Ribéry signs contract extension with Bayern

On Sunday, French winger Franck Ribéry signed a one-year contract extension with Bayern Munich, the German football club announced. The contract runs through June 2018.

33-year-old Ribéry joined the German side in 2007 from French club Olympique de Marseille. Since then, the Frenchman has scored 108 goals and provided 164 assists in 333 appearances for Bayern. Spending nine years with Munich, Ribéry has won six Bundesliga titles and five DFB Pokal Cups. In 2013, Ribéry won the UEFA Champions League and the European Footballer of the Year award.

Last season, Ribéry won the Bundesliga title and the DFB-Pokal cup against Bayern's arch rivals Borussia Dortmund. Ribéry's previous contract would have ended after June 2017.

After signing the contract extension, Ribéry said, "I'm very happy to play for FC Bayern for another year [...] This great club and the city have become my home, both in terms of sport and in private. I'm looking forward to many more beautiful moments together with the FC Bayern fans, and I want to play my part in the team's success in the next one and a half years."
