Comments pages

Hey Matt. Just a note that you don't need to create comments pages before users comment on them. A user can go to "Have an opinion on this story?" and click "Post It!" and post their comments, which creates the page. There shouldn't be a comments page if there are no comments. —FellowWiki Newsie 02:25, 12 October 2007 (UTC)

Hi. I had been creating an empty comments page along with each of my articles because I thought the "This page is for commentary on the news..." text that appears after someone leaves a comment is a lot nicer than the "This is for rants about the article" message that shows up initially (I think "rants" has a negative connotation for most people). I can change "rants" to "discussion on the subject of the article". And I can also change the wording of the whole thing. Does that sound good? —FellowWiki Newsie 02:58, 12 October 2007 (UTC)

It sounds good to me, and I'd be surprised if anyone else objects. I think the text in the two boxes should be the same, and like I said I prefer the "commentary" text. Thanks for your help. Matt Streeter 12:24, 12 October 2007 (UTC)

Yeah I'm a bit of a negative person . When I first created that template, the whole thing wasn't universally thought of as a good idea, so i didn't want to sound overly encouraging. Now that it is established, I think the nicer wording is much better. Bawolff ☺☻ 01:47, 21 October 2007 (UTC)

I thought your (SVTCobra's) changes improved the article. One question, though: why did you delete the inline link to Bush's speech? I put the link there because I thought it made it more likely that people would read the original speech. Do you not like inline links as a general rule? If so, why not? It may be a bit difficult to gleen the instructions from this section of the Style Guide, but all links to outside sources (I think this goes for Wikipedia, too) should be listed at the bottom as either "Sources", "References" or "External links". The reason is that we cannot control the content of outside links and thus they shouldn't be part of the text, but rather listed below with a description so that the reader knows what they are dealing with. Duplicate article

FEMA apologizes for staged news briefing is a duplicate of FEMA employees pose as fake reporters during press conference.
