Rnt20~enwikinews
Would you like me to create a mirror of your Wikipedia userpage as your userpage? NGerda 19:28, Jun 4, 2005 (UTC)
That would be great -- thanks!
What is the process for writing a story about an event that has just happened, and then requesting it to be put on WikiNews? (I'll start reading the instructions now!) Rnt20 19:33, 4 Jun 2005 (UTC)
- You can submit it at Wikinews:Submit_a_story or post it directly this guide --Cspurrier 19:36, 4 Jun 2005 (UTC)
Welcome
editRnt20, welcome to Wikinews! I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are a few good links for newcomers:
Our key policies - if you read anything, read these!
- Wikinews:Neutral point of view - tell every side to a story in a fair and balanced way
- Wikinews:Cite sources - everything in a Wikinews article must be sourced
Here a few pointers to help you get to know Wikinews:
- Wikinews:Introduction - overview of the site
- Wikinews:Writing an article - how to write and publish a complete article
- Wikinews:Content guide - what's suitable for Wikinews
- Wikinews:Style guide - how articles should look before publishing
- Wikinews:Contents - the contents page.
There are always things to do on Wikinews:
- Existing articles need expanding and checking for spelling and mistakes
- The front page lead articles often need updating
- Developing stories need finishing and publishing
- Discussions need your input
- Audio Wikinews could always use more contributors
- And of course, stories need writing!
By the way, you can sign your name on Talk pages using four tildes (~~~~), which produces your name and the current date. If you have any questions, you can ask them at the water cooler or to anyone on the Welcommittee, or ask me on my Talk page. Again, welcome! --Cspurrier 19:28, 4 Jun 2005 (UTC)
Adding a story
editIt really depends on how breaking of a news story it is. In general, if you are preparing a story to be written in the future (such as election results), then it would go on Wikinews:Story preparation. Otherwise it would go on Template:Submitted stories. If it's really urgent, or you have already written a large chunk of it, you can add it directly to Template:Developing stories. Make sure that you put the appropriate Stage Tag at the bottom of the article, {{prepare}}, {{develop}}, {{publish}}; and enjoy writing with Wikinews! NGerda 19:39, Jun 4, 2005 (UTC)

editDo you want me to delete the frejus image? → CGorman (Talk) 20:53, 4 Jun 2005 (UTC)
If you want -- it's on commons, so I think it will still show on the news story. Rnt20 21:07, 4 Jun 2005 (UTC)
You've done some great research! NGerda 21:56, Jun 4, 2005 (UTC)

Old articles
editHi there. Just a note to remind you that we do not accept edits to articles that have been published for over 24 hours (see WN:ARCHIVE for more details). If you feel you have enough for a full story then please feel free to start a new article about it. Glad to see you back here and hope you stick around! --MarkTalk to me 17:17, 23 April 2010 (UTC)
Your account will be renamed
editHello,
The developer team at Wikimedia is making some changes to how accounts work, as part of our on-going efforts to provide new and better tools for our users like cross-wiki notifications. These changes will mean you have the same account name everywhere. This will let us give you new features that will help you edit and discuss better, and allow more flexible user permissions for tools. One of the side-effects of this is that user accounts will now have to be unique across all 900 Wikimedia wikis. See the announcement for more information.
Unfortunately, your account clashes with another account also called Rnt20. To make sure that both of you can use all Wikimedia projects in future, we have reserved the name Rnt20~enwikinews that only you will have. If you like it, you don't have to do anything. If you do not like it, you can pick out a different name.
Your account will still work as before, and you will be credited for all your edits made so far, but you will have to use the new account name when you log in.
Sorry for the inconvenience.
Yours,
Keegan Peterzell
