Talk:Wikinews interviews William Pomerantz, Senior Director of Space Prizes at the X PRIZE Foundation
Licence
edithi, I release this interview-part under CC-By-2.5, the intro and outro on the sourced page is perhaps to much npov, but you could tell me if it's okay. otherwise I will modify it. I already asked for help here Wikinews talk:Request an interview bute nobody has replied to me yet. --Andreas -horn- Hornig (talk) 11:28, 2 August 2010 (UTC)
- You posted cc-by-3.0 on your HDTV page, but that is fine too. We'll put a banner at the bottom of the article to link the correct licence.
- I don't think the intro and outro are good for the article, but you are welcome to paste them into the talk page as 'reporter's notes'.
Under Development
editI will add some wiki-links and picture, soplease give me some time, please. --Andreas -horn- Hornig (talk) 11:28, 2 August 2010 (UTC)
My personal thoughts
edit- Some of the categories were redlinked. I don't mind if you restore my deletions if you think we need those cats.
- Interview is very interesting. Thanks!
- Some of your questions seem a bit POV in my personal opinion, and have small spelling and syntax errors, but I am not sure of English Wikinews policy on those. POV answers are of course fine.
--InfantGorilla (talk) 12:41, 2 August 2010 (UTC)
I hope it is, at least it is for me, personally. That's why I asked them. And the typo stuff is, because I'm German and English isn't my native language, I hope you don't mind and perhaps could help me correcting it. --Andreas -horn- Hornig (talk) 13:50, 2 August 2010 (UTC)
Conflict of interest?
editAndreas, You are a member of Synergy Moon that hopes to win the prize, aren't you?
This version of wikinews is quite strict about its conflict of interest rules, so there may be a problem. It is a bit like a supplier interviewing his own customer. What do you think?
I suggest you explain your role at Synergy Moon and wait for some community discussion before you spend too much time perfecting the article.
--InfantGorilla (talk) 13:03, 2 August 2010 (UTC)
hi, sure I'm part of the team, that's why I explicitely signed that on the intro/outro and told you here, that at least this COULD be NPOV, but that was just the reason why doing the interview. the interview part, and only that is what does matter for me, is done as neutral as possible, because this was done for my other involvment for hdtvtotal.com where I don't want to mix both involvements. in this there is now reference to either synergy moon or another team. and I hope that is clearly visible in my questions. when a mac news-website does a mac interview, this is almost the same. and as you can see this is more about the high-def video aspect and about common stuff, so there shouldn't be a problem. I just mentioned that I'm part of one team, because that's only fair, and I also linked all active team-pages without any side-thought. it's still wikinews decision, that's why I like this site. and can't really see where there is a costumer relationship in the question part. I can provide my emails with all details from contacting, the interview to asking for images (where I sill don't have a word about the licences, that's why they aren't uploaded here). greets, --Andreas -horn- Hornig (talk) 13:48, 2 August 2010 (UTC)
- hi, so where and how can we discuss it? I waited one ay and nothing happened. Is there a special discussion page to go to? greetings, --Andreas -horn- Hornig (talk) 08:49, 3 August 2010 (UTC)
- I don't know why no-one else is here. Too busy in real life, or writing news, or joining in the drama to notice a {{flag}} I guess. Anyway, here is the place to discuss it.
- Your intro said "joined" - it wasn't clear to me whether you are still a team member: that is why I asked you directly. Thanks for removing doubt.
- The reason I say "customer" is that I guess you get a salary or a share of the X Prize if your team wins. Is my guess correct?
- Copies of original e-mails are good. If they contain private details such as a private address, home IP, or phone number, then omit those.
- I don't mean that you are biased in favor of your team, nor against any other teams. I have no reason to believe you have any bias at all, and I appreciate your efforts at neutrality. However there is a conflict of interest when you have a personal financial stake in X Prize getting nice/positive publicity. That means a reader might think you can't ask the hard questions the reader might want answered, like: "are there better ways to spend the money that donors give to X Prize?" or "is the prize big enough to get the best contestants?", or even "are big contractors and government agencies able to compete fairly to win an X Prize?" (for example.) Conflict of interest is partly about the appearance of bias, even if there is no actual bias.
