Talk:US voters go to the polls

Latest comment: 16 years ago by Samekh in topic Updates

This should be upfront on main page and worked on throughout day as news comes in. Would also be great to have reporting from people going to the polls. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Leila Monaghan (talkcontribs) 15:58, 4 November 2008

This needs to be formatted first. Also, first-hand accounts would not fit Wikinews. However, Wikinews reporters may interview people who have voted. --SVTCobra 16:33, 4 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

Maintaining NPOV

edit

Just as a bit of advice, try not to include speculation as to why this or why that. 'Anticipating problems' is also rather speculative, better to attribute that to a known expert or pundit. --SVTCobra 23:45, 4 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

  • Example, the article says: "Problems with long lines and other voting issues are anticipated in a number of states including always closely contested Florida and Ohio." Who is saying this? Wikinews cannot say this per WN:NPOV. This must be attributed or removed. --SVTCobra 01:20, 5 November 2008 (UTC)Reply
    • Yes, I don't know who's been adding that sort of thing. But I've just been putting in the poll results as they get reported. Specifically I'm avoiding quoting attempts to 'call the horse race'. Durova (talk) 01:33, 5 November 2008 (UTC)Reply
Also realize these are projections, not hard facts. I don't want WN to sound like we are announcing a winner until there is a clear one. DragonFire1024 (Talk to the Dragon) 01:39, 5 November 2008 (UTC)Reply
Since, this was unattributed and no one spoke up in defense of this claim, I have removed it from the article. --SVTCobra 02:18, 5 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

Actually, I'm not trying to go off projections at all. Any projections added were done by other people. All we're working with out of WikiVoices (that I'm aware) has been hard data from precinct reports. BTW having major server problems from my area, so atm reading off precinct reports to Samekh and he's entering them because there's less lag from his location. Durova (talk) 02:20, 5 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

I am not blaming you, Durova. I have no idea when the statement was added. I was just hoping for two small things: a) to avoid an edit conflict with your meta:WikiVoices crowd, and b) that you'd remove it while telling your audience "why" with an explaination for why it needed to be removed. Part b) is what I would have done if I was part of tonite's chat. Cheers (and thanks for what you are doing), --SVTCobra 02:34, 5 November 2008 (UTC)Reply
Great, thanks. Samekh and I are trading off based upon whichever of us has less server lag. When we're both doing well I read off to him because I can find the states by their abbreviations faster. Best, Durova (talk) 02:59, 5 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

timezones

edit

I realise it is an article about American elections but it would be a lot easier for those of us in other parts of the world to follow if the times were given in relation to UTC, otherwise it takes a bit of effort to calculate when exactly the events happened, just a suggestion. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 203.9.185.137 (talkcontribs) 00:36, 5 November 2008

Here's a time zone converter.[1] What's a good way to add that to the article? Durova (talk) 03:43, 5 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

Article {{inuse}}

edit

Please note the article is currently in-use. If you could refrain from editing the article for a short while, that would be great. סּ Talk 04:47, 5 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

Updates

edit

This is now old news...unless the updates are to reflect the polls prior to the projected winner, then no more updates should be made. DragonFire1024 (Talk to the Dragon) 04:50, 5 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

We're working on it... it's being converted to table format. --Rschen7754 (talk) 04:52, 5 November 2008 (UTC)Reply
I'm making a table at the moment, but won't add it to the article until each state has 100% of precincts reporting. סּ Talk 05:35, 5 November 2008 (UTC)Reply
Table mostly done, will do the rest in the morning. סּ Talk 18:15, 5 November 2008 (UTC)Reply
