Ryan and I have worked all of this out, and we're friends again. WNN is taking a huge leap and bringing wiki to broadcasting (stary tuned). If you want, you can sign up on our schedule an do a half-hour show per week, or whatever you'd like. And be sure to get a username! :) NGerda 21:40, Jun 16, 2005 (UTC)

I just want to say...

...that this is one of the coolest ideas ever and that I want to get involved, even if every damn thing has to be explained to me.

I'm a 21 y/o male with what I have been told is a good voice for radio. What better place to give it a try?

To contact WNN email somebody? Huh?!

This seems like an interesting experiment, but I would note that having an email address for a wikimedia subproject's subproject is quite unwiki, as is the idea that someone "is" WNN and would respond via email. Questions and their answers should be posted openly in wiki form. Who is in control of this WikinewsNet@gmail.com email address? The entire community? If not, in what way does it have anything to do with a wiki?

How wiki-friendly can this be with privately-owned resources?

How can this project be wiki friendly at all if some of the resources are owned by and controlled by private individuals who are not clearly identified, and who have already shown a possible tendency to conduct this in a manner quite contrary to established wiki-like practices? -- Samrolken 04:41, July 9, 2005

Correct. It isn't "wiki" by strict definition since it is not text-based and cannot be edited easily by anyone after publication to the site. On a technical and user interactive level, WNN has more in commmon with the Wikicommons project, which is a collection of non-text media which is freely available for use by others. -- Davodd | Talk 21:42, 20 July 2005 (UTC)

I replaced email address, will ensure correct responses to questions by those who are working on the project, you can also send an email if you would like to work on the project, many people working on the project have access to it, and to request access just send an email to it. 'This is WNN' music idea...

Hi.

In relation to Station idents and programme music has thought been given to potentially using the opening and closing them style music developed for the video Broadcast WikiNews project?

Apparently there had been a theme written already.

I'd also like to suggest an alternative idea for ident or theme music...

The phrase WNN, Wiki or Wikinews could be rendered in more and the morse code used as the basis of some kind of station ident or music...

WNN as morse would be : .-- -. -. Wiki as morse would be : .-- .. -.- ..

The morse phrases could thn be used as the basis fro a more complex tune. (much in the way that the pusdeomorse/timesignal on News24 is)

.. If you wnated to be really simplistic you could use the just the first two bars of Beethovan's fifth. (although technically in morse this would be VV rather than W). BTW The use of well known musical cue for a Radio station ident is not without precedent.

Suggetion re start of bullitens and end of field reports...

At start of bullitens I's like to suggest something like the following..

Starting with a timesignal from some kind of control server...

<WNN Ident> (during which mic transfers to bulliten anchor) 'This is WNN in '<location> <bumper/opening> 'The headlines at:' (Could insert appropriate phrase for Worls, US etc here) <into headlines...>

At the end of the bulliten you could use something like.. <end of bulliten> ..'For WNN, that was the News at' <closing> <station ident>

Additonaly I'd like to suggest that the practice followed by UK media at the end of field reports is a good one to follow... Namely the 'From' <location> 'for WNN.' style of ending a report.

essentialy a vartion on what BBC World Service uses...

Related to News- What about the Weather?

I know this is tangentially related to WNN but has anyone given any consideration as to how WNN could give reports of a meterologicla nature?

In other words would it be possible for WNN to have short Weather forecasts.

I suppose the closest example I can think of for a possible idea is a format something like a city-based version of the UK shipping forecast, but perhaps less technical..

WNN is not a historical project

Samrolken has attempted to portray WNN as a "historical project". WNN is continually being worked on and improved by a number of Wikinewsies in preparation for a second proposal. Just because the community has decided it is not ready for Wikinews at this time and in its current state does not make it a "historical project". -- NGerda 08:38, August 11, 2005 (UTC)
