Tax totals 14% for hotels, convention hotel room rate $110/night -> $125.40/night

Rental of hall C: $24,000 Rental of AV equipment: $16,000 Cost of labor: $23,000

Rental of Spirit of Pittsburgh Ballroom was not recalled, but was in line with these figures - one (very rough) estimate was $40,000.

Two years ago (from Form 990), expenses were $112,542, and $110,331 the year before. Highly unlikely that they're lower now that they have to pay for a convention center.

Have photo of art show bag racks with mixed signage for Philcon and Anthrocon indicating shared ownership.

Working in a union shop was cited by Dr. Conway as the factor that Anthrocon was forced to compromise on to get the size they needed at a price they could still afford.

Furry Tales was packed, almost couldn't get a ticket. Majority appeared to be furs, though various socialites were watching as well.

Opening ceremonies (have video with audio for some of this): Conway: "It was a good production, it was a nice story . . . but it was not quite our story"

Conway (re. Furry Tales creators not having been at a con): "Well, I told them I knew where there was one!"

4 protestors total, 3 for much of time, 2 wearing afro wigs, holding signs, outside daycare center (photo). Other photos seen show umbrellas being held over protestors by Giza (Douglas Muth) and Kage (Conway).

Clear from bedding and luggage in some rooms plus that more than the approved number are sleeping there. Some will officially limit to three or four but take on stragglers if asked.

Zoo is packed, large room with seating for ~125 people around tables, people giving out leftover food on occasion, tables still full at 2AM at night.

Art show had many items not bid on and which were available for rlatively small sums ($10-50). I personally bought two pieces at $10 each. Didn't think I'd get them, but no opposing bids (was outbid on one piece by "name-brand" artist Jen Seng)

For those that went to auction: bids on PG art pretty low, one final piece Dark Natasha "Just one more" -> $1000. Mature auction went somewhat higher, still not huge sums for most, $2000 for last by Taurin Fox.

People in closing ceremonies complaining about not being able to get seats in Artists Alley on Friday and Saturday. Staff say may be room for 30 or 40 more seats.

Complaint: Not enough fans in headless lounge, not big enough - Kage says already pays $1,000/day for headless lounge, was doubled this year.

Dorsai actually recruiting from furry fandom, expanding operations, will be at FurFright, also interested in Orlando.

Background knowledge regarding charity: At Midwest Furry Fandom board meeting (at convention: Midwest FurFest) they just decided to double the charity's take because they knew they had the cash spare.

Kage says Floyd Norman to be first "Guest of OK" at AC 2008 because didn't want to be a guest of honor

14.1% fursuiters.

Might have to move into hall B, but no immediate plans to do so.

202 supersponsors paid for convention hall (seems to add up, or thereabouts, get $35000, minus cost of lunch and t-shirts is still pretty close to $24,000)

Disabled fursuiter said Anthrocon was a great experience, would like to see more participation by physically disabled fursuiters (got a photo of this one, was in the parade)

Saw blue paw marks on floor, have photo, not included to use due to quality issues.

Related news section

Not again

Horrible non-newsworthy theme aside, isn't this just a glorified Wikipedia article? I find it personally disgusting that this kind of story comes up again and appears to be used to celebrate and attempt to legitimize a marginalized lifestyle more than attempt to inform.

I don't recall even Hurricane Katrina or the 2005 tsunami being covered in such detail.

It's clear certain administrators use these conventions as their soapbox and urge that this stays off the main page and on Wackynews only. If Star Trek conventions and Moonie mass weddings aren't on the front page, this should not be either.

My intention was to write a feature news article, as the topic is more of a human interest story than "hard" news. However you should find that there are plenty of hard facts in the article.

This is a topic that interests me, so I asked the head of the convention for permission to film footage for use in preparing a news report, took photographs, and wrote up this article. If you wish to cover Hurricane Katrina in detail - or a Star Trek convention or Moonie mass wedding - you are welcome to do so. As I understand it, that's part of the point of Wikinews - covering the stories that others don't.

I'm not sure who you're talking about with regards to administrators - I'm not one here, nor do I know any furry that is. Of course, there could be a cabal . . .GreenReaper 22:39, 17 July 2007 (UTC)

The cabal only exists on Wikipedia. ;) I am an administrator, and I did check in with Greenreaper to make sure that he was going to syndicate the WikiFur article to Wikinews. I did this based solely on the quality of his reporting previously, and he certainly has not let me down.

Wikinews is written by "you". If "you" are interested in furries, we have articles on furries. If "you" are interested in the Buffalo, New York waterfront, we have articles about the Buffalo, New York waterfront. If "you" are interested in New Zealand's politics, we have articles on New Zealand's politics. If you don't write about what you are interested in, we can't have articles on what you want to read. -- Zanimum 14:25, 18 July 2007 (UTC)

Removal of source?

One of the sources providing a quote for this article has been removed. The person who made the quote has told me that they had not intended their comments to be quite that public. Should the source, the quote and other information from that source be removed on the basis that the source is no longer valid? I am not familiar with Wikinews policy in this area. Understood. I have removed the source from the list. I also corrected the article earlier to make it clear they were not speaking officially - they clarified that this was their main issue with it. If the quote should just be removed, feel free to do so. GreenReaper 15:06, 18 July 2007 (UTC)

Yes. I wasn't sure that I should remove the quote, as I know they did say it. The previous wording was just open to interpretation that they were saying it "officially" when that was not the intention. The source now no longer includes the quote, so I removed the link as you suggested above. I guess it becomes original research. GreenReaper 15:34, 19 July 2007 (UTC)

Featureing in 3:rd lead?

Everytime i see Greenreapers articles, those times i pop in here, I happily read them. Definatly among the best done here. That some anonymous dorks dislike furrys cant be a argument against featuring. international 12:14, 18 July 2007 (UTC)

Headless lounge

So, it cost $1K per day to be in the lounge, or it cost organizers that much to rent it? Because that's an astronomical fee for individuals. You could hire a crew of models to take you up to the hotel room on one of those Egyptian pharaoh lift things. -- Zanimum 15:04, 18 July 2007 (UTC)
