Welcome

Majorly, welcome to Wikinews! I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are a few good links for newcomers:

Our key policies - if you read anything, read these!

Here a few pointers to help you get to know Wikinews:

There are always things to do on Wikinews:

By the way, you can sign your name on Talk pages using four tildes (~~~~), which produces your name and the current date. If you have any questions, you can ask them at the water cooler or to anyone on the Welcommittee, or ask me on my Talk page. Again, welcome!FellowWikiNewsie 17:45, 1 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Care to contribute?

edit

We'd really appreciate your presence here more - care to contribute to some article writing? If so I'd love to collaborate/help you out if need be. Cheers, Cirt (talk) 22:48, 21 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Yes I intend to at some point... Brian inspired me pretty much. Majorly (talk) 23:03, 21 July 2008 (UTC)Reply
Keep me posted, would love to be of assistance. Cirt (talk) 02:22, 22 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Keep at it

edit

As you commented at some point in IRC, it is easier to write articles here than Wikipedia. Since you seem to be the only new recruit (so far) resulting from Wikimania I personally want to see you stay involved. --Brian McNeil / talk 21:52, 24 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

It's also a lot more rewarding. I shall of course be staying, hopefully for the long term. Majorly (talk) 22:15, 24 July 2008 (UTC)Reply
Good. --Brian McNeil / talk 22:17, 24 July 2008 (UTC)Reply
Do you have any tips for improving my articles so far? Majorly (talk) 22:22, 24 July 2008 (UTC)Reply
Categories. Always look for a main country category and a topical category - eg Culture and entertainment. Titles, remember the audience is international so not everyone knows who Cameron is, explicitly saying the article refers to the UK is advisable. Wikilinks. Almost all countries have local wikilinks. --Brian McNeil / talk 22:42, 24 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Busy elsewhere? We understand, but this is a notice of privilege expiry!

Note! Your privileges on English Wikinews have been reduced.

Under the Privilege expiry policy (enacted October 13, 2012) the rights held by your user account have been reduced due to inactivity, or lack of privilege use. You can view your user rights log here.
We all understand that real-life commitments can severely curtail the level of commitment you can give to Wikinews; the privilege reduction is in no way intended as a reflection on your past work, or to imply you are unwelcome. The aim in curtailing privileges is to address security risks, and concern that a long period of inactivity means you may not be up-to-date with current policy and practices.
