Auto sign

edit

Maybe add "--~~<includeonly></includeonly>~~" to the end so it will sign automatically when subst'ed. --Remi (talk) 23:43, 17 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

I've personally never been a fan of auto signing. I always find it confusing if some templates sign and some not, and generally end up accidentally signing my name twice. (but thats just my opinion). user:Bawolff 04:01, 18 May 2008 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.65.78.101 (talk) Reply
We also sometimes add short messages after the hello template and autosigning would not allow that. --Cspurrier (talk) 15:18, 18 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Possible Grammar error

edit

I noticed it says "Here a few pointers to help you get to know Wikinews", when it may be intended to say "Here are a few..." A little input? Thx! ESanchez013 (talk) 11:06, 23 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Subst or ney?

edit

In the wikitext, it instructs bot to use subst:, and not to use subst:. Which is it and why? OrangeDog (talk) 20:13, 1 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

The previous welcome template included an L2 heading ("==" either side of the text). What this meant was that when you just put the template on the page, there was an edit link that brought up the template to be edited - subst was preferred to avoid this. The new template does not include a heading, so subst is not needed. --Brian McNeil / talk 20:38, 1 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

Is the Articles for deletion link really necessary? Wouldn't it be better to put something else (maybe a link to IRC?) instead? --Yair rand (talk) 11:16, 17 November 2010 (UTC)Reply

Interwiki update

edit

Please put [[ko:틀:환영]], Korean Wikinews welcome template. Thanks. — 레비ReviSUL Info 13:12, 7 March 2014 (UTC)Reply

Thank you. (You might use {{editprotected}} for such tasks, but asking around also appears to work.) Done. Gryllida 13:27, 7 March 2014 (UTC)Reply

interwiki

edit

{{editprotected}} Remove interwiki. now at wikidata.--MSClaudiu (talk) 15:09, 5 July 2020 (UTC)Reply

Just because it is there at Wikidata is not a sufficient reason to remove iwls, @MSClaudiu:.

Anon?

edit

Shouldn't we remove the "See Template:Welcome-anon for a welcome message for anons" line? {{Welcome-anon}} is simply a redirect to {{Howdy-anon}}, the content of which Brianmc replaced with == Welcome == in 2010. Heavy Water (talk) 16:31, 29 January 2023 (UTC)Reply

Which was likely because people had already stopped welcoming anons. Heavy Water (talk) 16:34, 29 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
@Heavy Water I would be in favour of welcoming anons who made their first edit. Would you agree with this? (I am following up on backlog of edit protected requests and am trying to understand what needs to be done.) Gryllida (talk) 07:15, 5 December 2024 (UTC)Reply
Gryllida: I'm not sure anyone needs to invest time in that. WN:INTRO is prominently linked from the Main Page, WN:Pillars of writing from the sidebar, etc. Heavy Water (talk) 00:18, 27 December 2024 (UTC)Reply
What I meant is have a computer program that welcomes new anons who made their first edit. One of the objectives is to encourage them make a account (this is part of the Template:welcome-anon). Gryllida (talk) 22:34, 7 January 2025 (UTC)Reply
