Welcome
editLaura0141, welcome to Wikinews! I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are a few good links for newcomers:
Our key policies - if you read anything, read these!
- Wikinews:Neutral point of view - tell every side to a story in a fair and balanced way
- Wikinews:Cite sources - everything in a Wikinews article must be sourced
Here a few pointers to help you get to know Wikinews:
- Wikinews:Introduction - overview of the site
- Wikinews:Writing an article - how to write and publish a complete article
- Wikinews:Content guide - what's suitable for Wikinews
- Wikinews:Style guide - how articles should look before publishing
- Wikinews:Contents - the contents page.
There are always things to do on Wikinews:
- Existing articles need expanding and checking for spelling and mistakes
- The front page lead articles often need updating
- Developing stories need finishing and publishing
- Discussions need your input
- Audio Wikinews could always use more contributors
- And of course, stories need writing!
By the way, you can sign your name on Talk pages using four tildes (~~~~), which produces your name and the current date. If you have any questions, you can ask them at the water cooler or to anyone on the Welcommittee, or ask me on my Talk page. Again, welcome! → CGorman (Talk) 21:37, 14 May 2005 (UTC)
Just wanted to take a moment to say thanks...
editI have noticed your many excellent copyediting revisions, and they are much appreciated! You help us communicate better, and look good. Thank you very much! - Amgine/talk 20:26, 18 May 2005 (UTC)
Thank you very, very much! I'm really enjoying the site but have been waiting for the message saying 'You've done too much/done it wrong. Please go away.' So your message has really made my night. You're not to know but this week has been monumentally horrible but I now have a little dose of the warm'n'fuzzies! Now - I wonder if I can remember how to sign my name? Laura Thomson 20:48, 18 May 2005 (UTC)
- <grin> You're doing great! I can't help with your horrible week; mine has been kind of rough too. But I can certainly point out how your edits have helped here! Don't jump in more than feel comfortable with, but we appreciate everything you help out on. - Amgine/talk 18:20, 19 May 2005 (UTC)
Euro
editThe plural of euro is (believe it or not) euro not euros. → CGorman (Talk) 14:40, 21 May 2005 (UTC)
- Thanks - can you tell the UK hasn't joined the Euro yet? Laura Thomson 16:17, 21 May 2005 (UTC)
- No the UK has'nt joined yet - they feel too patriotic about the Pound Sterling! The real reason is that the euro does not meet Gordon Brown's, Chancellor of the Exchequer (i.e. head of finance for the government), Five economic tests - convergence, flexibility, long-term business implications, impact on financial services, and stability. Thus far only number four meets his criteria. Its a real pity, when im in Britian or Northern Ireland the money looks so old fashioned compared to our (im Irish) shiny new euro notes and coins, its also a pain having to change money when going to Britian (thankfully many places in Northern Ireland accept euro). Any questions regarding Wikinews, just ask; i'd like to also say (Amgine beat me to this) that your editing is really appreciated - I write to fast and make loads of mistakes, so I really appreciate people following up on them. → CGorman (Talk) 16:30, 22 May 2005 (UTC)
