I found an independent source but it disagrees with the first source on a few key points. --SVTCobra 03:02, 18 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

I think I've worked out more or less what happened and have described it as such. I'm still not completely comfortable with this article. JoshuaZ 03:21, 18 December 2007 (UTC)Reply
I think some of the $ amount issues are due to exchange rates between Aussie and Canadian dollars. --SVTCobra 03:30, 18 December 2007 (UTC)Reply
We should probably unpublish this until we can figure out what the correct numbers are and which is which currency. JoshuaZ 19:19, 18 December 2007 (UTC)Reply
I don't care anymore. This has been around newswires around the globe and probably everyone has read some version it. I can tell you that C$1 costs A$1.1275 as of this very minute. Do want you deem appropriate, --SVTCobra 19:36, 18 December 2007 (UTC)Reply
That means that C$9000.00 is equal A$10,147.50 which is roughly inline with two amounts in the story. Hope that helps. --SVTCobra 19:38, 18 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

doesn't add up for me....

hi folks - sorry to be a downer, but this article doesn't add up from my perspective - I suspect the winning bid will turn out to be fake, which kinda makes the whole thing a 'didn't really happen' episode.

Having said that - the reason it's got legs is that it's a good read - amusing and topical. The core problem with the story is that the game is freely available in australia. It's very (very) hard to believe that anyone actually paid $9000 for it. Privatemusings 00:05, 19 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Especially when the source of the report is the Daily Telegraph, which isn't known for its fact-checking on these sorts of stories... 203.6.164.49 01:45, 21 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

I flagged this for deletion, without a link to the ended auction, I don't even think its real. You can go on e-bay and there are hundreds of copy's of the game for under $200. Zath42 18:44, 21 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Here is the listing:
And another story for good measure:

What is this article doing on the front page of the Australia portal? It's one year old! --77.75.161.35 20:42, 30 November 2008 (UTC)Reply
