With regards to who announced his death, the article says it was his agent, and the two sources do seem to imply that

• BBC: He died in hospital in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, where he was being treated for pneumonia, his agent John S Kelly said.
• NYT: According to The Associated Press, his agent, John S. Kelly, said Mr. Nielsen died at a hospital near his home in Fort Lauderdale where he was being treated for pneumonia.

However, en-wp has sources that say his nephew Doug telephoned Canadian radio station CJOB and announced it:

Not a problem IMO. "Announced" does not imply "announced first", and in any case, the information from his nephew sounds like a less formal sort of thing. --Pi zero (talk) 16:54, 29 November 2010 (UTC)