- Those are my personal concerns. Our task is to decide whether, as a community, we can accept the article with those concerns. I am not a very experienced Wikinewsie myself, but these are the concerns I sometimes raise with interviewers: I have not singled you out.
- I repeat, thank you for doing an interesting interview, and thank you for offering it to us.
- okay, then I will sit here and wait for questions
- It's an info for the reader and I even told GLXP directly in my first email, whether or not they would like to do an interview. it just a formality.
- at least I don't have a contract with a fixed shareratio and I don't even expect that. and there are interviews with wikimedia personals, isn't that the same? like possible indirect advertizement?
- okay, I will have a look how to solve that.
- if there are additional questions, we could still ask Mr. Pomerantz. and a team willget the money by achiving to get to the moon and to do other stuff. and not by doing interviews. so neither myself or a team will gain any advantage.
- that's why I'm here :). but several other news attemps where deleted because no one really helped and then it was deleted, because it was not newsworthy anymore. An interview is not breaking news, but I don't want to wait a week to wait for help and then it's deleted.
- thanks :), perhaps there are more interested readers in wikinews.
- greetings, --Andreas -horn- Hornig (talk) 13:09, 4 August 2010 (UTC)
- hi, is there anywhere I could go to fasten it up? --Andreas -horn- Hornig (talk) 21:55, 8 August 2010 (UTC)
Thanks!
- Original reporting can be move to user space, or undeleted. There is now a warning about that on the deletion tag.
- I asked about this at Water Cooler. Nobody answered. If you want to get more opinions, maybe the only way is to finish the article and put a 'review' tag on it.
- I won't be online much to help, but plenty of others are about.

Comments by reviewer: First instance of name is full name, i.e. "Andreas Hornig," then initials afterward (AH). Same for Pomerantz. Questions about the above? Ask. If possible, please address the above issues then resubmit the article for another review (by replacing {{tasks}} in the article with {{review}}). - hi, please explain, why they use names in here KKE: Interview with the Greek Communist Party and I should do initials? --Andreas -horn- Hornig (talk) 15:53, 16 August 2010 (UTC)
- Because my initials and her initials were the same, so it would be confusing. Blood Red Sandman (Talk) (Contribs) 16:20, 16 August 2010 (UTC)
- ahhh! now I recognized that! :) okay, changed in it my interview. I just used this interview as a basis :). --Andreas -horn- Hornig (talk) 16:53, 16 August 2010 (UTC)
Intro/Outro
edithi, I forwarded the last email containing the mail-exchange to scoop-at-wikinewsie.org, so some persons should have read it by now. So what would you think about the into and outro to this interview? the current one is rather short and the outro is missing. what do you think I could/should add? --Andreas -horn- Hornig (talk) 13:50, 18 August 2010 (UTC)

- Hi Diego, it seems, we are in a vicious circle. I ask how we can solve this problem, hardly noone replies, then I wait, switch to review again, get the same reply, ask a gain, wait.... It's really frustrating when you want to do everything according to the rules, but noone tells me how. Shouldn't be there somkind of mechanism avoiding this? Wherecan I go? I ask somewhere else (linked above) and even there noone feels to help. There should be some place to go and set clear my point of view, so please, wehere should I go? --Andreas -horn- Hornig (talk) 17:52, 21 August 2010 (UTC)
- BTW: why did you link to User:Saki?
Subtitle
edithmmm, I would say "Regardless of who wins the prize, people all around the world will be able to experience the mission through high-def video-streams" unless you want to put it directly into the "title", than it's too long :). --Andreas -horn- Hornig (talk) 21:34, 28 August 2010 (UTC)
