Could you help out?

Judging from the BART, this should happen in your area. Can you help out a bit? Thanks Kayau (talk · contribs) 12:41, 6 June 2010 (UTC)

Android App

How's the app coming? Sorry I wasn't much of a help when the project began but I got swamped by school projects. Anyway how's the project looking and is their anything I can do. Also have you checked out this Irunongamesplay 00:37, 17 June 2010 (UTC)

Autosig only happens on pages using Liquid Threads (LQT). On Wikinews LQT is only used on the comments pages of articles. Gopher65talk 02:14, 17 June 2010 (UTC)
LOL * 2. The app got put on the backburner because of.... complications. Basically I was supposed to get access to a mobile company to publish it, but that never happened. Now I need to re-eval. Anyways, we've found out that the API isn't terribly reliable for some unknown reason - so I need to fix that. Just happens that the last... month was super busy for me. I've got a little time now (hopefully not for long) so I'll see what I can do. As for C2DM, I saw that when they announced it, very cool. Right now the Wikinews app is running under the 1.5 SDK for maximum spread. If we get a lot of requests for something like this, then we'll re-eval moving up to 2.2 (which would severely limit the audience) and implementing it. --ShakataGaNai ^_^ 19:46, 17 June 2010 (UTC)
Does android allow you to make 2 versions of the same app for different android versions. IE - make a app that supports all devices and greys out what 1.5-2.1 can't support? Or could we do that manually?Irunongamesplay 23:25, 17 June 2010 (UTC)
We could do it manually. I think it will work like this: A) We get the app out B) We see how widely it gets used C) We see what platform versions people are running on D) See if the people actually care about the new functionality. -- If no one will want/use push notification (Sans like 1%), it doesn't make much sense. If they do, we'll just release a Wikinews & Wikinews+Push verisons --ShakataGaNai ^_^ 22:55, 17 June 2010 (UTC)
I love it when a plan comes together Irunongamesplay 23:25, 17 June 2010 (UTC)
<- Just for reference, If you were to put out a 2.2 app, someone on 2.1 or before simply wouldn't see it on the market. So it isn't "Disabled" or "greyed out" in anyway, it simply isn't there. --ShakataGaNai ^_^ 23:32, 17 June 2010 (UTC)
Jesus Christ, I love android more and more by the minute, all I need is to buy it now Irunongamesplay 01:25, 18 June 2010 (UTC)

Closure of oversight requests

Hi Shaka, could you tell me why you closed Skenmy and Craig's oversight requests as not successful? They had almost reached the 25 mark, and there doesn't appear to be any time limit on such requests AFAIK. IMHO, it would have been better to leave them open until 25 votes were mustered and/or there was enough opposition to tank it below 80%. Cheers, Tempodivalse [talk] 17:20, 21 June 2010 (UTC)

I agree with Tempo. In fact, the rules say that OS requests must stay open for at least two weeks, so it really wouldn't have hurt to keep them open for a few extra days. Furthermore, I am quite bothered by the fact that you closed your own oversight request; couldn't you have asked someone else to close it for you? Benny the mascot (talk) 17:26, 21 June 2010 (UTC)
Shaka didn't, he got Bawolff to do it. Blood Red Sandman (Talk) (Contribs) 17:27, 21 June 2010 (UTC)
Ah, my mistake. I didn't look through the history carefully enough. But I do think that the other requests should have been given more time. Benny the mascot (talk) 17:32, 21 June 2010 (UTC)
Would anyone object to my reverting and reopening them? Tempodivalse [talk] 17:37, 21 June 2010 (UTC)
I don't object. On a related note, did anyone even notice that ABF (talk · contribs) voted on Shakata's RfOS, even though that user has made only three non-mainspace edits? I find that closure to be quite premature, since we usually don't allow contributors to vote if they hadn't done much elsewhere in Wikinews. Benny the mascot (talk) 17:42, 21 June 2010 (UTC)
I don't care. But we got basically everyone who is even remotely reasonably active (and then some) to vote. We've had the elections open for 2 weeks... and Skenmy was what? 10 short? If you guys want to, leave them open for another 2 weeks... honestly I don't think that'll make any difference. I canvas'd the mailing list (twice), tweeted about it, set site notices (twice) and generally harassed people. So... yea. As for ABF... /me shrugs - maybe he saw the site notice or read twitter (I know at least a few votes came in that way). I've worked with him on commons. --ShakataGaNai ^_^ 20:48, 21 June 2010 (UTC)
