Talk:Former Miss Austria Ena Kadic dies after mountain fall

Latest comment: 4 years ago by Pi zero in topic Move request

It was hard to extract enough material for an article, to the extent I even looked up WN:LENGTH to satisfy myself. The Miss Austria website is in German, naturally, but it's not too taxing. Only three things are sourced here;

  • Hobbies: Sport, Natur (pretty self-explanatory)
  • Haarfarbe: braun = Hair colour: brown
  • Augenfarbe: grün = Eye colour: green

Incidentally, a bug in {{sources}} is messing with the URL. BRS (Talk) (Contribs) 19:32, 22 October 2015 (UTC)Reply

Pi zero (t · c · b) fixed that broken link thingy. I tried to with Wayback Machine by Internet Archive, to no avail, with this link -- https://web.archive.org/web/20150915210625/http://www.miss-austria.at/index.php?id=48&tx_ttnews[tt_news]=587&cHash=70c04ff7ec1fb0aff41796b8d6a28ff3 -- I guess fix by Pi zero is better here. -- Cirt (talk) 19:53, 22 October 2015 (UTC)Reply
I like the word "Augenfarbe". --Pi zero (talk) 20:01, 22 October 2015 (UTC)Reply

  Not done "ć" versus "c" is insufficient reason to move the article. This is English Wikinews after all, so if a few names are anglicized, that is normal. The extended Latin alphabet is not part of the English alphabet. So I am sorry, but no. --SVTCobra 23:12, 7 January 2018 (UTC)Reply
"Naïve" reason. It is a proper noun, and if there are articles like 'Suárez', categories like 'München' and 'Rakitić', articles using the word "Barça", then this reasoning fails.

However, there is no such category as Category:München, we have Category:Munich. --SVTCobra 01:20, 8 January 2018 (UTC)Reply
Instead of wasting everyone’s time justifying why you are correct (I will tell you a secret: you are not), how about a string search? Lemme help ya. link. 223.237.201.53 (talk) 01:36, 8 January 2018 (UTC)Reply
Correction. You are wasting everyone's time. The fact that there are words within articles that use expanded Latin alphabet (or even other alphabets ... I am sure somewhere you could find some Arabic or Chinese or other), however, that does not mean Wikinews is required to use it in every instance. This is English Wikinews. --SVTCobra 01:44, 8 January 2018 (UTC)Reply
Truly, these discussions don't have to get acrimonious, on either side. Just express opinions, without side comments. Address the issue, not the person (there's some similar advice at WN:Never assume). And if one person deviates a little from that, the other doesn't have to do likewise. --Pi zero (talk) 01:55, 8 January 2018 (UTC)Reply
  Not done On consideration, I agree that while there's lots of precedent that we allow such diacritics, we do not require them and anglicized names are a common and perfectly acceptable practice on en.wn. So renaming here is not indicated. --Pi zero (talk) 07:12, 15 August 2019 (UTC)Reply
