Use of watermarked images

When writing an article for Wikinews is it acceptable to use watermarked image(s) to illustrate the news article? In this case, the source of the image(s) does not want them to be published without a watermark because that person is concerned that the image(s), since they are new and of potential interest worldwide, may be "stolen" by unscrupulous entities. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 70.215.202.131 (talkcontribs) 16:17, 2 June 2013‎

We can't use images copyrighted by another news agency. See WN:FU. --Pi zero (talk) 17:24, 2 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Providing "In the news" section for Simple English Wikipedia?

Hello there,

I am an editor of Simple English Wikipedia ([1]). This wikipedia is a project that recently hit 100.000 articles; the language used is English, with a few tweaks that make it easier to understand. Currently, there are about 30 regular, named editors. There was a proposal to add a section "In the News", to the main page of the project. There are drawbacks of course:

  • If we can gain 4-5 editors of the 30 for this cause this is a lot.
  • We lack most articles about "current" events; which would need to be created (to be referenced)
  • "Simple English" needs getting used to, but has a steep learning curve

I am just posting this here to let you guys know. The main forum of the community is at: Simple Talk. Feel free to drop in, if you like. --Eptalon (talk) 16:57, 18 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Feel free to use Wikinews's headlines and first paragraphs (lede) to fill data into such a section, as you see some of them on the main page, with proper attribution. I don't think there would be a need to write special things (other than possibly simplify the ledes) and it would not have to be a large volume of work. --Gryllida 04:53, 20 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

(Sorry for writing in English [even though this is an English-language wiki :P]. You can translate the proposal.)

This page is a good place to put such a notice. Thanks. --Pi zero (talk) 11:21, 23 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
