Project scope

edit

The English Wikinews has had in place, since 2006, an "accreditation policy", whereby members of the community may request that they are vouched for by the community in order to claim press credentials at events. Members who are successfully accredited are known as "accredited reporters", and have their details listed on a credential verification page, as well as the ability to have their status vouched for by any other accredited reporter or sysop. However, many reporters are asked for press credentials at police borders, large events, and other news events, preventing them from obtaining valuable "Original Reporting". The Wikinews Accredited Reporter Identity Cards (WARIC) Project aims to solve this problem.

For the avoidance of doubt: This proposal is not for the WMF to begin vouching for our accredited reporters.

Project goal

edit

The goal of this project is to provide identity cards to accredited reporters in order to facilitate their reporting of events. These cards are to be renewed annually in order to prevent misuse of the cards by former / no longer accredited Wikinews users.
