messed and others) as "anti-Semites" than because of his "annihilation" comments.
