Talk:London to host 2012 Olympic Games

I'm watching live on TV (BBC1) and listening live on the radio (BBC Radio FiveLive) - writing the article as I go! Dan100 (Talk) 6 July 2005 11:52 (UTC)

Seb Coe interview with 5Live: state of shock, whole team fanstastic effort, UK special place for sport, passion, dreamed of getting more young people into sport

Well apparently, the Paris presentation was rather lacklustre, almost as though they were too sure they'd already won. don't really think it could've been That food comment that did it... do you?

...a short account of each city's bid for the place. The numbers of votes don't add up though: 54 votes for London + 50 for Paris = 104, but total number of Comittee members is 116. Mr. Purple 6 July 2005 12:29 (UTC)

-some abstainers, perhaps?

And the fact that "IOC members from countries with candidate cities were ineligible to vote while their candidates were still in contention" -

Original reporting edit

On the page it has a box saying the article is based on original reporting by someone, and that details are on the talk page. I don't see any. I'd love it if Wikinews consisted of original work instead of information distilled from professional sources, but from the talk page it looks like you were just watching TV and used that as your source. Is this true? Or were you there in Singapore? Thanks. Bob ( 6 July 2005 14:10 (UTC)

See up. Dan100 (Talk) 6 July 2005 14:11 (UTC)
Which bit? I saw "I'm watching live on TV (BBC1) and listening live on the radio (BBC Radio FiveLive) - writing the article as I go!" If this is the bit you mean I have to say it's slightly fraudulent to claim this article as a product of original reporting. Look at the Wikinews:Original reporting page. Were you an eyewitness to the voting? Did you interview anyone? Sorry to sound cynical, but I saw the original reporting claim and thought great, Wikinews is not the rehash of professional news sources I feared it might be. 6 July 2005 14:39 (UTC)

Good job on this. edit

Being the general news addict I am, it is nice for a change, to find out something first by reading it on WN - good job! -- Davodd | Talk
