Wikinews talk:Article layout in a nutshell

Here's my thoughts on what else should maybe be worked in here:

• The quick wikipedia link trick: [[w:Foo|]] gets auto-converted to [[w:Foo|Foo]] on save.
• A link to further information on editing syntax. (Either meta:Help:Editor, or mw:Help:Formatting)
• The section on categories should be expanded a bit. (Really we need a better system for telling people what categories exist)

It seems to me that it is rapidly becoming larger and the 'nutshell' moniker becomes less useful. This nutshell is beginning to overlap with the style guide. --SVTCobra 01:48, 21 November 2008 (UTC)

I just reread the current version, and I think it is at the length limit of what most people will read. Bawolff's suggestion about about using things like the bar and closing square brackets for auto-completion of a WP link strikes me as something that should be in a Wikinews:Tips and tricks essay; anyone have other ideas what should be in something like that? --Brian McNeil / ^talk 12:11, 8 March 2009 (UTC)

Good idea. I'd suggest cluing people into the fact that other interwiki links exist, not just w: (ie wikt:). Gopher65_talk 12:45, 8 March 2009 (UTC)

Example of a newstory

As a newswriter in real life, but not someone who is regularly involved in the editing of Wikipedia material, I found this an incredibly laborious read. Despite sifting through difficult texts daily, the layout of this guide made it really challenging for me to understand.

My point however was the news story is really poorly written, and maybe not the best example for someone starting out (for example the semi colon is incorrectly used). I may take a stab at writing one for the site, but I think this guide could really be rewritten to increase the number of users writing news for wikipedia. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 213.246.129.247 (talk) 14:56, 9 March 2010 (UTC)

Just to note, this is Wikinews, we are a completely different project from Wikipedia. Although i agree, some of these policy pages are somewhat poorly written and could do with a substantial rewrite... Tempodivalse [talk] 15:22, 9 March 2010 (UTC)

Qatari Virus Outbreak

As of 16/2/2023 the Qatari Government has announced a country wide lockdown due to a virus that spread from nepal, this has been classified as a sub virus to the Corona Virus and has serious effects on the brain causing people to act like zombies.

So far this has taken the lives of 693 people and the United Nations has organised a emergency meeting to find ways to neutralize thos threat. John Jamason (talk) 13:12, 16 February 2023 (UTC)
