fingers just itching to push the shiny new buttons :).

btw, could u move the new Newsroom in place of the old one. there appears to be some support for it at WC/proposals. i'd do it myself, but am not sure if a page-history merging is really required. see also discussion in WC - Article collaboration might be getting the axe. Doldrums 09:19, 2 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Hmm. Not sure what you mean. Messedrocker already did it. Or do you want the histories merged? --+Deprifry+ 09:28, 2 August 2006 (UTC)Reply
oops. hadn't noticed. and no, i don't need the page histories merged. Doldrums 09:31, 2 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Cuban copyrights aren't recognized by the US due to the embargo. Crimson 16:49, 13 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

That was my understanding, I might be wrong. It is fair use in any case as evidenced by AP and other media picking it up. Crimson 16:57, 13 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Yes but the US has not recognized Cuba since the 1960s so I suspect that it does not recognize the convention as applying in the instance of material produced by the Cuban state. I may be wrong, but in any case I believe the image is fair use even if it isn't public domain. Crimson 17:04, 13 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Why do you insist on removing vlid edits. Can I have you lovcation and first Language please.--Irate 10:27, 14 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

I live in Germany and my first language is German. But I do know that "vlid" is spelled "valid", "lovcation" is spelled "location" and "Language" is not a proper noun and thus is not capitalised. --+Deprifry+ 10:31, 14 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Can you explain how it's a copyvio? As noted on Google News, it's being used by plenty of websites. That would mean it was distributed as a publicity image, no? —this is messedrocker (talk) 16:08, 30 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

The images caption on the websites clearly credits "CP/Les Perreaux" as the author. Canadian Press is a w:news agency, much like the AP is, therefore it is of course used on many websites. Those websites pay for the use of their photographies, either through membership in the cooperative or on a case to case basis. --+Deprifry+ 16:16, 30 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

copyvio?

edit

hi, can u take a look at Strike of Jeay Sindh Qaumi Mahaz succeeded in all over Sindh, i've tagged it copyvio as it lifts numerous sentences and paragraphs from its sources. would like the tagging to be reviewed. thanks, Doldrums 17:40, 7 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

The first three paragraphs are heavily plagarised from the "Dawn" article, with only a few words changed here and there. The last paragraph is nearly verbatim lifted from the "Tribune", with only ""exploitative" Musharraf regime" substitued with "government". The stuff in the middle is basically just a listing of localities so that part is less problematic. Overall in all likelihood a copyright infringment beyond a reasonable fair use claim. --+Deprifry+ 17:51, 7 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Bush and human dignity

i can think of a few people, who, if left alone with Bush, can get him to very quickly understand what is, and what is not, an "outrage on human dignity". thanks for the quote! Doldrums 12:06, 28 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Merry Christmas!

HO HO HO! These people got no presents from me this year.
FellowWikiNews is whishing thou a Merry very pegan Christmas , Seasons Greetings, Happy Holidays, Happy Hanukkah, or whatever thou calls it, and
realised they had purposefully forgotten about thou. This user is completely thoughtless, doesn't care about Season's Greetings,
and therefore DEMANDS you have yourself a Merry Christmas... NOW!

Failure to comply will result in going to jail with Santa. (Note: Santa is Satan spelt backwards)!

Christmas Story (Children Friendly):

So kids, is Santa Democrat or Republican??!

Often depicted as an obese man wearing a tasteless red, ermine trimmed suit, Santa Claus is a self-employed Caucasian male who's been married to the same woman for several centuries. It appears likely that he is a churchgoer, insofar as he is a Catholic saint and a former bishop. It has to be assumed here that Claus was released from his vows, or else he would not have been married.

Frequent arguments have erupted over the political affiliation of Claus. Ten years ago, Dick Cheney inadvertently dealt a savage blow to the morale of the Republican Party when he misidentified the political affiliation of Santa Claus in his best-selling book, Parliament of Whores. "Santa Claus," he said, "is a Democrat." However it is perfectly obvious from his demographic profile alone that Santa is in fact a Republican.

This assessment is often rebutted by Democrats with Anne-McCaffery counter-analysis: Santa Claus has no children. High-achieving professionals without children trend Democratic. While the Clausian canon does not specifically address the issue of Santa's children, numerous extra-canonical sources suggest that Claus did, in fact, reproduce. Numerous Christmas TV movie specials alone support this point.

Santa is renowned for an aggressive adherence to a binary naughty/nice list, which suggests an impatience for nuanced moral positions that betrays his Republican preferences. Santa's mere willingness to define individuals along a naughty/nice axis demonstrates his indifference to the philosophical stance of, say, The New York Times. And note that no canonical or extra-canonical Clausian text indicates that Santa ever attended college or, God forbid, graduate school.

THE END!!!
