questions re commentsEdit

  1. "{{W}} is not used for wikipedia links" - how do I link to a wikipedia site if not with the link tab in the toolbar
  2. "{{source}} templates are not filled in" - I believe I have filled in the source templates with the appropriate information, some articles do not have an author listed but that is because there was no attribution to an author on the original site. Is there something else I am not doing re citations?

Thanks very much for the feedback, is much appreciated

To wikilink, say, "Barack Obama" one would write {{w|Barack Obama}}, which would produce Barack Obama. I'd never even noticed there was a link tab in the toolbar; myself, I never look at the toolbar, since by writing the markup directly one gets better control over what one is doing.
(Btw, a handy trick when writing about this stuff: to name a template, rather than calling it, use template "tl", like this: {{tl|source}} produces {{source}}. That's because {{tl}} is a template for naming templates.) --Pi zero (talk) 14:40, 20 September 2013 (UTC)
Worth pointing out to all concerned is that the style guide does not demand {{w}} use, just strongly advises it. Blood Red Sandman (Talk) (Contribs) 15:15, 20 September 2013 (UTC)
In theory, that's true of most of what the style guide says. Knowing when and how to deviate is generally advanced stuff, for those who already know. --Pi zero (talk) 16:24, 20 September 2013 (UTC)
Well, what it says exactly is simply "Note that use of the template is preferred" after explaining both methods. Blood Red Sandman (Talk) (Contribs) 16:37, 20 September 2013 (UTC)
